I listened to this as an audio book in the car and I have to say I liked the audio in terms of the narrators and the adaptation.
It’s the storyline where I struggled and full disclosure rock star romances seem to be a bit hit and miss for me, so maybe that was it.
I struggled with Scarlett’s depiction -‘a couldn’t connect with that poor little rich girl story, wanting to go out on her own and instead latching on to the jaded (?) former rockstar. I love a fake dating trope but I struggled with these characters, even trying to imagine Harry Styles or Joe Jonas wannabes. Wasn’t happening.
The plot was pretty slow moving as Scarlett went along for the ride, heading to LA very quickly with Tate after being babied by her parents for so long. Nope, not buying it.
And then falling in love - there was nothing that could convince me this was a HEA. I just didn’t buy it and needed more.
"You drive me fucking crazy. Your laugh. Your smile. The way you look at me." I tilt my head back, my eyelids falling closed as he kisses and licks his way down my neck. "H-how do I look at you?" "Like you believe in me."
MY FREAKING HEART! this was such a cute story! The girl who wanted to been seen, and the boy who just wanted a second chance. I really enjoyed this one!
Scarlett Lancaster is the youngest of the Lancaster's siblings. When her father hires pop star Tate Ramsey to perform at eighteenth birthday. However, she's disappointed it's not Harry Styles. Tate, a reformed party boy, wows the audience and shares a surprising kiss with Scarlett. Tate is more outgoing, while Scarlett is more reserved. He brings out a more feisty side of her, while she seems to ground him. Tate’s life as a teen heartthrob had spiraled out of control, but he has successfully been through rehab and has been clean for three years. Now at twenty-one, he is ready for a comeback. After a steamy kiss at the party is caught by others and goes viral, Scarlett and Tate decide to start a fake relationship to both get what they want out of life.
Tate and Scarlett story was another great one by Monica.
I was hooked from the first few chapters and didn't put it down till I was finished.
The way they ended up together was definitely a fun start.
I hated the way Ian acted. He only wanted the attention Scarlett gave him and not her. He was such a spinless guy it proves just what kind of a man he is when he lets his mother control him like that.
I absolutely loved Scarlett's parents, her dad especially. They were great parents to her and believed in her more than she believed in herself.
Her friend Rachel was great, she needed a friend like her to push her out of her comfort zones.
Tate and Scarlett became each other's muses and their story was another great love story.
This story was perfection! Tate and Scar’s story definitely had me wanting to yell and hug them at the same time. I couldn’t put this book down.
Lonely For You Only is perfect for anybody who have once loved a boy band that ultimately broke up leaving all who loved them in some form, heart broken and every girl (or boy!), but still pining for that one band member they would have done anything to date. Now, some may say that this is Harry Styles fan fiction, but for this instance, I'll say this for myself would be more along the lines of N'Sync fan fiction, because who didn't want to date and or marry one of their members and who wasn't broken when they broke up?
What Scarlett Lancaster's dad hires a famous pop star to perform at her 18th birthday party, the last one she expected was has been Tate Ramsey who used to be a member of her favorite band, Five Care Pileup. When the two share an unexpected kiss that makes headlines across the world, they decide that fake dating will do both of them good, by earning Scarlett social media followers and Tate a bigger and better reputation, re-jump starting his career. Nothing good comes from fake dating and they both start catching feelings for one another. Can they put their business deal behind them and truly be together or will something come between them?
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the free copy of Lonely For You Only by Monica Murphy in exchange for my honest review.
I absolutely love when books have multiple POV chapters, especially when it helps you resonate with the characters. However this book wasn't as engaging as I would have liked it to be, despite a great premise.
Fake dating, rich X harry styles kind of vibe.
Unfortunately I didn’t enjoy this as much as I have liked other Monica Murphy books.
I LOVE Monica Murphy's books and this was no different. This is the first Lancaster Prep book I read of hers and I now am itching to go back and read the others. The story was addicting, I loved the characters, and the tropes are unbeatable!
Young heiress Scarlett Lancaster is ecstatic when her father tells her he's hired a famous pop star and former boy band member to play at her 18th birthday. But that delight becomes utter disappointment when it turns out the pop star in question was Tate Ramsey, former lead singer of the band Five Car Pileup- who hasn't been popular in years..
