This was a quick and fun romance, low-medium investment in the characters. It was great to see Courtney find herself and learn to stick up for herself instead of allowing herself to be kicked while she's down.
I also really loved Damien's role in Courtney's journey and how he helped her realize all the tools she had at her disposal to fully realize her potential instead of giving them to her or doing everything for her. And even though he was stubborn about it he allowed Courtney to do the same for him.
I do wish there had been more detail/satisfaction in her revenge, I did find the one scene of her finally sticking it to her psycho ex unfulfilling after all the build up of reading about what he did to her.
This was exactly as it said it would be. Light and spicy.
Easy to read, light themes for most of the book, with heavier undertones in relation to the movie and armed forces elements. But the real show stopper is the empowerment that Damien teaches Courtney. 10/10.
If you're looking for something light, spicy and the ass-hat gets what he deserves. Pick up this one.
Thanks to Indigo Group, Netgalley and the author for an ARC of this book. I am leaving this unbiased review voluntarily.
I have read this author's work before and enjoyed it. Unfortunately, this book just didn't work for me. I was expecting the book to be spicy and light-hearted but I didn't sense the chemistry between Courtney and Damien until I was halfway through the book. I think there's attraction but it's written in a way that seems a little detached.
Also, I didn't really connect with Courtney as a character.
*4.5
This was cute. I loved that he helped her learn to trust herself and know who she is. He believed in her the whole time. I just love books where the couple believes in each others dreams so adamantly. They truly found their person in each other.
I received an arc through netgalley.
Thanks to netgalley and publisher for this arc!
Tropes:
Star x Bodyguard
Boy falls first and harder
Really enjoyed this bodyguard actress book! The chemistry and love was there. Damien is just chefs kiss a cinnamon roll in a former marines big bod. Courtney's journey was uplifting and great to see after all she'd been through.
A Hollywood Ending, by Melanie Summers, is a short and sweet romantic comedy following the story of Courtney Bennett, Hollywood’s shining leading lady. At 38, Courtney is beginning to worry about the durability of her career in an industry that typically only values women at their youngest. However, she would never expect for her husband aka Hollywood’s perfect actor to throw her out like yesterday’s trash. Dealing with a PR crisis, divorce, and contemplating the future of her career, Courtney lays low in Colorado with her bodyguard Damien, a veteran, who offers to help her fight the biggest war of her life.
One thing I immediately admired is that this is a rewrite of a previous book of Melanie Summers’. It’s always something cool to celebrate an author’s growth, and I liked the changes Summers made to Damien.
This book is a perfect book for a movie adaptation, so here’s hoping Netflix or Hulu picks this up! The book is lighthearted, but still maintains substance with discussions of misogyny in Hollywood, women’s beauty tied to worth, and taking responsibility for your own personal growth, which made this book perfectly balanced. It’s entertaining to watch Courtney go from a devastated and helpless star to a bad b*tch.
I appreciate how the author wrote a healthy relationship between Courtney and Damien, even when things weren’t perfect.
In the past, I hadn’t read any books with the bodyguard trope but I can definitely see the appeal now! While the author warned this book is much spicier than her typical books, it was not extremely spicy to me, and I think the writing of her spicy scenes could use a little development as I found myself skimming some of them.
I would recommend this book to someone who does not want to invest in a lengthy series but still wants a good book fix! While the book is being released towards the end of summer, I think it is a great summer read!
3.5 Stars out of 5!
Courtney Bennet is a famous actress struggling with insecurities about getting older in Hollywood and what that means for the future of her career and the roles she chooses. During an interview for her latest film, she is blindsided with proof of her famous actor husband cheating on her with his current, much younger costar. Her team immediately sends her off with bodyguard Damien Young to his remote cabin in the woods to let the commotion of her impending divorce die down in the tabloids. From the moment they meet, they don’t see eye to eye on how to handle Courtney’s situation. Damien is trying to start a business focused on empowerment and wellness, so the two decide that Courtney would be his perfect first client. As the weeks pass, Courtney must work on her confidence, personally and professionally, and try to fight her feelings for the one person left standing by her side.
Unfortunately, this one didn’t work for me. I needed a slower burn between Courtney and Damien. Their initial physical attraction to each other was okay, but I wanted more pining, more awkward moments, more getting to know one another. Their relationship just felt very surface-level. I also wanted more of Courtney finding her voice away from her marriage and career. I did enjoy the setting, both the Hollywood and Colorado woods parts. I also liked the team of people that Courtney eventually had on her side after her divorce. I think they were important figures for her in her life moving forward.
Thank you to Indigo Group, Xpresso Book Tours, NetGalley, and author Melanie Summers for an eARC of this novel in exchange for my honest opinion.
I got an ARC in exchange of honest review. Thanks netgalley for the copy.
This ws my first time reading any book of Melanie summers and I'm a little conflicted about this one. The overall story was an enjoyable read, but there were a few aspects that didn't appeal to me.
