A sneak peek of upcoming cozy and historical mysteries. I wish more publishers would do this.. I always look forward to each Cozy Case Files.
great to have a sample of so many good titles. Especially enjoyed the ones by Ellie Alexander, Diane Kelly and Elizabeth Penney, I have added these titles to my wishlist on Amazon to purchase. Thanks
These samplers are always a fun teaser to the books I love in the Cozy World. Thank you for offering them yo us readers.
Great way to get a “ Taste” of new authors. I have only read Diane Kelly’s books but will seek out some of the others.
I received a complimentary ARC of this book from NetGalley on behalf of the Publisher and was under no obligation to post a favorable review.
I love cozy mysteries since I've discovered them and have started reading them. This is the perfect book for me with a lovely opportunity to read a few chapters of several different cozy mysteries publishing this Fall and see if I like them. I've discovered new to me authors and have tried out a few books by author's I am familiar with. I am glad I was introduced to a few new authors I will be reading more of. There are different genres of mystery as well: cozy mystery, historical mystery, etc. Thank you for the great introduction to some new to me authors I will be reading more of.
I was given a complimentary copy of this book.
All opinions expressed are my own.
I really enjoyed this sampler. It is a mix of new-to-me and favourite authors. It was a treasure to visit with my favourite authors like M.C. Beaton, Ellie Alexander and Cate Conte.
My favourite new-to-me was Celeste Connally with her story, Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Lord. I've recently gotten back into historical romance and this one was my absolute favourite. It is definitely Bridgerton meets Agatha Christie and the sample was simply a delight!
This sampler is perfect for new readers to the genre, as it certainly will entice readers to pick up all these stories. Now I'm off to finish reading Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Lord!
This is a great introduction to some new series and a review of upcoming texts in familiar series. I like seeing what some of my favorite characters have been up to over the past year or so.
I always enjoy these collections since they allow me to get a sneak preview of upcoming publications from my favorite mystery authors.
This has some fabulous authors! Will definitely be purchasing some of these cozy authors for the library. I like how the cozy genre has expanded to include all types of themes, attracting more readers.
Love this series had some good stories by various authors in the cozy mystery world. Each book in the series gets better and better. Look forward to the next one
Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC of Cozy Case Files, Volume 19.
There were a few good stories in this volume. M. C. Beaton and Celeste Connally started off strong. However I found many of the later stories to lack any hook that would convince me to buy the complete book.
I requested this out of curiosity and because I love reading cozy mysteries. I discovered a couple of stories I'd like to finish and met new-to-me authors. This is a nice sampling of cozies with something for about everyone. I was given a free copy with no expectations. Opinions are my own.
Ready for cooler days, a cup of tea, and a nice Cozy Mystery? Well, you are in luck!
St. Martin’s/Minotaur have released their Fall Cozy Lists and they are worth diving into.
Ellie Alexander, Donna Andrews, M.C. Beaton with R.W. Green, Cate Conte, Celeste Connally, Diane Kelly, Korina Moss, and Elizabeth Penney. See your favorite among these authors?
Check out the historical series debut Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Lord , it’s Bridgerton meets Agatha Christie.
Find out what in the bleu blazes is happening in Case of the Bleus . Or discover if an arrow really did go astray in Dead on Target .
Who doesn’t love a good holiday? Don’t be a scaredy cat around Halloween and read Nine Lives and Alibis . Or double, double, toil and truffle in Catch Me if You Candy . Celebrate Guy Fawkes Night across the pond in The Fatal Folio . A fire and a hot beverage make the perfect pairing for these Christmas Snow Place for Murder and Let it Crow! Let it Crow! Let it Crow!
Their blurb and it fits well. I have read all but one of these and will be grabbing that one soon.
There is just something about a cozy mystery in the Fall. It’s just a cozy time. I hope you check all of these out!
NetGalley/ St. Martin’s Press, August 22, 2023
Like the Whitman’s Chocolate Sampler, what better way to get a taste of upcoming novels from both familiar as well as new authors.
Cozy Case Files, Volume 19 contains eight different cozy mystery excerpts that are sure to please fans of the genre. And like prior Cozy Case Files books, the excerpts are just the right length to get a feel for the novel and the author’s writing style.
Titles included in this collection include: Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Lord; Case of the Bleus; Dead on Target; Nine Lives and Alibis; Catch Me if You Candy; The Fatal Folio; Snow Place for Murder; and Let it Crow! Let it Crow! Let it Crow! I was fortunate to receive full DRCs for several titles and for the most part, they did not disappoint.
I didn’t care too much for the regency era excerpt as I don’t particularly care for that particular era. Nor did I care for the mysteries set in the U.K for some reason. Maybe it has something to do with the dialect. Other than those issues, the balance of the excerpts were really enjoyable.
Cozy Case Files is absolutely the best way to sample different titles and authors before investing a lot of time and effort into the full novel. Four solid stars.
I received a DRC from St. Martin’s Press through NetGalley. The review herein is completely my own and contains my honest thoughts and opinions.
