A big thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the eARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is the 2nd in a new series. It reads well as a stand alone, but may be better if read in order. This is a somewhat confusing series for me. Beth Katz is an FBI Special Agent tracking down serial killers, yet is a serial killer herself on the side. She is a vigilante. I enjoyed the books, and the characters seem complelling. She seems to be getting closer to her partner Dax Styles. How long can she keep her secrets? Can she stop? 4 stars Well worth a read.

Another excellent read by the author in this new series featuring Beth Katz, she is one strong character! The usual high standard we have come to expect from DK Hood, always consistent and well plotted. Readers will love this one and I highly recommend. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.

I hope there will be more Katz and Styles stories soon. I absolutely love these two.
And not many authors have the guts to write about female serial killers and that’s a shame.

There are female killers that are brutal out in the world and people need to
Understand that men are not the only capable killers.

D.K. Hood has a great series started. Hope to real book 3 & 4 soon.

The second of this new series and even better than the first!!! More insights into Beth and Dax and Rattlesnake Creek, a fascinating new killer to find…what more could a reader ask for? A pulse pounding ending, twists and turns throughout, I could not put this down until I finished!

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and author for this eARC.

This is a great follow on from Dark Angel and a very compelling and absorbing read. I love the pairing of Katz and Styles, who assist Ryder in investigating the murder of a sex worker found in an isolated cabin. When a second victim is discovered the investigation really gains pace and Katz puts herself in danger to catch the killer. I think the authors writing style is very good and the story is easy to follow and flows effortlessly. For me, the descriptiveness of the scenes, the remoteness of the locations creates so much tension, atmosphere, suspense and wow moments in the story that make this a great read and one I kept returning to whenever I could. The author brings her characters vividly to life and I can picture them in my mind when reading. I really like the side characters too, especially Ryder and Wolfe and enjoyed finding a little bit more about Katz and Styles history. Katz dark side features more here that I really liked seeing and I hope for more in the next book. If you are looking for a murder/thriller of a read then I'd recommend this although would say read the books in order to know the characters from the start. I just loved this book, can't fault it in any way, it has the wow factor for me and I will be waiting eagerly for the next one.

5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Book #2 is even more phenomenal than Book #1. Beth and Dax are hunting the serial killer of dancers in this book which I devoured. Beth (or should I say the Author) does an amazing job hiding her true self from her partner. If she slips up she will be joining her father in prison! Thanks to NetGalley, Bookoutre and the Author for allowing me to read and review this book. I’m ready for #3.

One of my favourite author's has a new series and I can't get enough of Agent Beth Katz. After reading the first book Dark Angel I knew that this would be another hit from this much loved author.. Based in Rattlesnake Creek and partnered with Dan Styles Beth needs to come to terms with who she is. Reckless, impulsive and a killer. Beth is good at hiding her dark side but it is getting more difficult. Loved, loved it and another series that goes to the top of my must read pile.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the Arc in return for an honest review.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my copy of this book.

As the daughter of a serial killer Beth Katz considers herself a psychopath. It takes one to know and understand one, which makes her the perfect person to take down serial killers, either in her role as an FBI agent, or as her alter ego the Tarot Card killer.

Beth and her partner are helping out the local sheriff investigate the murders of exotic dancers. The dancers are carefully made up and posed, and their killer revisits them after death.

This book was amazing, I couldn’t put it down. I love the build up with the list of suspects and the investigation. I enjoyed the crossover with DK Hood’s other series and was intrigued to see if Beth could pull the wool over profiler Jo Well’s eyes. It was exciting having the two cases running at once with only Beth’s dark side knowing the second case she was investigating.

Can’t wait to read book 3!

Special agent Beth Katz is feeling a little more at home in Rattlesnake Creek and is even beginning to enjoy the company of her FBI partner, Dax Styles! As they  investigate the disappearance of a local dancer, the two of them are horrified by what they discover and know they need to act fast to prevent more deaths on their patch.

Beth is still hiding her own secrets as she searches for those serial killers who have or are likely to escape detection. Unfortunately, it's not as easy to disappear with an attentive partner close by, as she is beginning to discover! Can she head off into the Montana wilderness alone long enough to dispense her own special brand of justice without anyone missing her or is that no longer possible?

The second book in D K Hood's new series lets the reader into the lives of both main protagonists just a little bit more while bringing in familiar and much loved characters once again, which I very much enjoyed. I'm still not totally sold on the vigilante aspects of this series but the writing and original investigation are well worth a little doubt especially as I think this aspect of the storylines will change as time goes on. I do like Beth and Sykes and look forward to finding out what happens to them next.

I was able to read an advanced copy of this book thanks to NetGalley and the publishers, Bookouture, but the opinions expressed are my own. I enjoyed this very much and I like having twice the reading material from one of my favourite authors! Recommended.

Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for access to this arc in exchange for my honest review.

Detective Beth Katz, a FBI detective is working to find another serial killer in this second book, while trying to keep the serial killer in her, the Tarot killer hidden. She works in both worlds. Privately, she works to find her next victim as the Tarot Killer, and publicly as her FBI detective since there are girls who are going missing and found murdered in the most horrible ways. I hope there will be more of the series.

Holy smokes a thriller that is just fire. Fast paced, terror inducing. I LOVE these characters. This one is gruesome and terrifying and there are moments you literally hold your breath. A different level of fear. This author is no holds barred when it comes to horror.
One wild ride. You won’t be able to put this one down!

