I picked up this book because of the title and proceeded to have the track stuck in my head for weeks. And maybe that’s why this one didn’t hit for me because I kept singing in my head instead of absorbing the book.

I actually didn’t like this, I feel like it tried too hard to be like Taylor Swift.

Tis the Damn Season is about a Hollywood star who when first to return to her hometown after a scandal, reconnects with her first love. They struggle over the differences in the life style, is it worth it for them to pursue something when they’ll end up in different places in the end?

I thought this tried too hard to be “for the swifties” and didn’t enjoy it.

Cute romance with Taylor Swift references throughout! A good amount of coziness given the title and cover, definitely recommend to pick up if you're a swiftie.

In "‘Tis the Damn Season" by Kimi Freeman, readers are transported into the whirlwind of the holiday season with protagonist Aspen, who returns to her hometown for Christmas after years away. Amidst the festive cheer and familiar faces, Aspen reconnects with her past, including her high school sweetheart, Roman. As they navigate the complexities of second chances and unfinished business, Aspen grapples with the question of whether some loves are meant to be revisited or left in the past. Freeman's writing captures the magic and nostalgia of the holiday season, making this novella a heartwarming and enchanting read perfect for cozying up by the fire with a cup of hot cocoa.

I enjoyed "Tis the Damn Season. Aspen Moore and Roman Torres were cute.

There were a few spots that dragged and a few spots I wasn't into the plot. Overall, this was a cute holiday read.

This is a great romance for everyone who is a Taylor Swift fan! Each chapter begins with a song, most of which are by Swift. This is perfect, because the female main character is a singer who is forced to return to her hometown, where she reconnects with her high school sweetheart. The narrative goes back and forth between past and present, which I don't usually love in a book, but this is definitely a sweet little YA romance. I may get a copy for my classroom! <3

I picked this book up on NetGalley as a read now because I’m a big Taylor Swift fan and the title immediately pulled me in. The cover art was very cute, too! However, that was where the good feelings stopped for me, unfortunately. I made it about 5% before I had to DNF. The writing was very juvenile, which made sense, because of the author’s young age. It’s such an accomplishment to have published a book at such a young age, but I feel like the book should have been written for and marketed to the YA audience. It’s difficult for someone that is 16/17 to write adult characters and their experiences, and while the author tried, the writing was a little too juvenile for it to be believable. I would love to read another book by this author when she’s a bit older! I can she’s going places, even though this book wasn’t for me.

I got to about 33% and had to DNF it. The author has potential, but this should have been written as a YA book because it’s written by a teen who thinks they know how adults act. I was going to keep reading it, but I saw that there was no trigger warning for a scene with sexual assault that comes up later in the book, and I’m not in the mental headspace to read that.

3/5 stars

Thank you to Netgalley, the publishers, and Kimi Freeman for allowing me to read and review this book.

This is a holiday romance that has dual timelines. The main timeline is set in the present with flashback to seven years previously.

Although this wasn't one of my favorite romance books, it was very well written with interesting characters. I would still recommend this book to anyone looking for a holiday romance with right person/wrong time, Hollywood starlet/small-town boy, scandals, and small-town drama.

I loved this book, and fell in love with the characters. This is a new to me author but the reconnection between old lovers hits every single time.

This book is so sweet, packed with Taylor Swift references and a cozy setting. The dual timeline adds depth to Aspen and Roman's love story, giving off major "tis the damn season" vibes. It reminds me of Happy Place by Emily Henry, with its quick pace and short chapters. Plus, the playlist is perfect! My only gripe is that Roman's character needed more development and the "I love you" moment felt rushed. Overall, it's a cozy read, perfect for T Swift fans and those into second-chance romances.

'Tis The Damn Season sounds like a captivating contemporary romance that weaves together themes of fame, love, and second chances. With its dual timeline structure and inspiration drawn from Taylor Swift's evocative song, the novel promises to deliver a poignant and heartwarming story.

Aspen Moore's character seems to embody the classic tale of a Hollywood starlet who seemingly has it all but finds herself yearning for something deeper and more meaningful. The scandal that disrupts her glamorous life serves as a catalyst for her journey back to her Pennsylvania hometown, where she reunites with her first love, Roman Torres. The tension between their past connection and the reality of their present circumstances creates an intriguing dynamic, as Aspen grapples with the pull of her old life and the undeniable chemistry she shares with Roman.

The choice Aspen faces—between the allure of fame and the authenticity of her feelings for Roman—adds depth to the narrative, exploring themes of identity, self-discovery, and the pursuit of true happiness. The small-town setting juxtaposed with the glitz and glamour of Hollywood provides an interesting backdrop for Aspen's emotional journey and the rekindling of her romance with Roman.

Overall, 'Tis The Damn Season appears to be a captivating read that combines elements of romance, nostalgia, and self-reflection, offering readers a poignant exploration of love, sacrifice, and the power of second chances. Fans of contemporary romance, especially those who appreciate a touch of Hollywood glamour and heartfelt storytelling, are likely to find this novel both entertaining and emotionally resonant.