I wanted to read this because I mistakenly thought they were cozy short stories. They are actual books, you get to read the first 2-3 chapters. I ended up liking half of them and ordering 2. I recommend taking a chance on this, if you don’t like the story, you can skip ahead 2 chapters to the next one!
I received a copy of this from netgalley in exchange for a review and opinions are my own.
This was my first Cozy Case Files and I loved the idea of getting a sample of books coming up and choosing what book I want to read next. I learned book authors and series that I wouldn’t have otherwise picked up. Thank you for the opportunity to read this book.
What a fun little snippet of cozies coming out this fall!! There were a few that I don’t think I’ll be picking up (based only on my personal fall reading preferences), but many that I will absolutely be adding to my TBR!!
Cozy Case Files, Volume 19 is a sneak-preview collection of 8 new cozy mystery series novels. Released 22nd Aug 2023 by Macmillan on their Minotaur imprint, it's 243 pages and can be accessed on most ebook retailers (Amazon, Rakuten/Kobo etc) to download and read for free. This is the 19th cozy mystery sampler from Minotaur. It's worth noting that the ebook format has a handy interactive table of contents as well as interactive links. I've really become enamored of ebooks with interactive formats.
The collection includes a few chapters from each of 8 upcoming cozy mysteries by Celeste Connally, Korina Moss, M.C. Beaton (with R.W. Green), Cate Conte,Ellie Alexander, Elizabeth Penney, Diane Kelly, and Donna Andrews. One of the previews is a series debut (set in Regency England) which is always exciting, and there are several veteran authors with new books in very well established series.
All of them are appealing, and all of the included mysteries are reviewed (or scheduled) on my blog. The full mysteries themselves are all in the 4-5 star range, all are entertaining and well crafted. There are some good series releases coming up in 4th quarter 2023 to keep cozy mystery lovers entertained.
Definitely worth downloading the collection to test sample the upcoming books. Four and a half stars for the collection as a whole.
Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes
I always enjoy seeing these compilations when they pop up because I get to add more books to my ever-growing TBR pile! Of the 9 authors included here, a few are known to me but most are new-to-me writers that I am excited to get to know better. I am a sucker for a good cozy mystery-Agatha Christie and Nancy Drew were my childhood favorites, so this genre holds a special place on the shelves of my heart.
Random thoughts as I skimmed the excerpts:
The Bridgerton/Agatha crossover in "Act Like A Lady, Think Like A Lord" is going to be so fun!
I always forget that "marchioness" is pronounced "mark-ess". I think.
A pony named Rhubarb!
How do I get an invite to the Northwest Cheese Invitational? Although, no bleu for me, please.
Ciphers and cheese-a winning combo! Pass the crackers.
"There's never a wrong favorite when it comes to cheese" - YES Willa, I agree!
And the *other* Agatha is here! I haven't read an Agatha Raisin book in forever. Maybe it's time to revisit?
Cate Conte is new to me, but cats is a solid theme. I have 7 of them myself!
Ohhh an island near Salem! I love the cute little towns and seaside villages and Gilmore Girls-esque locations in cozies. This is a great setting.
I love a good ghost story.
These characters are hilarious. I need to add Conte to my list too.
Next up - Catch Me if You Candy. Back to the west coast!
Ellie Alexander is also new to me and I love her fall imagery and at this point reading I am wholly in an AUTUMN vibe.
"Buttercream had been her muse lately..." Same, honestly.
Next up, The Fatal Folio by Elizabeth Penney. Ah, across the pond we go!
An ancestral bookshop?! Marvelous!
This one feels the most "serious" in tone, setting, and plot but it's got a wonderful fall vibe to it
I'm suspicious of Kieran, but this isn't that kind of book!
Love how the gothic setting contrasts with the modern technology. Molly uses her phone for everything like a good millennial!
Ok,, Snow Place for Murder. I love a good pun/play on words.
North Carolina mountains....great setting. One I am familiar with in real life.
This one reminds me of a Hallmark movie plot (not a bad thing!) except no one dies in a Hallmark!
Well Misty, not gonna lie. You would likely be suspect #1 here.
A character nicknamed Pebble! Adorbs! The girl version of Chip.
This will be perfect for reading as the weather gets colder and we head into winter (at least for invoking the feeling, since I live in FL and it will be 80 degrees)
Last one -- Let It Crowx3 by Donna Andrews....good pun. I'm in. Donna is new to me also.
A WHAT competition? Weaponsmithing? Huh, I'm about to learn something.
So Meg is a retired nurse turned blacksmith? Fascinating! I know cozies often center around the job of the main character, and it's usually some variation of a bakery or cafe or bookshop, so I am all in for something so unique
Given that, I expected more horses!
Overall a solid preview and I am excited to pick up a couple new series when I'm in the mood for a cozy!
Thank you to Netgalley, the publishers, and authors for making this complication available for a sneak peek and review!
I did find a couple more authors to add to my authors to read. The author's I currently read it made me look forward to the book that is coming out.
Thank you to the authors, publisher and NetGalley for my eARC in exchange for an honest review.
