This was cute. It felt straight out of wattpad but it's understandable since the author is only 16! Hope she keeps writing and growing 😊
Thanks to Netgalley for providing me with this ARC!
This book moved way too slow and I found myself losing interest every time I tried to pick it up and read it.
This one was another cute story to put you in the Christmas spirit! It definitely has more YA feels and there is minimal spice so think hallmark! I loved the relationship between Aspen and Roman and the switch between past and present. Not to mention the Taylor Swift vibes!
I love the idea and the overall concept, as I adore the inspiration of the song title, but the execution was just off for me. The nicknames really irritated me too and I felt the story had no depth, despite it being about an ongoing relationship. Definitely more of a YA feel and could be marketed that way with some tweaks.
Obviously the Swiftie in me had to pick this one up. This book was so painfully YA, but the author is 16 years old so that tracks. The writing was choppy and awkward and the plot overall just wasn't really what I was expecting. It took place during the holiday season, but I thought it was going to be more a Christmas book. I was also under the impression it was based off the Taylor Swift song 'Tis the Damn Season, but it really wasn't. Maybe a little bit but the whole plot of Aspen's scandal kind of overshadowed that. I probably would not recommend this one. I like the nod to my girl Taylor but it just wasn't a quality book. Don't get me wrong, I'm a sucker for a good YA, but this just wasn't it.
This was such a fun read! I loved that it was inspired by one of my fave Taylor Swift songs and I loved how the plot / setting paralleled the song so well. I loved the characters and the current and past chapters. Second chance is one of my fave tropes and this was so fun to read. It had a lot of heart and emotion and I definitely recommend.
Thanks to Netgalley and Parson Press for this E-arc in exchange for an honest review.
I really wanted to love this book because the title and the cute cover. First of all, kudos to the author Because she’s very young. This book skewed very young, though. I feel like that’s due to the author’s age a little bit. I had a hard time connecting to the characters because they acted so young. It was a super cute plot though!
This was a fun holiday read with a creative plot. I laughed at some parts and overall enjoyed it a lot.
Unfortunately this was a miss for me. The writing felt very YA/childish. I saw that a teenager wrote this? I wish i would have known. SKIP
I was very intrigued by the plot of the book when I first read the plot. 'Tis the Damn Season is a second chance romance where the female protagonist, Aspen, is a famous popstar who comes back to her hometown for the winter holidays to escape from a big scandal. Coming back she rekindle almost immediately with her high school ex boyfriend and first love, Roman.
The premises of this book were out of this world for me because I loved every single aspect, for this reason my expectation were very high for this book.
I really liked the past and present perspective because it helped understand a lot better the situation but overall it was very difficult for me to connect with the characters and rooting for the as a couple, they had to go through a lot (both as teenagers and as adults) but it was very hard for me to picture them as a couple. I saw them better as best friends.
Overall the book was very fast paced and easy to read and follow!
DNF at 35 percent. The juvenile dialogue and immaturity of the characters got on my nerves. I wanted to enjoy 'Tis the Damn Season as it's a book based on one of my favorite Taylor Swift songs, but oh well.
This was a really cute read. I liked how each chapter had a different song as the theme. Overall, a fun read.
Thank you to NetGalley and Parson Press for the E-ARC
All thoughts and opinions are honest and my own.
I'm pretty sure that I am not the only Swiftie that will be devouring this book during the holiday season. A great, quick read worthy of your holiday TBR list.
What a cute little holiday romance!
The story follows Aspen Moore, an actor/singer caught in a scandal, causing her to her return to her hometown in Pennsylvania where she reconnects with her first love, Roman.
Overall, I did enjoy this book. I loved the second chance romance aspect and getting both the past/present timelines which really helped to establish Aspen and Roman’s love.
I also loved all the little Taylor Swift references and the fact that the author started off the book with a playlist that really helps to set the tone!
While the story was easy to read and very bingeable, it felt very juvenile even though this is an adult romance, and there were some inconsistencies with the plot lines and characters.
I would still recommend this if you’re still looking for a holiday read this season, especially if you are a Swiftie!
This was a DNF for me after the first 7 chapters or roughly 20%. From the description I thought this was going to be a New Adult romance, but it is actually YA.
There are dual timelines with one happening when the characters are 16 and the other when they are 23. Both timelines are awkward and don’t standout enough for there to be almost a decade of character growth. Without the chapter headings showcasing what timeline you are in there is little difference in how the FMC thinks/acts. This was worrisome since one side is in high school and the other is after the FMC becomes a famous actress/singer.