Tate, after years of alcohol, and drug-fueled partying, is sober and ready for a comeback. He is in top form at Scarlett's party and blows the audience away with his performance- though Scarlett herself is less than impressed. But when they talk after he leaves the stage, a video of their encounter goes viral and they are thrown into a fake relationship in an attempt to revive broken reputations.
Read if you like:
- fake dating
- opposites attract
- forced proximity
- celebrity romance
- enemies to lovers
Thank you so much NetGalley for the early copy of this book!
“𝑰 𝒘𝒂𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒏. 𝑰 𝒘𝒂𝒏𝒕 𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒏 𝒎𝒐𝒓𝒆 𝒏𝒐𝒘”
This coming-of-age romance was a fast-paced and light read. Tate Ramsey is a former boy band musician and the teenage celebrity crush of Lancaster heiress, Scarlett Lancaster. Lead singer of Five Car Pileup, Tate blew up his career with alcohol and drugs but now he gets his second chance at fame - only if he can get Scarlett to be his fake girlfriend.
On Scarlett’s 18th birthday, Tate is the surprise guest singer (not Harry Styles, unfortunately). To save Tate from the paparazzi, they share a kiss and the photo goes viral overnight. Tate gets the call to fame from his old label and is offered a deal in LA. However there is a string attached, Tate must convince Scarlett to come with him to LA and to convince the world of their new fake relationship.
Lonely For You Only was a pretty enjoyable read that nailed the fake relationship trope. I felt that it was a very typical romance book that was quite a light read for me. I loved the former boy band member redemption arc of Tate and I would have liked more of Scarlett creating her legacy as it was mentioned quite a few times how she doesn’t want to be known as the “heiress”.
This was a 3-star book because I felt it was too rushed and the characters were a little unlikable. Throughout the book, I struggled to like Scarlett and Tate because their personalities were lacking and several times the characters gave me the ick (Tate’s thoughts were too sexual early on for my liking as it felt out of place). I was disappointed because I loved the Lancaster Prep series, there was a lot of potential with the former boy band lead singer and heiress storyline but it all fell a bit short for me. However, around 80% through the book, it started to pick up and I was enjoying Scarlett and Tate’s not-so-fake relationship and they were quite cute together. There is minimal spice that starts around 90% through the book.
Overall this was quite a cute and short read however it does take some time to get into. Lonely For You Only was a typical romance for me and had minimal spice and tension.
Fake dating
Boy obsessed
Bad boy/good girl
Thank you Valentine PR for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!
This is a good book. The two main characters are Scarlett and Tate. There is an instant attraction. Scarlett’s dad hires Tate to come to her eighteenth birthday party and sing. Tate used to be Scarlett’s thirteenth crush singer he did so good at the party, people were shooting video of it. Scarlett kissed him, there was video of that too. Tate’s recording company said in the contract that he had to bring Scarlett to the recording of his new album, if he didn’t there would be no contract. He convinces her to be his fake girlfriend but it changes to be the girlfriend and they both find love.
Great thriller that keeps the reader on their toes the whole way through the book. Loved the whole thing.
Tate Ramsey is a "washed up" boy band singer who ruined his reputation by drinking, drugs, and women instead of focusing on his ride to fame. His talent was wasted. Scarlett Lancaster is a rich socialite who is having her big 18th birthday bash all in an attempt to catch the eye of her life long crush who never notices her. Tate has practiced and rehearsed harder than he ever has in his life becuase Mr. Lancaster has hired him to play for Scarlett's birthday bash and paid him a ton of money to do it. He used to be Scarlett's teen crush and Mr. Lancaster wants to make his daughter happy. Little does he know that she has no interest in Tate, she only wants attention from Ian...except this is a night for scandal. And it could launch Tate back into stardom if only Scarlett will give him another look.
Tate was great, his thoughts… I really loved him. To be 21 again with a second chance in life to make your dreams come true, wow nice thought. They are such a nice couple, I liked Tate, he was real and knew that this was maybe his last chance, Scarlet was kind of insecure , like she always wanted reassurance that she was enough, but she was so young, so I guess it is an excuse enough. It was definitely a slow burner, but the way they started to trust each other and became a thing was very romantic. All in all a great edition in the Lancaster universe.
I was lucky enough to get approved for this book last year from NetGalley, and knowing Monica Murphy and her incredible writing I knew it was going to be great! Once I started reading this one, I couldn’t put it down!
