I received an electronic ARC from Andrews McMeel Publishing through NetGalley.
Readers meet three friends, Waffle, Curly and Sweets, on a typical day that takes quite a turn. Their town is invaded by onion rings and they have to take action to save everyone. I appreciate Geron showing their scared side and not just jumping into action. Readers will connect with that. By working together, they succeed in defeating the rings as well as the onion blossom and saving their home.
The absurdity of potato types all living in one town will appeal to middle graders. Upper elementary students will appreciate the action and humor in the story and artwork. This one won't stay on the shelves.
As a 20 year old girl, this wasn’t targeted towards my interests group, but I still really enjoyed it. It was super funny packed with lots of puns. I will definitely recommend it for my youngest brother! It also had a great plot line with plot twist that keeps the reader entertained. 5/5⭐️
My girls thought this story was so cute. They loved the potato themed streets and the cute illustrations! Looking forward to buying a cop
I received this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Get ready for some potato- powered adventure in this lively and hilarious graphic novel. With bravery and humour, ketchup blasts and plenty of good crease, this is a deliciously entertaining quest for all ages. It is also great for English language learners and designed with dyslexia- friendly font.
This was fun! Potatoes, onion ring ufos, ketchup battles. This was some lighthearted humor and I loved it.
Curly Fry, Waffle, Sweet Potato make up the Fry Guys. When onion ring ufos threaten potato town, the three of them end up trying to save it.
From the tator tot daycare to the spud mayor, this was an enjoyable read with some fun little details. I thought the illustrations were great, colourful, and like I said, some neat little details added in.
Thank you to Netgalley for the ARC of this book. This is my honest opinion.
The classic side dish decision, fries or onion rings. Alien onion rings invade the land where the fries live and the fries must protect themselves! A very cute graphic novel for younger readers. At 82 pages it is good sized book without being too long for young readers. The illustrations were perfect for the book and the storyline in engaging. A great fun story!
It's fast-paced, fun, and jam-packed with fry and potato puns. The artwork is bold, colorful, and fits the wacky hijinks of our loveable tater trio. Oh, and there are UFO-nion rings invading the town. What more could you want?
My seven year old requested that I download this book for him to read. He loved it! He read it out loud to his 5-year-old brother and there were lots of laughs about the potato jokes. My husband and I got a chuckle too. This is a great book for new readers and reluctant readers who can be pulled in by the fun comics and jokes. We can’t wait to read future Fry Guy adventures!
This was an interesting book, but not quite my style with the cartoon layout. For others who love this format, I am sure that this book will be a hit.
I loved the story. So funny and adventurous! I'll definitely check out more by this pair in the future!
I've written a detailed review of pros and cons on a blog and then link to Goodreads.. This book deserves the love of children!
The potato jokes were perfection. I read this to my littlest one and all the adults in the house were laughing at all the dad jokes. Super cute little book!
I read this book with my 6 & 7 year olds and they really enjoyed it!
I thought the illustrations were fun, and while the potato puns were there in excess they were still cute.
My daughter, who has declared she hates comics, said she liked this one! That’s a lot coming from her!
A rival for Dav Pinkey’s dog man and captain underpants! My daughter and I loved the story. The characters were super fun, the book was a color bomb, we finished in two sittings. We will definitely will be reading more from the series! Thanks
Really loved the unique adventure! The illustrations were great! Could have more build up for the battles!
Thank you to NetGalley, along with the publisher for the eARC. The different kinds of fries on the cover made me laugh- I think kids will love reading about the adventures of the fries! This is a great beginner graphic novel for kids too. A very creative story for fellow French fry lovers to enjoy!
Thank you NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for the copy of Fry Guys.
"Waffle has always dreamed about adventure outside her small town of Spudtown, Idaho. But as it turns out, adventure was dreaming of her, too. One day, Waffle’s hometown is invaded by evil UFO-nion Rings. They're big. They're greasy. And they're ready to take all the fries back to their lair. It’s up to Waffle and her best buddies, Curly and Sweets, to put an end to the UFO-nion Rings’ rampage. That is . . . if they can!"
Absolutely adorable and funny!! Young readers and their caregivers will enjoy reading Fry Guys together. Cute art style too!
The first thing that caught my eye was the nice, colorful art. Spudtown is a beautiful place to live.
The book is also packed with funny puns. Pay close attention, some of them are hidden in the background.
An overall nice and cute story for very young readers.
This graphic novel was great! I enjoyed it as well as my young son who was laughing while reading it!
"Fry Guys" by Eric Geron is any fry lover's dream book! There are golden, crispy French fries fighting evil space UFO-nion rings! There are condiments! There is a lot of delicious humor! This is a great graphic novel for kids that want something fun and exciting to breeze through while enjoying some yummy French fries. The jokes are funny and the adventure is thrilling without being scary.
This was such a fun graphic novel to read as a family. Loved all the different fry characters and their personality. The onion ring ufo....so funny. This was widely like by the whole family.
