I really enjoyed this fake dating romance! While I wish the characters were older, it was fun being back in this world that Monica has created.
What an absolute joy to read this novel. This is the story of Scarlett and Tate. This will take you on an emotional journey, from fake dating, to second chances, to resurrecting your career, to a love that is so whole and pure that you can barely breathe.
Initially Scarlett appears to be the spoiled heiress, but she grows along the way, she learns to trust, to believe and best of all to love. Tate is a former bad boy of a very famous band, but they were too young, and it was all too much and he destroyed his life and career. Tate feels that connection with Scarlett immediately, that invisible pull that is quite unbelievable but magical at the same time.
I love how Tate is so patient and gentle and loving, allowing Scarlett to believe in herself, to see herself as Tate sees her, with no bitterness but only love.
Brilliant novel Monica, thank you for writing it.
I have read The Lancaster Prep series by Monica Murphy so when I saw this it was a must read and it did not disappoint.
Scarlet is a Lancaster heiress celebrating her 18th birthday and Tate is a former boy band member doing gigs to pay the bills.
Suddenly the paparazzi are watching the romance between the two.
Worth a read for any Monica Murphy fans
Disclaimer: I was gifted an advanced reader's copy of this book via netgalley, and I'm leaving a review voluntarily. All opinions are my own.
Prior to this I had heard of Monica Murphy, but never actually read any of her work. Just knew she was considered a sought after booktok author and was happy to be approved for a book by a booktok author. It's a cute book, if a bit cliche at times. If you like fake dating as a trope, you may enjoy this. Bad boy in a band? You might enjoy it. Also has the whole "angsty slow burn with HEA" vibe to it, which I can appreciate.
I liked the story, but found the whole "snobby rich girl with no real problems except that everyone views her as a stuck up heiress" thing a bit old. Her entire personality is, at times, "I'm obsessed with the guy that strung me along," and "I have no experiences with guys so idk what I'm doing." I like to read about characters I can relate to, and I really couldn't relate to either of them. That doesn't take away from the story--I enjoyed the book and devoured it in 2 days. I also felt like it took AGES for them to acknowledge their feelings for each other, when it was obvious. That's not a complaint, I like slow burns. I read a lot of band fanfics when I was in high school, and this book kind of reminded me of that, though this was a lot better written than those were. I was in high school when After by Anna Todd took off, and I'm thankful this isn't like that at all. It's refreshing that I don't have to read about toxic asshole boyfriends, which pretty much sums up my feelings on After and a lot of booktok books lol. I'll probably continue to read stuff by Murphy at some point.
All of her books are a nice slow burn literally I feel like all of them, which is fine but I know that isn't everyone's cup of tea. I had a real struggle connecting with the characters though for some reason in this book. This one is a is a captivating new adult romance that revolves around the lives of Scarlett Lancaster, a young heiress, and Tate Ramsey, a former pop star and lead singer of the band Five Car Pileup. Monica Murphy crafts a swoon-worthy and engaging romance, skillfully blending the world of stardom with the vulnerability of personal growth. The characters' chemistry and emotional depth make the readers root for them to find happiness and overcome their pasts. Throughout "Lonely For You Only," Murphy masterfully weaves themes of love, forgiveness, and self-discovery, making it an enjoyable read for fans of contemporary romance with a touch of music industry glamour.
This was a sweet romance read with a solid plot and some fun tropes. It's a billionaire heir romance (she's the rich girl) and he's a has been boy band singer who she had a crush on as a kid, hired to sing at her birthday. Fake dating ensues, they fall in love for real...its adorable and spicy near the end. I liked it and would recommend this book to anyone looking for an easy romance read that's very modern and has a Hollywood-ish backdrop. Characters are 18 and 21.
Monica Murphy ! Not many authors make me blush but I am bound to every time I pick up one of her books. She is a master of spice and finds away to keep each read fresh and exciting. Love Love Love this one.
The hype over this author has been around for a while, so when I saw this book I was eager to dive in. It had to be great, right? And a rock star romance, one of my favorite tropes, well, I couldn’t resist.
Unfortunately, this has to be one of the most boring romance books I’ve ever read. So much “blah, blah, blah" that I had to wade through an ocean of extraneous words to get to responding dialog and the meat of the story.