I have nothing against a YA holiday romance, but the writing isn’t great and very juvenile. There is a LOT of telling instead of showing as if the narrator is talking to the reader and recounting events/feelings. It may not be bad if you go in knowing it is YA, but I felt like it was a bait and switch.
Second Chance Friends-to-Lovers meets Taylor Swift in this new holiday romance by Kimi Freeman!
Kimi Freeman crafts a perfect world of snow angels, Christmas carols, and falling in love. This book felt like a warm cup of hot chocolate while driving around to look at Christmas lights. The masterful hidden Taylor Swift lyrics enthralled me, and I thoroughly enjoyed the song lyrics as chapter titles. The plot was well constructed and balanced the line between a sweet romance and essential commentary about harassment and rumor mills in Hollywood and the Influencer World.
The main and side characters were well-fleshed out. I cared about Aspen's music career, but not as much as her finally admitting she was in love with Roman. I would have loved Roman and his thoughts more, but with a single POV, we obviously get a subjective narrative. The choices all characters made were believable and fit the characterization laid out in the exposition.
All in all, this was a delightful holiday romance that, when taken for what it is, a light romance read. If you are a reader searching for a profound novel about second chances and the debilitating trauma from Hollywood, you are better off searching elsewhere. However, if your heart yearns for jingle bells and a holly jolly romance, run to your nearest bookstore to pick up Tis the Damn Season.
A special thank you to NetGalley and Parson Press for this Advanced Readers Copy in return for a fair and accurate review <3
Thank you netgalley for letting me read this arc for my honest review. I’m giving this book 3.5 stars. I did enjoy the concept of the story but wished there was more. I felt like things were rushed and needed more depth. Rome was boring, I feel like he just went along with anything aspen said or did and never spoke up for himself. I am glad aspen finally stood up for herself in the end after all the scrutiny she went through. Overall okay book!
"All I'm thinking about is me, my guitar, and singing to the love of my life."

I'm a simple girl. I see a book with Taylor Swift lyrics in the title, and I am going to read said book.
'Tis the Damn Season is a cute, contemporary holiday romance. Admittedly, this is a bit more in the YA category than I thought it was since it was marketed as New Adult, but it turns out that Kimi Freeman herself is only 16!! To write a novel this good at that age is impressive, and I just want to give her a round of applause for that alone.
We all love how masterful Taylor Swift is at writing a convincing couple and storyline. So, if these things are for you, then you'll love this book just as much as we love our girl Taylor:
•Small town/ second chance romance
•Former high school sweethearts
•Famous girl and small-town boy: she’s a famous singer, and he’s her muse
•Forced proximity as our two love birds co-produce their small-town Christmas play together
Overall, I enjoyed the fun, lightheartedness of this book, and it's perfect for a quick read during the holiday season!

'Tis the Damn Season was published in October 2023. Thank you to Parson Press, NetGalley and the author for the digital advanced copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This was debut book by this author and I had a nice time reading it. It's a small town, second chance romance between high school sweethearts. Aspen followed her dreams and became a Hollywood starlit. But as successful and as famous as she is, she is not happy and can't shake the feeling that she's missing something, proving the fact that money can't buy happiness. When she gets caught up in a scandal, she decides to go back home to her small hometown in Pennsylvania. While there, she reconnects with her former high school sweetheart, Roman. She knows things can't go far with him, their lives are too different now. But that doesn't stop the sparks that burn between them and the undeniable chemistry they have. After spending more time with Roman, Aspen begins to wonder if being a star is worth sacrificing her happiness and if she is finally right where she belongs.
A cute and cozy holiday read! The story was more of a YA theme, which I'm typically not drawn to, but it was a sweet story with endearing characters, and was quite enjoyable.
Thank you to Netgalley for providing a complimentary copy. This is my voluntary and honest review.
Is there anything a swiftie loves more than references to Taylor Swift? No! If you're a swiftie and a book lover, this is the book for you.
Aspen is a pop star, but she's also hiding in her hometown. A cruel rumour in the news has ruined her relationship with her best friend and left her without a place to go. She's a villain in her own story.
Enter Rome: her childhood sweetheart and long-time... friend? Working for her dad, Rome provides some much-needed support and friendship for Aspen. When her dad asks them to direct the church nativity, they couldn't help but say yes, and in the words of Taylor, Sparks Fly...
This book was full to the brim with Taylor Swift references, lyrics, and vibes, but do you know what? If you're a swiftie, you'll love it! It was well-written, the characters were well-developed and likeable, and most of all, there is an important message about self-worth and standing up for yourself woven throughout the novel. It was a thoroughly enjoyable book.
