A good companion to the original Mandalorian TV series.
While this book does not give anything new, if you like Manga or companion novels I would definitely recommend. If you are looking for new Mandalorian content, this will not be for you and I would recommend checking out the other Star Wars Manga series instead.
Felt like a pretty direct adaptation of the TV series, with slightly manga-ish art. Not sure what this provides over and above the TV series.
This one just didn't work for me unfortunately. It was too simplistic for my tastes, with not enough words on the page to go alongside the artwork (which is stunning). Those who love the series will get something out of this but for casual Star Wars fans like myself, it was a bit dull.
I received a free copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Fans of the series may consider reading this. It may work too for fans of newer Star Wars works. For libraries, if they have manga collections, and especially other Star Wars adaptations, they may want to acquire this. For my library, I would consider it an optional purchase. As a reader, this was nice, a bit of fun, but not terribly memorable. I did like it.

As someone who doesn't like Star Wars, I loved this. It was equal parts cute and action packed. This will be a fantastic addition to young readers looking for some familiar science fiction to read.
ARC From Netgalley.
When I picked up this book and looked at how short it was, I never expected to only cover the first episode of Season One! The art is wonderful, and I'm glad to see it covered in a manga style, but Marvel already has put Season One of Mando in GN format, and they are going much faster.
I will definitely be continuing to read this series, but I hope they make the Volumes much longer.
Recommend.
Star Wars: The Mandalorian: The Manga, Vol. 1, covers the first episode of The Mandalorian television show, and not any new adventures with Mando and The Child. However, I still think it’s worth your while, even if you’ve seen the show more times than you can count. There’s something remarkable about seeing this well-loved show play out on page in Yusuke Osawa’s incredible illustrations. While the television show moves quickly from scene to scene, the manga allows you to sit in every action scene, absorb each piece of dialogue, and see each character up close.
My favorite scene in the manga was the first cantina interaction between Mando and Greef Karga. There is so much detail in this interaction that I didn’t pick up on before reading this manga: the sheer number of tracking fobs and pucks, the imperious stares from onlookers, and Mando’s immediate hesitation at taking Imperial credits. Yusuke Osawa’s illustrations and dialogue portray this cantina scene so well, which made it a joy to read. Throughout the book, I found myself picking up on new pieces of the setting and remarking on the well-drawn details of favorite bits – such as rotisserie kowakian monkey-lizard. Even seemingly simple scenes come alive as Yusuke Osawa’s art breathes new life into this Star Wars classic.
This book is an excellent read for any Star Wars fan, even those new to manga. The end of the book features an instructional page explaining how to read manga. Between those instructions and Yusuke Osawa’s fluid storytelling, this book makes manga easy for readers. This book is also appropriate for younger readers; if they’re old enough that you would feel comfortable showing them The Mandalorian on Disney+, then this book would be a great introduction to Star Wars, The Mandalorian, or manga in general.
5/5 stars. I enjoyed this a ton and can’t wait for more in the series. The English version of Volume 2 in this series drops on May 7, 2024, just in time for May the Fourth.

This manga is a retelling of The Mandalorian series, and I loved revisiting the story. I’ll definitely be looking for the next book in the series to follow Mando and Grogu’s adventures.
A straightforward graphic novel adaptation of the first season of the Mandalorian. Follows each episode very closely. Artwork is very good.
If you've watched the Mandalorian show then you will probably like this manga. It pretty follows the plot of the first episode of the show almost identically. We see our Mandalorian bounty hunter, The Mandalorian, as he searches for a mysterious bounty.
This is a must read for any fan of the Mandalorian series or even just Star Wars. What a great adaptation that combines everything I loved about the series with the manga art style. Excited to see more volumes of the story!
I am a simply girl. I see baby grogu and I click. I enjoyed this manga and it was easy to read. Since I did read a digital arc of this I was missing out on the color and in the artwork which was disappointing. I do wish it covered more of the short but it was just the beginning.
It's fine. From other reviews, direct from the TV show. The artwork and progression is fine enough, as a bookseller my hesitation is that this is £10.99 for what feels like a prologue to the actual story. The first half has little if anything to do with this. Scene-setting I guess for people who don't know what an enigmatic and effective bounty hunter might look like, how they would act.
For some reason I didn't realize that this was gonna be the 1st season of the show just in manga form, I had wrongly assumed it was a new story. But, I wasn't disappointed at all, I love a full manga adaptation.
I greatly enjoyed this manga adaptation of the first few episodes of the Mandalorian television show. It's both accurate and fresh, beautiful and serious. The dialogue matches perfectly, the settings are portrayed skillfully, and the extra work done to make the emotions of Mando clear without a proper face are incredible. This is truly a series I would continue to pick up with great anticipation, even though I've already seen all seasons of the show multiple times. The end index explaining some info about the world was great and I very much liked the additional pieces of art and "you're reading the wrong way!" Illustration. A 5/5 star review from me.
Beautiful artwork, and I liked the pages at the end that give information about carbon freezing and weaponry that appears in this volume. I've watched The Mandalorian so I was able to follow what was happening fairly well, but if you're unfamiliar with what happens in the series, it may be tricky to follow events here as characters are not really introduced in any detail, and there are numerous pages of action and sound effects without dialogue. I did enjoy it and am looking forward to volume 2!
Brings the screen to the page. You can literally follow the show and look at the manga and see the show translate to the page.
