I dreaded the day where I wouldn't like an ARC read, and it has unfortunately came. I did not enjoy this book at all. The plot has real potential but for me the story was very choppy and poorly written. I had to force myself to finish this book - which was a real struggle. I'd find myself sighing and getting bored really easily.. There was a lot of repetition in this book that was unnecessary. The characters were flat and unrealistic, and I did not connect with any of them. In addition, there is some trauma in this book, that would usually stir up some emotions but I felt nothing.
I've seen some very good reviews for "Ghost Tamer", but unfortunately this book was not for me.
This book was enjoyable because it’s unlike anything I’ve read before, which is hard to find these days. I liked that there was humor, some sadness, with some paranormal thrown in. There were a few unexpected twists which kept me hooked. I did feel like the book was a little slow in the middle because the main character experienced the same conflict a few times. Overall, this was a good debut novel by the author. 3.5 rounded up for goodreads.
A really good read. Grab your tissues your gonna need the a little. But there is a great mix of humor along with some sadness and a whole lot of awesomeness.
Great characters and a great storyline make this book entertaining and hard to put down. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This is a very different ghost story from books I have read before. Really enjoyed the book, and I loved the way the story flowed, it kept me hooked throughout – wanting to find out what was next to be revealed. The characters were well written and there was real depth to Raely’s character.
The tragic loss of her best friend and the realisation that she had been loved and supported all her life by someone she never knew, helped her to grow in confidence and self-belief. She tackled some nasty characters but was able to do the right thing for herself. The ending was well done.
I would have liked to have some more background on Lovonia – her story would make an interesting read.
Ghost Tamer is a thrilling ghost story and an impressive debut novel! The characters (especially Raely) are lovable and had me rooting for them. The story is engaging and had no trouble keeping my attention. Since it’s fast paced, I never felt like I was waiting for something interesting to happen. I also loved how the author seamlessly mixes multiple genres. I didn’t feel like this was just a book about ghosts. It gets deep and had me contemplating what I believe happens when we die and the importance of making peace with the past.
I recommend this to anyone who is looking for a stimulating paranormal mystery that instantly sucks you in and makes you both laugh and cry! Thank you to CamCat Books for providing an eARC via NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are my own.
I really enjoyed this book. I enjoyed how relatable Raley, the main character, is. The plot and how she grows through out the book made me laugh and cry. I hope there will be a sequel!
I wasn't sure what I would think about this book as I don't tend to read ghost stories, but it sounded interesting so wanted to give it a go.
I read it pretty quickly, although the amount of darkness and trauma was a little overpowering at times.
I love a good ghost story. This title conjured up expectations of paranormal thrills and the book delivered.
The opening scenes of random violence and tragic loss were surprisingly engaging. I wanted to know what happened next and was invested in the lead characters recovery both physically and emotionally. I was even more invested when our heroine started seeing ghosts and talking to them.
Raely was a complex and interesting character that kept me turning the page as I hoped things would change for the better. I wanted her to heal from all of her emotional and physical damage. Hoping along the way she would find a stronger person within herself and regain a joyful life.
I was frustrated at how often she was abused. Even some of the people trying to help her kept her in the dark or left her on her own. It was hard to read repetitive scenes of violence, misunderstandings and missteps. I also felt some of the relationships were not build fully before being revealed as friend, family, romance or abuser.
I hoped for something like Stacia Kane's Downside Ghost series or Charlaine Harris' Harper Connelly books. Perhaps if more time was spent on relationship building and the action had been more varied I would have given it a higher rating. There may be more to come as there was definitely a set up for a sequel. Slow start but number two might be better.
This book was unexpected. I read the synopsis, but there were no reviews yet, so I wasn't sure what to expect.
What a treat this book was. It was a little bit of horror, a littler suspense, a little drama, a little bit of everything..
I really fell for "Casper" -the ghost who has been following her around. I loved how his story ended..
I really liked the character development. I also thought the descriptions were great - I could really picture the people and the places and could see the movie in my head.
Is this great literature? No. Is it a fun, enjoyable, engrossing read? Yes!
THis is 3.5 stars (above average) rounded up to 4.
Thank you to #netgalley, the author #meredithrlyons and the publisher for the ARC. This did not impact my review.
