There’s absolutely no doubt in my mind that The Nanny’s Child - L.G. Davis’ anticipated follow-up to The Lies We Tell series opener, The Nanny - will thrill you with its ingenious twisty plot.
Before I tell you anything more:
1) This novel is in the running for my favourite psychological thriller of the year.
2) If you are into ‘buddy reads’ this one is the perfect choice.
3) PLEASE do not ruin your reading experience by reading the synopsis. Go into it blind.
Weaving together themes of obsession, murder, and family, The Nanny’s Child centers on the rippling and damaging effects of trauma in one’s formative years. It shows how retribution and uncovering truths become an obsession and leaves readers wondering if the characters can ever put the past behind them. The wake of secrets makes it difficult for the truth to be set free. Will obsession lead to the characters’ downfall? Can these people finally put the past to rest?
You’ll be absolutely gobsmacked as this character confronts devastating secrets about a traumatic past and you’ll will be watching over your shoulder, aware of every noise, when the paranoia and tension ramp up. You’ll be physically and mentally drained but will close the book knowing you’ve got a masterpiece of plotting in your hands.
L.G. Davis - THIS. IS. PHENOMENAL. It has more twists than a pretzel factory and is so much more deliciously wicked and secretive. It’s addictive and ingeniously plotted. I’ve never read anything so well orchestrated and had so many questions floating through my mind as I read. You had me creeped out and tensed up. THANK YOU.
Do you have to read book one? I don’t think so, but you’ll have more continuity and understand the motives better if you read it first.
Anything I thought could be improved? As perfect as this was, I thought the ending could do with a tweaking and the synopsis could be rewritten.
Go secure yourself a copy immediately. This is L.G. Davis at the top of her game.
I read this with a friend (@SabiReads) and the whole experience of sharing every chapter made this a stellar reading journey!
I was gifted this superior read by Bookouture and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.
I love LG. Davis, so I was thrilled to receive an ARC of The Nanny's Child. This review is for both the first and second book in the Lies We Tell Series. I read a lot of psychological thrillers, so it takes a lot for me to be completely surprised. However, both of the books kept me guessing and saying "wow!" I am so glad the author chose to make this in to 2 books instead of rushing the plot and cramming it all in to one novel. I cannot say enogh good things and will be telling everyone to check out these two books!
After reading the previous book, The New Nanny, in one sitting I couldn’t wait to see what this one brought. I didn’t expect it to be so much better than I thought it would be.
If I thought the twists in the previous book were good, the constant wow moments in this story blew me away. I honestly couldn’t keep up and again read the book in one sitting over the course of a few hours.
Brilliantly told, kept me gripped throughout, and I’m sad that it’s finished.
Huge thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing a copy.
This is the second book in the Lies we Tell series by L.G. Davis, the first book being The New Nanny. This book starts off right where the first one left off. Christa is still looking for her son who she thinks was taken away from her at birth. We find out in this book why she thinks that and what exactly happened.
Christa now has her own baby, Heather, to look after and takes another nanny position. The story unfolds around this new family and why Christa took this job. The boy she thought was her son makes an appearance in this book (he was introduced in the first book). This is a fast paced page turner of a book. I did like the first one more, however, but for different reasons.
I love the writing syule of this author and everything flowed together so nicely. I wasn't left with questions at the end. I'm assuming this is the last book in this two part series. I highly recommend this book. Thank you to Bookouture and Netgalley for the ARC. I greatly appreciate it.
I read the first book in this series last week and loved it. I couldn't wait to start this one and omg I wasn't disappointed!!! It was so good I read it within a day. Huge 5 stars.
The Nanny's Child is such an amazing book, it's full of action I literally could not put my kindle down, I absolutely loved it, I highly recommend this book.
Book 2….. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review. This was a creative and absorbing tale! Definitely recommend this one!
Had my attention from start to finish… I couldn't put it down and finished it in a day. Can't wait for more from this amazing author What an absolute cracker of a book!!!…
I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough with this one. So much suspense and so much going on. Book 2 was just as good as Book 1 and it tied everything up nicely! Very well done!
The Nanny's Child (The Lies We Tell Book 2)
by L.G. Davis
Pub Date: 11 Sep 2023
I didn't think author L.G. Davis could out do the first book, The New Nanny (The Lies We Tell #1) BUT The Nanny's Child (The Lies We Tell Book 2) is as good if not better! It's another twisty psychological thriller that I couldn't put down. There were several scary parts that actually made my watch go off notifying me my BP was high! The characters were so believable, I really liked the main character. I was totally blown away by the ending. I hope there is a Book #3 coming.
