I have voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this title given to me via NetGalley. This was just a wonderful book to read and it was just easy to lose yourself in the story. I can’t wait to read more from this author.
In my opinion there wasn’t much of a plot. The spice may have helped the book a bit, but it was not my cup of tea.
Thank you Net Galley for the book, my opinions are my own.
Raise is the 4th book in the Brother's of Wolf Isle series. This is Drostan and Amelia's (Lia) story. Lia is on a mission to destroy the Macquarie's to avenge her brother. According to her older brother they are evil 😈 and need to be brought to their knees. That's until she meets Drostan! He turns out to be the complete opposite of what she was told. In fact he is the complete opposite of her own family. Once again. We see the terrible pirate Jandeau try to split this tight Clan apart.
The Highlander’s Secret Avenger by author Heather McCollum had some interesting moments…
Drostan’s character had substance that stood out throughout the read. Amelia’s character from the start held subterfuge and was difficult to see genuine goodness as every step in the novel her character took was self serving.
The story’s timeframe was to quick to maintain any credibility in either character having any true, deep feelings of love and commitment. This only further diminished the thematic element of the Macquarie curse of the series and the tree’s happenings health/unhealthy appearance or effect.
While I like elements of the story, this instalment wasn’t the strongest in the series.
As a whole The Brothers of Wolf Isle series, has been some good reading.

The Highlander’s Secret Avenger by Heather McCollum
Brothers of Wolf Island #4
Three of five brothers overshadowed by a curse have found their true loves and begun to change the future for their clan bringing back t o life Wolf Island and a tree that seemed to have died. Two brothers remain, Drostan and Eagan, and this is Drostan’s time to do his part to break the curse.
What I liked:
* Amelia “Lia McLeod: sister to two horrible brothers, skilled archer, running from a forced marriage, has plans for revenge that go awry when she meets the family that are supposed to be her enemies
* Droston Macquairie: twin, fourth in line of five brothers, strong, caring, protective, believes he will have trouble with the curse, interested in Lia until a secret is exposed
* Sia: six-toed cat, saved more than once by Droston, could be lethal to Lia, finds a safe home
* Getting to see the brothers and how they are doing
* The plot, pacing, setting, and writing
* The part the curse and the willow tree play in the series
* Grisselle: older woman on Wolf Island who takes in stray children and women needing a safe harbor, descendent of the woman who cursed the Macquairie family, knows more about the curse than we have heard so far
* Getting to see some of the characters from previous books
* Wondering if the part of the curse related to tampering with the willow tree is true or not – hope to find out in the next book
* Looking forward to reading the conclusion and finding out who Eagan ends up with
What I didn’t like:
* Who and what I was meant not to like
* Thinking about what makes someone as evil as Lia’s brothers and the pirate Jandeau
Did I like this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series? Yes
Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for the ARC – This is my honest review.
4-5 Stars
Heather McCollum writes the best Scottish historical romance books and can I just say I think the book covers are spot on!
This has all the elements I enjoy in a historical romance, honorable and hunky highlanders, a heroine who is feisty yet needs saving, and a beautiful setting. Add to all of that, a mysterious curse on the family and their land tied to a willow tree on their property.
This is the fourth book in the Brothers of Wolf Isle series. This was the first book I had read and I loved it so much, I immediately binged the first two books in the series. They are equally as good and gave me a fuller understanding of this curse!
Plot summary of every book this author has written: brawny Scottish warrior sexses up innocent maiden who’s good with a bow and arrow. They sex some more whilst a villain is evil and out to get said maiden. The warrior is brawny, the maiden is beautiful, so more sex happens. Lots of characters appear from many past series who are also brawny heroes with their beautiful wives and whatever kids they’ve spawned (because of all the sex), don’t try to keep track- it doesn’t really matter to the plot. More sex and brawniness ensues and the villain is defeated, the end.
My review: Not terrible but not original and the plot is very meh. But brawny Scotsman and plenty of sexy times
It was a very detailed book. But I think it has too many complicated words. It may the reading an enjoyable.. but the plot is very good so I will still read it.
Amelia (Lia) MacLeod travels to Wolf Isle to escape the machinations of one brother and to avenge the death of another. It’s said that the Macquarie clan of Wolf Isle is cursed, but Amelia wants to take it a step further and destroy them.
She wants to destroy them, that is, until Drostan Macquarie keeps coming to her rescue. And to the rescue of her cat. And then he turns out not to be evil after all.
