This is an interesting and well written book which would be a good introduction for a philosophy beginner who needs guidance to find a path through the philosophy jungle. I’m not sure about the religious angle, as for me it diverts from the idea of philosophy and factual interrogations.

There are a couple of pages on scores of philosophers with a resume of their ideas, their life, and their works. The entries are very short with little detail. They are almost a teaser but at least there is enough to point a reader towards philosophers they might find interesting or might choose to follow up on.

The idea is a good one but I would have preferred a little more on each philosopher with links and ways to follow up on anyone where an entry has sparked some interest. I may use it as a random dip exercise to see if I find anything new.

I was given a copy of this book by NetGalley