Synopsis:
I’ve always had the urge to look after other people’s children. To pour care and love into their lives, because I know what happens when you don’t. There are terrible people out there, who have been neglected and hurt and want to see the world burn. You don’t want people like that in your home…
I look up at the beautiful woman with perfectly painted red lipstick standing on the front steps of her grand Victorian house. Harper already trusts me to take care of her two little believes the lies I’ve told her about where I come from and how many other mothers have welcomed me into their homes. Then I see the familiar form of her husband. My ex. The man who knows where my own missing baby boy is.
Thank you #Bookouture, #Netgalley & #TheNannysChild for providing me with a copy of the E-ARC. This book is available for purchase on Sept. 11,2023
Wow! Yet another dark and creepy read from
LG Davis! This was a great book to get totally wrapped up in. The characters are fantastic and kept me captivated the entire time. Lots of secrets, lies and deception.
Thank you NetGalley, LG Davis and Bookouture for the opportunity to read and review this book.
Thank you to Bookature for allowing me to the second installment of this fantastic series in exchange for an honest opinion.
Cults, murder, secrets, and lies! This book has it all!
Continuing from book one, Christa is still looking for her missing son, who was taken from her as a newborn born. She's now hot on a trail to getting some answers, but in the meantime, she takes a nanny position caring for twins. Twins whose father is also Christa's baby's father.
I loved the book, and although it is not as exciting as the first, things are all tied up neatly, and questions are answered. There's also a few twisty surprises.
I have read every one of LG's books and can honestly say she is one of my go-to authors where I will buy blind, read blind and am never disappointed.
Very highly recommend this and all her other novels.

I have read all books from this author but this is my least favourite, in fact I was glad when I had finished it.
It was hard to get into the storyline or the characters and I was really disappointed.
All her previous books have been brilliant all five star reads for me but not this one unfortunately.
Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for this ARC.
I did not like this book as much as previous books by this author. I did not read the first book in the series, but I feel like this book recapped enough that I don't feel like I have to read it. Christy continues to look for her son while taking on a new nannying job. Turns out the neighbor has secrets, Christy has secrets, and the couple she is staying with have secrets. Who is the bad guy? Who has the answers she needs. This book does wrap up the series nicely, I just didn't find it as edge of the seat as priors.
Thank you to Bookouture & NetGalley for an ARC of this book, in exchange for my honest opinion.
I didn’t read the first book in this series, but there was enough background information in this book to help you understand. I stayed up late reading because I just had to see how the story was going to end.
Cults, secrets, Nannie’s, and murder; what more could you look for in a thriller??
Christa and her baby, just accepted a new job as a live in nanny for Harper and Troy, and their 7 year old twins. But this wasn’t a random job, she has a reason to be there; Troy. Troy is not who he says he is, a happy go lucky father and husband. He is her former lover from the cult she escaped, and they had a baby together. That baby was taken from Christa before she escaped the cult, and now that she’s found Troy she’s determined to find out what happened and where her baby is from all those years ago. Will Troy answer her questions? Or will he crack when he is forced to come face to face with his past? Z
I will say I enjoyed the quick chapters, and fast paced story. I did see the twist coming towards the end of the book, but overall it was still a very enjoyable and quick read!
I loved the first book and I absolutely loved this one as well. Fantastic thriller which I could not put down. There was lots of twists and turns I really didn’t know what was going to happen next.
Christina is still looking for her son who was taken away from her as a newborn baby. Christina is now nanny to twin girls while looking after her own baby. But Christina hasn’t just any normal nanny she is here under false pretences she wants to find her son and she will go to any lengths to find him.
This was such a gripping read I loved the character Christina. I will definitely be recommending this to everyone fantastic book. Thanks to netgallery and the publisher for my advance copy.
I received an arc copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for my honest opinion of it. I did enjoy this book but I have to say that the first one had more twists and was more suspenseful. I felt like at times that one was a little far fetched. I will certainly be reading more from this author.
I really liked the premise of this book but unfortunately just couldn’t get into the story. For me, it dragged a bit and there seemed to be a lot of vague references to a previous book so I spent most of my time confused and not able to get into the story.
I haven’t read the first book so maybe this will have helped.
Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher and author for this book. Intrigue and mystery kept me reading. A realistic main character added to the story. Surprises and red herrings. A surprising ending. Enjoy.