While he is definitely a Highland warrior, he is also kind and caring and thoughtful. She doesn’t want to be drawn to him, but she is.
And Drostan? Because of the curse, he doesn’t want to marry or have children, but he keeps feeling drawn to protect Lia.
Read this one for the strong female lead, the hot, cinnamon roll MMC, their chemistry, plenty of scheming, an appearance by pirates, a kitten that can’t help but cause trouble, and the continuing tale of the Macquarie clan (although this one can be read as a standalone).
I received a copy from Entangled Publishing and NetGalley. All review opinions are my own.
This book is an enthralling combination of pirates, kidnapping, and allergies. The main character, Lia, is a strong and determined young woman who longs to escape from her abusive brother and seek revenge against one of the Macquarie brothers on Wolf Isle. As she navigates through her treacherous journey, Lia faces many obstacles, but her resilience and unwavering spirit help her overcome them all.
When Drostan comes to Lia's aid and rescues her from an attack, Lia is initially hesitant to trust him, but his kindness and compassion soon win her over. As they grow closer, Lia begins to see a different side to Drostan and realizes that he might be the key to her escape.
However, danger lurks around every corner, and Lia soon finds herself facing unexpected challenges. Despite the many ups and downs, the story ultimately ends on a happy note, leaving readers feeling satisfied and content.
Overall, this book is a thrilling and captivating read that is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. With its dynamic characters, intricate plot, and satisfying resolution, it's a book that you won't want to put down.
Even though I have read the previous books in this series, I was a bit overwhelmed with all the names of the secondary characters! Drostan has 4 other brothers of whom 3 are married with children. In addition, there are the names of various residents on the Isle of Mull. But there is high adventure when Drostan meets Lia as well as plenty of steam. Unfortunately, because of the short time span of events, I didn’t feel the emotional connection between them. I am looking forward to the last brother meeting his match!
It’s been a long time since I’ve read a Highlander romance but The Highlander’s Secret Avenger by Heather McCollum reminded me how much I love them! I didn’t realize this was a series until well into the plot because of how well it stands alone as a story in itself. It has a little of everything, including those deep dark secrets with hints of enemies to lovers sprinkled throughout. It was a quick read for me and now I’ll be patiently waiting for Eagan Macquarie’s story.
I am a huge fan of this author. I really enjoyed the book just couldn't put it down, the storyline was very good with plenty going off, loved the characters Drostan and Amelia and all the other characters in it from the previous books it made for a great read.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Highlander’s Secret Avenger is the fourth book in The Brothers Of Wolf Isle series by Heather McCollum. Amelia is on the run from her abusive family with one mission: destroy the Macquarie Clan. Amelia discovers there is a curse on the brothers and plans on using it for their destruction. Drostan Macquarie vowed long ago to be free of the curse, yet when he meets Amelia, all good sense flees. The couple faces secrets, vengeance, and danger around every corner, yet none of it extinguishes their passion.
Of all the books in this series, I enjoyed this plot the best. The storyline was entertaining and engaging, even if it was easy to guess where things were going at times. The lovable characters and passionate romance made up for the discrepancies. I felt compassion for Amelia; she had suffered greatly and acted out the only way she knew how. Drostan was a gentle giant with a huge heart. The couple ignited the page together.
This is my favorite book in the series. Heather McCollum has created a mysterious, entertaining world filled with brawny highlanders and fierce lasses. I have enjoyed this entire series, and I look forward to the last brother’s story!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book through Netgalley and the publisher. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Drostan Macquarie is the forth of the five brothers from the cursed Wolf island. Each brother must marry for love and never father an illegitimate child to lift the curse.
Amelia MacLeod is out for vengeance. She hopes that by destroying the enemy it will relieve her of the guilt . What could possibly go wrong with that???
An action packed, slightly steamy historical, highlander romance. All the characters are full of fun and more than a few secrets. I definitely fell in love with our hero.
It is better if you read the series in order, but you could just read this or any of the series on its own. I have read and thoroughly enjoyed all of them and I will certainly read the next one.
I loved it.
To be honest, I love a good Highlander book. This one did not disappoint. Drostand and Lia were excellent, and I love a good hero!
Lia was very strong, and I love that Drostand would do anything to save her.
I recommend others read this!
A woman determined to avenge her brother falls for the very man she’s come to destroy in The Highlander’s Secret Avenger. Heather McCollum returns to Wolf Isle and the Macquarie brothers who are trying their best to break the family curse.
