This book's cute cover and title definitely caught my attention. But the content was quite standard and is perhaps not as revolutionary as I would've liked. The premise of carrying out daily rituals and then having a further week to carry them out is great but I did not find them practical. Unfortunately, I didn't find this book enjoyable and I do not think I learnt much from it. It may work for others and I liked the quotes inside the book.
This brief book shares helpful practices that people can adopt to reduce stress and improve their mental well-being. The book isn't as revolutionary as the author tries to make it sound, since the practices are familiar recommendations like avoiding technology for an hour before bed, practicing meditation, and learning not to multitask, but she presents the material in an engaging way and provides brief, clear explanations of the brain science and psychology behind the issues she addresses. She also includes inspirational quotes that will appeal to many readers.
For the author's fourteen-day program, you adopt a different new practice every day for a week, and then you spend the next week maintaining these practices and reflecting on your journey. The book is concise and easy to read, and the author shares anecdotes and clear examples for how people can apply these concepts to their lives. However, potential buyers should know that part of the page count is devoted to repetitive journaling pages for the second week. This is pretty short, and the page count doesn't fully represent the book's substance, since there are so many consumable pages with all of the same journaling prompts.
Personally, I think that the program is too rushed for people to build effective habits. The short timeline will appeal to a busy and stressed audience, but I think that if this was designed for weekly instead of daily reading, the content would be more likely to stick, instead of this being another quick fix that people rush through before reverting to their old habits. Still, this definitely gives people a chance to experiment on a short timeline to convince themselves that it's worthwhile to keep working on these things.
I will be the first to admit that I do not typically like self-help books. While I think developing oneself is important, I often find self-help books preachy, boring, and difficult to apply in real life. This was not the case at all when reading “The 14 Day Mind Cleanse.” This is the first book of its kind I have wanted to and successfully finished. The author’s writing is accessible, interesting, and easy enough to apply to your life, but hard enough to make it worth it.
Sometimes books on self-help can seem like a scam, or a fad. This book is not. From my personal experience in therapy, I can confirm that the knowledge shared in this book is a reflection on many things I have learned in therapy. At the same time, it introduced new ideas and reintroduced old ideas in ways I can have hope to implement into my life. The author shares insights from therapists, philosophers, and more in order to include a multifaceted approach to mental health.
The plan is very easily adaptable to each individual reader, and while it can be done in 14 days, I found I needed to practice some aspects for more than one day to fully get myself through (especially powering down one hour before sleep). The author wisely targets how modern day’s fast-paced and technology-filled life contributes to our mental health struggles, and I want to read this book several times to absorb all of the wisdom shared.
Finally, I liked how the book was not overly verbose. Each day’s reading is kept to the point. It explains the plan for the day, and may include a short story to help illustrate the point of the exercise. After the introduction section, each day only consists of about five or so minutes of reading, which makes it easy to incorporate.
I would recommend this book to anyone looking to work on their mental health individually! It’s not a complete solution, but it is a wonderful aid.
Jacqui Lewis' book, The 14 Day Mind Cleanse, is a beautiful book that provides a thoughtful and guided path to finding a calmer mind. I've been looking for a roadmap to begin a mindful practice, but did not know how or where to begin. This is just what I needed to begin my path to mindfulness and meditation. Each day, for 14 days, this book provides detailed instructions on how to incorporate mindful habits into the day. I found the time devoted to completing the action items for the day well worth it! I would highly suggest a hard copy version of this book to take full advantage of the journaling pages and beautiful pages.
There’s so much I love about this book and I can see it’s going to be one I come back to again and again. I’d prefer a hard copy of the book for that reason and will be recommending it on that basis!
The 14 Day Mind Cleanse is an easy to follow practical guide for people who want a break from the digital load and want to try some mindfulness and conscious living. It's for 2 weeks so quick to do and try even for newbies.
Meditation is an integral part to life. Without it, none of us can fully enter a space with a clear mind. We need the clarity, and this book is an effective introduction to this clarity
The 14 Day Mind Cleanse gives 7 techniques to utilize in order to help reset your mind. Days 1-7 you are introduced to a new technique and on days 8-14 you implement all 7 into your days, including an 8th technique- journaling. The book does also include prompts for journaling as well as space to write!
I have read through this book but have not yet implemented these techniques, but I do plan on doing so! I have used a few of these techniques prior to actually reading this book and have had decent results, maybe implementing them in this order and for this amount of time will help it to work for me!
Thank you netgalley for the arc for my honest review.
I liked this book, the simple design was calming and the quotes in the book were lovely. It’s a great book to help you meditate and clear your mind. This would make a great gift.
The premise of this book really appealed to me.
However, the actual book was quite difficult to follow. I found this book very dense and a lot of the info went over my head. I think writing about meditation is quite difficult, I think if this had been an audio book I would have been able to digest it a little better.
I didn't enjoy this, or get much from it unfortunately.
The 14 Day Mind Cleanse helps to refresh anxious minds through rituals that lead to calm, including meditation, a digital detox, doing less to achieve more, and an emphasis on positivity and joy. I found its simplicity most helpful. Recommended!
Great book to help reset and start new, healthy habits. I like the daily practices and the repetition of doing them all in the second week.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the eARC!
Simple, to the point, clear illustrations, crisp headings. I found this to be helpful and useful for cleansing my mind over a two week period. I believe a lot of people in my life could benefit from this so I plan to gift it at the holidays. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. Five stars.
Such a helpful, informational book. The 14 day Mind Cleanse has a lot of useful information to.sooth and ease your days. Highly recommend!
The cover is beautiful, The title tells me exactly what to expect. I love how each section has a beautiful page with soft colors and a simple statement to reflect on. I learned so much. Each day for seven days is a new step to learn. Week two is continuing to do the seven steps, and questions to answer,
In our busy lives with technology surrounding us 24/7. We all need this book.