But I powered through, only to realize I was at seventy percent and nothing had happened. The fake romance was established and Scarlett went to LA with Tate. It took three quarters of the book to get to this point! It's a shame, because the characters were likeable and this had so much potential. Maybe this acclaimed author's indie published work is better, but save your pennies on this one.
2,75 stars
I've been struggling with this book for a month now and I'm just going to put it down. I'm sorry because I really like this author and I've read several of her books so far. I don't like this one, I can't relate to the story and the main female character is boring to me. I've read half the book and that's it, I'm not going to bother anymore. I apologize once again and thank you for this opportunity even though I may have disappointed you.
I like my time reading this story. It was a nice romance, when they fake date and come to love each other I liked it a lot. Seeing him singing at her birthday party, someone she had a crush on. It was crazy how she found herself where anyone as a fan will like to be.
Well, I must say that I give this book a chance, but I wasn't feeling it.
I love Monica Murphy's books. And all are little similar. So I knew what to expect, but Scarlet was just too much for me.
And when you do not stand a Main character, you just can not enjoy the book.
I would pass on this one.
It is 2.5 stars for me
Fake Dating a Rockstar...sign me up. I couldn't put this one down. It had duo POV which I love because we get both character feelings and thoughts and a fake dating romance, reading how they fall in love, I could just melt. It was just the cutest thing ever that she was a fan of him when he was in a boy band. I enjoyed this read.
This is the first book I have read by this author and I really enjoyed it. I love a good enemies to lovers romance and this did not disappoint. Scarlett and Tate are such a great pairing. I love a redemption arc as well as a journey of discovering what you want and not what others want for you. I have to. admit I want more I still have questions about lingering plot lines but I was pleased with the overall reading experience.
Thank you for this ARC. Loved this book but I love everything by this author. I will definitely recommend to all my followers and friends.
I love Monica Murphy's Dating Series, so Iwas really excited to get this book. I am sorry to say it was a DNF for me. Scarlett as a heroine just didn't do it for me, I think the character was just too young and immature for me. Ms. Murphy's writing is good, I just don't like the heroine, so it is a 3 star for me. Thank you NetGalley for an advanced copy for this honest review.
I enjoyed the rockstar romance aspect along with the fake dating trope because I love a good faking dating trope but also the fact that they were both in the public limelight made me love it more because I always enjoy it when there are more chances of them being found out because I am one for loving some drama.
This was a first for me from this author and it won’t be the last! I really enjoyed this romance story! I liked watching both MC’s grow, learn, and fall in love! These two don’t start off on the right foot but once everyone is liking them as a couple, they fake a relationship! Scarlett and Tate really had great chemistry(in and out of the bedroom). They were perfectly matched! I can’t wait to read more in this series!
Scarlett is an heiress who feels like she is living in her parent's shadow. Tate is a former boy band member who hasn't performed in years, after giving into the pressures of being a celebrity. Scarlett's parents ask Tate to perform at her eighteenth birthday party, thinking she would be over the moon. Instead, it starts a whirlwind chain of events.
I found this really charming. The characters aren't going through a huge transformation. There's not really an even exchange of what's being received, and part of me doesn't mind that. Scarlett is an heiress with more money than she'll ever know what to do with, so it's not surprising that she doesn't fight for a more even exchange. My biggest issue with Scarlett is that she doesn't like being known as an heiress but doesn't have much more depth to her than the typical heiress.
I could do a whole in-depth analysis on this, and I understand the criticism about the lack of depth to the characters, but there's a nostalgia to the story. The idea that you grow up, crushing on a boy band, and to have the chance to date them. It's not a perfect book, but it was a cute read that was welcomed after some of the more intense books I've been finishing.
I love the Midnight Dynasty book world, and this Lancaster book was sweet and tame compared to most - and I don’t mean that in a bad way! Scarlett is young and innocent, and the book was innocent as well. They were a sweet young couple, learning and growing together and it was an enjoyable read.
My friends are obsessed with Monica Murphy so I was excited to pick up this book but omg read the room. I get that there are people with obscene wealth out there but I couldn't stand Scarlett. "My life is so hard because my dad is a trillionare and everyone thinks I'm only a pretty rich girl." I was so over her moaning and complaining especially because when I finish reading I go back to the real world where I work with low-income people who can't afford food or rent or heat and I read to get away from everything but I just couldn't stand Scarletts whining about being the daughter of a trillionare.