First off , I really don't like the concept of insta-attraction as it ruin the appeal of the romance in the story.
Secondly, the epilogue was bit too over the top for my taste and and a bit unbelievable considering the initial circumstances of the heroine.
Thirdly, I think there was no need of a chapter to be dedicated to exercising, that was total unnecessary writing.
BONUS point for the great cover, that's what initially attracted me to read this book in first place.
Courtney and Damien were likable characters and really sold the bodyguard trope. She definitely lacked self esteem at first, but he was definitely the guy to help her find it once again.
I guess ,It was very sweet to see how they built each other up and encouraged each other to push themselves to accomplish what seemed impossible at first. Damien was really supportive and encouraging but unfortunately don't have the lasting impact on readers as book boyfriend. Early on, it felt like there was something missing - specifically the buildup to the chemistry. Once they did get together you could definitely see it, but at first it felt like the whole element was missing. Brock was predictably a weak and awful OM, but I wish we could read more about his downfall in much more detail and really enjoy getting what he deserves.
It was 3 stars for me...as It lack something to make it as 4 or 5 star read..
Not gonna lie, but after reading this book I just thought to give one more read to the other books of Melanie and that was AFTER WIFE and I must say that I really enjoyed it.
I loved this book so much. The growth these characters went through was just fenomenal. I was expecting one thing and what I got was so much better. Courtney had her life turned upside down and no one on her corner. She had to learn to be stronger, choose better people to have with her and how to stand up on her own. I loved her, she wanted to give up so many times but she didn't. Damien was her biggest supporter, I loved that. He was there for her, always, no matter what. He was a good man and just wanted her to reach her utmost potential. Their love was beautiful. They loved each other equally and so much. Each of them doing what they couls for the other person's happiness. And that's exactly what love is
This book was a quick, easy read and felt like the perfect book for a beach day. I love fluffy romcoms, and while this book covered some heavy issues, the overall theme focused on empowerment, trust, and self worth, so it kept a light, positive feel. There was definitely some steam in the romance, and I especially loved the ‘bodyguard trope’ along with the ‘carrying the female main character trope’!! All around a really cute read!
This was a quick and easy read. The plot is pretty straight forward and the writing style was good. I liked how Courtney found her inner strength during what was a pretty awful and publicly humiliating situation with her ex. The chemistry between the two leads was alright but not particularly mind blowing. I would have preferred more of slow burn buildup to them falling for each other. Overall interesting but somewhat predictable read. (2.75 ⭐️ rounded up)
I was excited to read this book. I liked that this book had a story that was full of growth, love and learning. The writing is brilliant, witty and keeps the reader engaged.
This story begins with Kimberly divorcing her ex-husband and her life seems to be in ruin. She escapes Hollywood and her miserable ex with her bodyguard Damion. Through friendship and unexpected turns Kimberly learns how to stand up for herself and become the best version of herself. Damion stays by her side and together they fall in love.
What to Expect:
Opposites Attract
Hollywood Troupe
Engaging Characters
Right Mix of Chemistry and Steam
I found this book to be a fun, engaging read and just the right balance of plot, chemistry, and steam. Thank you @Net Galley and Melanie Summers for this ARC.
DNF at 20%. I really wanted to like this book, and in the first few chapters I thought I was going to love it! It turned for me when Courtney repeatedly referred to her husband's affair partner as a slut and a bimbo (she's not the one who cheated on you, babe). I thought, well, she's having the worst moment of her life, this could still turn around. Then Damien being "gun-toting" is listed as a reason why he's dreamy. A page or two later, he shames Courtney for "taking drugs," which were given to her to stop a legitimate panic attack. Instead of explaining this to him, she accepts it and feels ashamed. I am definitely not the target audience for this book, all of these things considered. The writing itself was wonderful, and the first couple chapters of scene-setting and getting to know a bit about Courtney and Damien's lives was engaging and got me excited for the love story to come, but the wheels fell off almost as soon as the MCs were finally in a room together. I'm sure there are plenty of readers who wouldn't be bothered by the things that were deal breakers for me.
A light and enjoyable read with a sweet and kind heroine, a strong and worthy hero, and one dimensional baddies, but most importantly a relationship that develops as two characters offer each other respect and support. Everything happens quickly making this more of a snack than a meal.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Such a sweet romance story! It was a cute read and kept me entertained but it just was not one of my favorites. It was a cute and fun read, and I will recommend it but I don't think it will be my go to recommendation.
Overall 4/5 I enjoyed the style of writing, and the spicy parts, and it also had me wishing something like that existed IRL and also that I could afford it because it could change my life, but I digress, the point being the premise, the characters, the imagery/description and the cohesiveness and aha moments were great. I even took some screenshots of some phrases I particularly enjoyed and can apply to my own life.
