Great read by Robert Ford as always. I enjoy a good haunting and this one definitely hit the mark. Very spooky and goosebumps-inducing!

This has got to be one of the wildest stories of a haunting that I’ve read in a long while. I was not expecting the twists this took and the darkness that ensued.

This is 4.75/5 stars for me.

I love the characters, Abby and Hayden are believable, and I enjoyed the pacing of the story. This is a super natural horror that will keep you on edge. There are moments that I laughed and others where there are chills down my spine. I love that the story kept me on the edge of my seat but still kept me engaged with the different events.

Typically I am a romance reader and this was such a step out of my comfort zone and I am glad I did read this. I feel like you still get some elements of the romance with Abby and Hayden, but learning about the children's asylum, and the actual horror elements was phenomenal.

My only complaint is that some of the characters are very religious. There were a couple times early in the book where I thought I was going to have to put it down because as someone who was not religious I was off put by it. I was glad that the trend didn't continue, but still felt worthy of warning folks.

I went into The Dead Pennies expecting horror, and it definitely delivered. The premise is very interesting and has all the creepy vibes I was hoping for. Who doesn’t enjoy when people unknowingly move into a haunted building? The plot was a bit choppy but still fast paced. I found the characters to be lacking, I didn’t really find myself rooting for them or caring what happened to them. All of that said the writing was good, the story was gripping, and I would still recommend this book to someone who is looking for a quick paranormal horror to read. I would advise checking the TW’s before reading as there are violent scenes involving children.

This book was generally horrifying. It was split into 3 books, but each had the same characters, just with different highlighted sections of the story. The plot was fine but it seemed a little disjointed at times. The main twist didn’t seem to hit as much for me. It seemed a bit rushed and therefore, was less impactful to me. Check trigger warnings before reading this one. Reading the descriptions from the hospital was really sad and horrifying. The actual elements of horror were a little harder to believe. I didn’t get the true scare I was looking for with this one. The ending was okay too. Not my favorite horror book.

I received an ARC of this book from Netgalley. This is the fifth book I've read by Robert Ford and unfortunately I did not enjoy it as much the other books of his that I have read. Ford is an excellent writer and I'm having a hard time pinpointing specific things about this book that didn't work for me. It is well written and took a couple of unexpected turns which I enjoyed, but I just didn't find it as gripping as his other novels. This book was good, but I don't think I'll be revisiting it in the future. I will however, continue to read everything Ford writes that I can get my hands on.

Repurposing an old children's sanatorium into an upscale housing development. Surely can't be a good idea...

It's been quite some time since I last sat down and enjoyed a good psychological horror story.

This tale of depravity, and abuse really does tug on all the right strings that it should. To move it into that group that is occupied by King, Koontz et al.

The plot is strong, as are the characters. And there is more than enough content to keep you scared from the first page to the last.

This really is one hell of a rollercoaster ride. And the finale doesn't disappoint from the build up that has been put into place by the author.

This is a straight up supernatural novel that builds the tension to a breaking point and then breaks it with a horrifying sledgehammer of scares and dread.

A luxury apartment for free seems like a dream come true for Abby. After leaving her meth head boyfriend and accepting an invite with her best friend from school, she finds peace and a fresh start from her past.

But things will quickly go from good to bad to much worse as the secrets of the buildings past cannot contain the souls of those who suffered within its walls.

Things start out innocently enough. Strange noises, shadows from the corner of the eye, a chill down the spine, and a creepy old man yelling cryptic things.

But all these things need answers as to why they're happening and when we finally come to those answers, they're far more evil than what you could imagine.

Not everyone is who they seem to be and there's a revelation near the end of this book that will rattle you as it leads up to the bloody brutal ending and the aftermath of these events.

This book is effectively creepy, deals with disturbing and violent situations, and lets loose vengeance fueled spirits hell bent on destruction. While it doesn't bring anything new to the table, it doesn't have to really because if you're looking for a good ol' fashioned scary ghost story, I highly recommend this book.

After leaving an abusive relationship, Abby visits an old friend on her way to her mother’s in Florida.

This was a very creepy horror novel. Not exactly what I expected from the description, but I enjoyed it.

REVIEW COPY

This is a spoiler free zone. Please go into this book blind, as I did. Don't read so much as a description of this novel. Everything you need to know is in the author's name. Robert Ford is one of the best authors writing today and proves it in DEAD PENNIES.

I will tell you that this is Abby's story. At least part of it is. She's very likeable and relatable as well as a strong young woman.

It was very difficult for me to not start rereading DEAD PENNIES again today, but I'll force myself to wait until the book comes to buy a copy along with all y'all in support of Robert Ford. This is easily in my top books of 2023. So twisted and each sentence flows naturally from the last.

Five shooting stars!

This was a great read! The author’s writing style was perfect. The story had more twists and turns that left me with no clue how it was going to end. But everything came together at the end and I was really pleased with the ending.
