What happens when your expectations are unfulfilled? When life as you thought it would be is passing you by? Miller tells stories and gives counsel on how to live a full life - even when it's not the life you hoped for.
Honest in its emotions and strong in passion, the book allows the reader to explore unmet needs and disappointments. It names our biases and unhealthy responses. And it offers healthier ways of dealing with pain, abandonment, and rejection.
Read it. Be affirmed in faith. Be affirmed in personhood. And risk trying on the ideas in daily life. Miller offers tips and tools to move forward and live life to the fullest - especially when it's not all that you dreamed it would be.

This was a mess.
Some parts point readers back to God, but others have undertones of “God helps those who help themselves.”
Miller acknowledges unmet longing in four areas - singleness, childlessness, chronic health issues, and career aspirations. She mostly focuses on singleness, since that is what she experienced, with a side of childlessness due to singleness. She assumes there are “seasons” for these things and repeatedly uses that word, despite the disclaimer in other sections that maybe one won't ever get what they want. She never really addresses the issue of dealing with unmet longing or disappointment in every area of life allat the same time.
It seemed like she really wanted to write a book about singleness, but, since she met her husband part way through writing the thing, felt she had to include a few more checkboxes to try and reach a wider audience.
It all felt very contrived and trite. It was completely unhelpful.
A book of encouragement when going through the hard times in life. Really well written honest account of struggling through the hard times and learning God always stays with you even when we don’t feel him.
Thanks for the advanced copy.
I really enjoyed Rachel perspective when it comes to hope and healing. We all need help and a savior.
This was a really important book for me to read so I’m incredibly grateful that I was able to get access to it. The book tackles hard questions like ‘where is God in the suffering we experience?’ but also shows how to live alongside those feelings and embrace the difficult seasons.