The premise: a tale as old as time in Hollywood- the unknown beauty meets megawatt superstar, they fall in love & become the golden couple, only for him to leave her for a younger model 10+ years into their marriage. The twist: all is not what it ever seemed to be, secrets will be revealed, betrayals will happen, and new beginnings will flourish. (read on for my detailed review)
- Very easy to read and get into the story from the get-go (I finished it in 1 day, 5h actually)
- I love how relatable Courtney is even if she’s a movie star, she’s good-natured and trusting and I feel for her struggles throughout the book.
- Brock (the husband) gives me the creeps which is good character development as I expect it’s precisely what the author wanted to accomplish.
- I know the story is based on Courtney, but I’d like a bit more of Damien’s personality to come out (halfway point this might change). Finished reading the book update: I definitely think a little more detail could’ve been given from his perspective/past/personality but enjoyed his character nonetheless.
- I really like the use of modern stuff such as TikTok and AI in the book, it adds an extra layer to the story to show temporality.
- The premise is intriguing especially when she starts working to become stronger & piece back her life, some of the tidbits are included as details on what the character is actually doing/reading more so than just “reading a book” or “doing the workbook” which I very much enjoyed.
- Chapter 15 hit hard… I related to her saying she isn’t proud of herself for anything in particular
- I like the sexual tension that’s building up in these characters throughout the first half
- I find the barre-ballet-yoga part of one of the chapters hilarious and had me LOL
- Sex scenes were very well written, they weren’t repetitive, explicit but also not as much that they’re crude, which left just enough for the imagination but painted a clear picture of exactly what was happening and I didn’t want to skim over them as I sometimes do if they get too copy paste-like.
- I thought the conflict part needed a bit more attention on the guy’s side, it was very one-sided minus a couple of pages on the best friend knocking some sense into him, and after the reunion, then a very short last couple of paragraphs for the time jump which could’ve also had more content to it
- I enjoyed the epilogue, it definitely matches the title of the book and the story, I would’ve maybe liked a little bit more detail as the ending felt a bit rushed
- Bonus points for a great cover! It’s what attracted me to want to read the book in the first place & I’m sure it’ll do the same for other potential readers.
- And I know this has nothing to do with the content of this book specifically, but I enjoy when a small excerpt of another of the author’s books is added at the end as it gets me hooked into wanting to read it so good call on adding it in there.

If you like sweet and clean romance, then give this book a chance. It’s a nice and easy read, entertaining with a happy ever after that proves that with love, you will always find a way to conquer the obstacles life throws in your way.
Courtney Bennett is rich, famous, and half of Hollywood's "It" couple. But when her husband cheats on her with a younger actress, her world topples down. Enter Damien Young, her hot bodyguard who is determined to help her get back on her feet.
I'm a bit of a sucker for celebrity and bodyguard romance so I was excited to read this. While the storyline is not unheard of, it was enjoyable to read nonetheless. Damien believed in Courtney and supported her through a tough time in her life, and Courtney proved to herself and everyone else that she was not just some Hollywood actress.
This book may not be full of romcom laughs but it's sweet and definitely got spicy! If you're looking for quick spicy romance, this book might be fo you!
In A Hollywood Ending, we meet Courtney who has just gotten her heart (and pride!) absolutely stomped over by her asshole ex, Brock, who is a very famous Hollywood actor.
Courtney hides out in Aspen, Colorado with her hot bodyguard Damien who guides her through the process of rebuilding herself, stronger than ever.
This was such a sweet story! I loved so many elements in this story
Courtney was such a badass who continued to rise through repeated knockbacks. I really respected her ability to work hard and, once she committed to Damien's program, her ability to think strategically to come out on top. My heart broke for her when she found out about Brock's cheating - and even moreso when she found out how her circle had betrayed her. What about that social media post - ouch! Brock's manipulation made me blood boil - I felt this like could have been an opportunity to shown how this pattern of behaviour is so toxic and how much better off Courtney is without Brock and his influence.
Generally, I would have liked to see both characters fleshed out a bit more - Damien with his military background and Courtney's background before she met Brock. There were some glimmers of really interesting tidbits - including Courtney sleeping with a Director to get her first role - but unfortunately these opportunities weren't capitalised.
The ending was a stereotypical romance ending - Courtney held some pretty big information from Damien who saw it as a betrayal. Damien's reaction was disappointing for a 40yo man - it was purely his ego and pride that meant he couldn't accept Courtney's help. Having really liked him as a character for the entire book, this was a let down.
The spice was SPICY too! I loved reading how Damien and Courtney's intimacy and connection grew. It really felt like they had chemistry and strong intimacy. The spicy scenes were well written and not overdone or cheesy.
Generally A Hollywood Ending was a lovely, light read that will leave you feeling happy. Thanks to
I thought this was a very cute read with good spice! It is such a feel good uplifting romance and it really felt good reading it. All the support and love the MCs gave eachother was just 🥹🥹🥹