It brought me back to my teenage days, growing up in love with a heart throb, I am not ashamed to say I had Bieber Fever. Fortunately for Scarlett, she was lucky enough to meet her celebrity crush years later, though it takes a moment to realize just how “lucky” she is.
The banter between Scar and Tate gave me butterflies, their flirty yet constant annoyance with each other was so realistic that it was so easy to read and relate too. And the spicy moments were as equally sweet as they were spicy and had me hooked the whole way.
This is quite insta I believe the time line is 2 weeks possibly 3. But it's adorable and sweet and cute. This book has a lot of character growth 4 kisses and then they are bunnies for the last 10% . The book tackles addiction, abandonment, feelings of inadequacy and character growth to individuality. It was adorable and I'm glad I read it
Super cute young love romcom that follows a has-been pop star on his way to new found stardom with his heiress gf. Everything seems right in the world, but is it?
They each need eachother to break away in their own in the world. Will it last? Will they find a HEA on their own or will their fake relationship turn real and rock both of their worlds?
4 stars.
1/5 for spice.
Quick and easy read. I’m in love with Scarlett Lancaster and I hope we get more from her in the future.
Tropes: enemies to lovers, fake dating, forced proximity
We are back in the Lancaster Universe. This time we are getting the story of Scarlett Lancaster, and she is turning 18. In typical Lancaster fashion she is going to get a birthday bash for the ages.
Tate Ramsey is the former singer of a band who is hired to play at Scarlett’s birthday. As one kiss between the two leads to tons of press and popularity, they decide to play fake relationship, it is all fake until real feelings get involved.
If you are looking for a cute, coming of age romance then you need to check out Lonely for You Only by Monica Murphy and if you want to know the other Lancaster members you need to check out Monica’s other books.
I loved this book! If you're into new adult stories, you'll definitely enjoy it. The characters are all about the angsty journey of figuring out adulthood. Scarlett and Tate's interactions are playful, and even though there's a spark, they take their time getting to know each other. It's a slow burn, but the off-page moments make it all worthwhile. I'll be thinking about these characters for awhile!
3.75stars-LONELY FOR YOU ONLY by Monica Murphy is a contemporary, new adult, slight rock star romance story line set in the author’s Lancaster Prep world. This is twenty-year old, former teen singing idol Tate Ramsey, and eighteen year old heiress Scarlett Lancaster’s story line. LONELY FOR YOU ONLY can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous instalments is revealed where necessary.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Tate and Scarlett) LONELY FOR YOU ONLY follows the fake relationship between our story line couple. A scandal destroyed Tate Ramsey’s career but a call for a personal appearance for a ‘spoiled little rich girl’s’ eighteenth birthday part was about to set Tate’s career on a new path. Scarlett Lancaster knew her parents would go above and beyond for her eighteenth birthday but she never expected her father to hire the heart throb teen idol she fell for at thirteen years of age. Enter Tate Ramsey. A late night kiss would go viral throughout social media, and Tate’s popularity and music career would once again rise but a new contract and new promoter came with a caveat-a fake relationship with Scarlett to keep the fans wondering. What ensues is the fake but building romance and relationship between our story line couple, and the fall-out when their secret is exposed.
The world building focuses on the growing relationship between our story line couple, and the potential for heart break. Scarlett has become Tate Ramsey’s muse, and with the possibility of their secret becoming public knowledge, Tate struggles with the what-ifs and whys.
The relationship between Tate and Scarlett begins as a birthday party entertainment in which Scarlett battles between head and heart with Tate’s scandal ridden career and the ‘boy’ she once loved from afar. Tate Ramsey didn’t need another scandal but a boost to his all but destroyed career came with the bonus of Scarlett Lancaster, a naïve young woman whose life is about to explode. Falling for one another was easy but the truth may destroy their growing love. The $ex scenes are limited but passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
We are introduced to Scarlett’s parents Gloria and Fitzgerald Lancaster; her best friend Rachel, several promoters and agents, as well as Scarlett’s crush Ian Baldwin.
LONELY FOR YOU ONLY is a coming of age story of secrets and lies, betrayal and jealousy, family and relationships, acceptance and love. The slow building premise is entertaining but the conflict is limited and quickly remedied. The romance is tender and subtle; the characters are sweet but somewhat immature-the overall feel of the story felt more YA (young adult) than eighteen to twenty year olds.
