This was interesting! Not sure I’ve come across anything like it, which was cool. It was informative.
How to Eat to Change How You Drink was a really insightful read about how nutrition can support us in reducing cravings for alcohol and addressing the bodily damage that moderate to heavy drinking causes. Whether you're sober, sober-curious, or just looking to reduce how much you drink, Scheller provides helpful information on how alcohol affects your body and wellbeing, why we get alcohol cravings, how to nourish your body when you're trying to cut back or recover, and recipes and meal plans to get you through four weeks of sobriety or lighter drinking. I learned so much from this book and found it to be very open, supportive, and non-judgmental. Highly recommend this book to all.
When it comes to drinking (or rather, trying to stop drinking) not many people consider nutrition as a way to assist your journey. This is where this book comes in so nicely because it gives people another resource in an area not yet very explored: nutrition in sobriety. Whether you have been sober for 20 years, recently sober, or just trying to cut back on your weekly drink count, this is a truly wonderful and informative book to have by your side.

I have read quite a bit of sober lit and was not expecting anything new from this title, but boy was I wrong! Dr. Brooke Scheller does a fantastic job of approaching alcohol use from a nutrition standpoint. She provides evidence-based information about the harm that chronic alcohol misuse (or even just regular use) can do on our bodies, particularly in terms of damage the gut biome and nutrient deficiencies. She also provides a reasonable plan to recovery through relatively simple dietary adjustments and short and long-term supplement use. I highly recommend this title for anyone who is interested in managing their alcohol use, wants to help a loved one do so, or possibly (like myself) works in a profession that seeks to help individuals grappling with alcohol use disorder. Highly recommend!
This is an excellent guide with practical advice that makes perfect sense and will be helpful to anyone who wants to change their relationship with alcohol. I feel like more of these books should be published, because books build awareness and as society grows, it will help us all to change the way we view alcohol. There is entirely too much cultural influence glorifying this poison.