Drostan Macquarie rescues kittens and damsels in distress, so how can you not adore him? The Macquarie brothers must find the true meaning of love and not father any children out of wedlock in order to break the family curse. Drostan is determined to not be the cause of his family’s downfall…and then he meets Lia. The mysterious woman with secrets won’t tell him why she wants to come to Wolf Isle, but even with the red flags in front of him Drostan can’t help but fall for her beauty and strength.
Amelia MacLeod is desperate to escape her brutal brother and thinks the only way to find safety at home is to prove her worth by destroying the Macquaries. Of course, once she gets to know them and their clan she can’t bring herself to do it, but will the lies catch up with her? Drostan isn’t the monster she was raised to believe he was, and she falls hard and fast for the Highland warrior. Lia and Drostan have an easy chemistry that makes the pages of The Highlander’s Secret Avenger fly by. I really liked them together and their romance had a good mix of sweetness and spice. I was rooting for Lia’s secrets not to come between them, but what happens I’ll leave readers to discover.
Lia and Drostan’s story is the fourth in the Brothers of Wolf Isle series but you can jump in here if you like. The evil pirate Jandeau is always a threat in the background, ready to destroy the brothers and the women they love. There’s also the family curse, which features heavily in this story. I look forward to the Macquaries breaking the curse and seeing their home and loved ones safe and sound. I am very much looking forward to the youngest Macquarie brother finding love and breaking the curse once and for all.
Amelia Macleod travels to Wolfe Island seeking retribution for her brother, Iain's death. She believes that one of the Macquarie brother's killed him and although he was horrible to her as a brother, in order to make herself feel better about her happiness with his death, she tries to avenge him. She knew he was a terrible sibling but she didn't understand the depth of his evil deeds until it was explained to her by one of his victims. Despite her thinking he and his 4 brothers are murderers, she develops feelings for Drostan Macquarie. Unbeknownst to Drostan, the second to the youngest sibling of the Macquarie clan, Lia has come to their island under false pretenses with an assumed identity. How can they make a relationship work if they both are keeping secrets from each other? This is a well written story with lots of plot twists, Lia's secrets may cause the Macquarie brother's to lose a well known ally and Drostan's secrets may mean Lia has to live without the possibility of being a mother. I couldn't put the book down until I had reach the end to figure out how the story would end.
I received an ARC from NetGalley and Entangled and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
Since he was a young boy, Drostan Macquarie was sure that he would be the one to bring ruin to his clan, but he has taken steps to prevent that from happening and he has sworn to never marry. But the arrival of a mysterious woman on Mull looking to go to Ulva Island is going to throw a wrench in his well-ordered plans!
In an effort to save herself, Amelia “Lia” Mcleod decides to avenge her brother’s death at the hands of the Macquaries by using the curse put upon their family long ago to destroy their clan, but never in her wildest dreams did she think she would actually come to like, let alone care for the Macquaries, especially Drostan Macquarie! By the time she realizes she can’t go through with her plan to destroy them, the truth of her intentions are made known and any chance for happiness is gone – or is it?
I loved this book, I have enjoyed all the books in this series, but in my opinion, Lia and Drostan’s story was exceptional. I loved them together and individually, they are both keeping secrets and neither is looking for love, but love finds them anyway. This story is sure to have something for everyone, it is filled with secrets, curses, kitten rescues, jealousy, highlanders climbing in kilts, great secondary characters, pirates, steamy love scenes, betrayal, heartache, forgiveness, and a very sweet HEA. This is the fourth book in the series and while it can be read as a standalone, I would strongly recommend reading the series in order for the best reader experience. I am happy to recommend this title and can’t wait for the final installment!!!

*I am voluntarily leaving a review for an eARC that I requested and was provided to me by the publisher. All opinions in this review are my own.*
My very first Highlander book, I didn’t know it was the fourth book in a series so I went in blindly. Even if I didn’t get to read the first three (yet) the main points of the clan’s story were very clear. The Macquarie brothers are cursed, and one by one, each has fallen in love, and the main villain in the series is the pirate Jandeau! I will definitely go back and read about the other brothers. And will try to patiently wait to read about the last brother.
I loved that Amelia was a very strong female character, she was brave and fierce. I also liked how kind and respectful Drostan was towards her, always rescuing the damsel in distress… and the damn cat! Lol
The book was very fast paced, full of action, romance and some spice! I enjoyed it very much, Ye will enjoy tis book!
Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled for allowing me to read this advance copy!
