Loved this picture book about a purple Tractor who learns even if he doesn't fit in on a farm there is a place for him to do a job.
This is a beautifully illustrated book! This is a great story about finding your talents and fitting in. I can't wait to share this with all the young people in my life!
This was a really fun book to read. We meet a tractor who doesn’t seem to fit in on a farm, and wonders if they are meant for more. When a friend tells them of a different job, they are eager to try it out. Their parent give them permission, and it changes them forever. One night, something awful happens on the farm and we see something amazing happen. Most kids will have a great time reading this book.
Thank you SOURCEBOOKS Kids, Sourcebooks Wonderland for allowing me to read and review Little Purple Tractor on NetGalley.

Nice story that requires a parent or guardian to explain the lessons that can be learned. The story implies working together and working with your skill set is necessary. Also, every one's role is important. With the intended target (kids 4-7 years) I thought the story was too wordy and too long. However, I liked the way it was presented and was told.
The illustrations are spot on. The coloring is eye appealing to both kids and adults. I liked that they were muted signifying to me there was a lesson here. I found them to be beautiful.
The book would make a great gift for kids who have someone that talks and reads to them.
From the author of Little Red Sleigh comes a sweet story about a little tractor who has always felt a little different. He learns that sometimes, you have to stand out to find where you fit in.
My thoughts….
-reminded me of a Little Golden Book
-wholesome, heartfelt, with great themes and life-lessons
-perfect for those who love TRACTORS!
-perfect for young readers who are ready to sit and listen to a longer story
-beautiful, gentle illustrations that fit the story perfectly
Thank you go Sourcebooks and NetGalley for the gifted eARC in exchange for an honest review.
The ARC on kindle split the pages making it hard to read and see the pictures clearly. The plot was good, and the pages are colorful and accurate. I liked how purple tractors parents are red and blue, because red and blue make purple.
This book is overly long. Plus, it’s gendered when it doesn’t need to be. Normally you would see little purple tractor and think maybe the tractor was the girl but the author heavily uses he pronouns. Since we are talking about tractors, and except for saying mom and dad, they never gendered anything else. There’s no reason for them to gender the tractors. It could’ve been big red, big, yellow, big green, little purple. This book is also extremely wordy for no reason. It’s long and it drags on. This is definitely a lesson book. You’re supposed to learn that finding who you are and what your strengths are is good and showing others how you can help them with your strength while not ignoring the other strengths. It’s quite heavy-handed. This book was OK. It feels like it wants to be Otis and Good Night. Good Night Construction Site however, it misses the heart and the lyrical reading of those two other books.
This is a really cute book with such a wholesome message. Thankful for the ARC! Looking forward to more titles from this author.
Little Purple Tractor is different from the other tractors on the farm and wasn't build for some of the typical farm jobs. He begins to despair that there is no place for him on the farm. His friend Brown Truck tells him of his nephew who works in construction and Little Purple Tractor goes to the city to visit the nephew in construction. When he returns, the other tractors still are unkind to him. It is only after Little purple Tractor has the opportunity to put his construction site skills to use do the others see that he belongs on the farm as much as they.
I really like the message of the story, about the importance of finding your place in the world. The images were beautiful as well.
I did find it to be a bit long for a picture book- younger children might have a hard time following the story.
Fun story. I don't completely agree with the "do what makes you happy" sentiment. I do love how it displays everyone having unique and important jobs
I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. Little Tractor is unlike anyone in her family. She feels different and alone. This is a story about loving and accepting yourself. I found this book to be way too wordy for little kids.
This was a new to us author and we are so happy to have discovered her. This tale is about the Purple tractor who doesn’t feel like he fits in. He is different from the others on the farm and doesn’t do things the same way that they do. This makes him feel left out. His friend Brown Truck tells him about a place in the city. This is a construction site and from the moment Little Purple Tractor arrives everything changes for him, for the good This could be where he feels like he fits in. This is a wonderful way to teach children about finding your own place in this world. Not everyone fits in the same way or does the same thing, but there is a place for everyone to belong. And we ALL belong. The wonderful illustrations create a great visual children can relate to. My son, who is 4, is different in many ways and he feels that he doesn't fit in most of the time. This book was so encouraging to him. He adores tractors so it made it even more personal to him. He loved learning that with love and courage we can all find our own unique place to fit in. He sees that there are others who are unique and learn and do things differently, and that that is okay. We loved this book. We received it as an ebook ARC from NetGalley but I will definitely be buying it to add to our home library. The book meant the world to him. Your family will love it too. It opens up the opportunity to talk and encourage your little ones, especially when they are having a hard time fitting in with what others think is normal. We love the message it shares that everyone belongs.
My daughter and I read this during tummy time. I remembered the Little Blue Tractor books and thought this would be similar. In a way, it is but it isn’t. The book is more about finding out what you are good at and what makes you happy.
Purple Tractor is different from all the other tractors on the farm and often goes without work. Her friends leave her out of things because she is different. It’s not until Brown Truck opens Purple Tractor’s eyes to life outside the farm and sends them to a construction site. There Purple Tractor finds a purpose but what about their friends and family back at the farm? What will they think? What will they say?
This book is beautifully illustrated. I would suggest this for an older age group as it does deal with a bit more complex issues. It is well written and the storyline flows really well. But again, I don’t think it’s suitable for younger kids as it seems to gravitate towards more mature content.
A really great story of how everyone fits somewhere and differences are good things. Reading circle with a group of 6yr olds ended with each of them being a purple tractor and figuring out where they fit in. What a great story of belonging!!!
A great message to pass on to your children. While I enjoyed the concept a lot, some of the sentences felt long and drawn out. The illustrations could use more vibrant colours to better capture your attention. Cute story, but could use some work.
This story is about a purple tractor who feels like an outcast on his farm. He isn't good at the farm work like the other tractors and is made fun of because of it. He learns about working in construction, which seems to be a better fit for him. He has to learn to make his own way with his unique skills.
I appreciate the message of this book but the writing was overwrought for a picture book. This could have been condensed much more and let the pictures and the characters shine more. The dialogue was stilted and the book was challenging to get through.
Kids who like tractors will probably like seeing all the colored tractors moving around the pages, but other than that, this book was sadly lacking.
This was a sweet story with a great message for young children. We are all unique and need to find joy in that. My son enjoyed learning about all of the different types of vehicles on the farm. The illustrations are whimsical snd engaging. A fun book to read with young children.
This was a cute story of a neighborhood of tractors learning to appreciate their differences. It was a good lesson for kids told in a unique way.
What a great book about trying new things and finding the right place to fit in! I loved Purple Tractor and their parents. Plus Brown Truck. What a great guy. A sweet book that talks about the importance of finding your place in the world and how we can all work together to make it a better place. That's just what the world needs right now.