Overall, "Edge of Your Seat Suspense" in the second book in the Detective Beth Katz series by D.K. Hood.

From start to finish, the tension in the plot is palpable and will keep you hooked. If you're a fan of crime thrillers, then D.K. Hood's work is definitely worth checking out! I am loving this new series!

In this second book of the series, a new and particularly depraved serial killer who has gone undetected for a long time, is now on the radar of FBI agents Katz and Styles after a local woman goes missing and the Sherriff calls them in for support. On the discovery of the gruesome crime scene, ME Wolf and his team speak for the victim, providing further insights into the heinous acts committed by this serial killer, this was definitely not his first kill.

Heading undercover, Beth demonstrates her talents as a chameleon, through her make-up artistry and disguises but this assignment will require her to put her trust in her new team to have her back if she is to catch and survive this predator.

The Tarot Card Killer, is also on a mission, tracking another killer whose victim rate is high, but will this be the one predator she can't bring down? Will this be the end for the TCK?

This book, once again brings in characters from the Kane and Alton series, including Wolf and his team as well as Agents Wells and Carter. I enjoyed watching the changes in Beth as she starts to build a real friendship with Dax, feeling for the first time what it is like to have someone genuinely care about you.

If you are a fan of D.K Hoods other work, you will love this new series.

Shadow Angel
. special agent Beth katz book 2
A great addition to the Beth Katz series.
Someone is killing women and posing them in their homes, stitched tightly to a settee, with garish make up and a creepy smile..... why???
Beth is still hiding her secret, but will she slip up? Styles and Katz make a great team, i love the dynamics between them, but is styles getting a bit close for comfort? I was hooked as i was in book 1, kept me guessing, there were tense moments, it was slightly eerie. Highley recommend. I do hope there will be a special Agent Beth katz book 3? It gets 5🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 from me.

"Dark Whispers," the second installment in an ongoing series, brings readers back into the world of FBI agent Beth Katz as she tackles another chilling case involving serial killers. The author maintains the same atmospheric writing style that successfully paints a vivid picture of the dark and eerie setting.

The story kicks off with a suspenseful scene, and the initial mystery of the young woman in the cabin and the circling crows is intriguing. The concept of Beth Katz as a determined and unorthodox FBI agent remains a central element, and her partnership with Dax Styles adds layers to their interactions.

However, the book's plot structure and pacing leave something to be desired. The narrative occasionally feels disjointed, with moments of excitement followed by periods of slower development. The mystery itself is engaging, but it often seems to take a backseat to Beth's personal struggles and her obsession with serving justice in her own way. While character development can enhance a story, in this case, it occasionally detracts from the main plot's momentum.

The use of the dark web and an undercover operation adds a contemporary and relevant element to the story, but the execution falls somewhat flat. The clues and leads that Beth uncovers feel contrived and convenient, which diminishes the tension and realism of the investigation. Additionally, the resolution of the mystery is predictable and lacks the impact that a well-crafted twist would provide.

The character of Beth Katz, while intriguing, can also be a bit annoying. Her unwavering determination and vigilante tendencies make her a unique protagonist, but her internal struggles and personal conflicts are somewhat repetitive and could use further exploration to add depth.

This is the second book and I will probably try one more to see if I can love it as much as I do Ms Hood’s Kane and Alton series. Thanks to the author, publisher and Netgalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review

D.K. Hood's Shadow Angel - the second in her Beth Katz Series - brings the FBI agent and her partner, Dax Styles, front and center. They are called into investigate a missing dancer from a gentleman's club. Filled with great dialogue and fabulous characters - and familiar faces from D.K. Hood's Kane and Alton Series - this book again delivers a face paced and satisfying mystery. In the background, there's the hunt for the Tarot Card killer, who struck again. Of note, the author's books always have an excellent eating establishment.... I would love one of TJ's steaks and pieces of pie! Thank you to Bookouture for an advanced reader of this book - the opinion's expressed are my own.

Another excellent read in this the new Beth Katz series.
I was very lucky to be able to read this immediately after finishing the first in the series, Dark Angel and I enjoyed this even more than I did that.
A great main plot centring around the abduction and (very grisly) murders of dancers from gentlemen’s clubs, coupled with the excellent subplot of the Tarot Killer. The character development is excellent and we get to see a slightly softer side to Beth. I love the way her relationship with Styles is evolving. Nice again to see appearances by some of the characters from the Kane & Alton series again too.
This is shaping up to be another ‘must-read’ series from this very talented author.

I was so excited to be able to read the second book in the new series of FBI Agents Beth Katz and Dax Styles. Thank you Netgalley for this privilege! I was hooked after the first few pages. This addictive series is another 5 Star rating for DK Hood!
As a serial killer is stalking in and around Rattlesnake Creek, Agent Beth is on high alert.
Bone-chilling and filled with suspense kept me turning the pages long after bedtime! I am anxiously awaiting the next book to see what the Agents do next!

I’m warming more to Beth’s character in this book and am enjoying the friendship between her and Styles, but I hope that they don’t become romantically involved as I feel it would ruin the type of person Beth us and what her true personality is.. There is a conflict between the two sides of Beth and Styles trying to find the Tarot Killer is going to be an interesting storyline.

This book is very well written, very easy to read and highly entertaining. The characters are fantastic, and the main character is a smart and strong woman that I like reading about. There are some grotesque scenes, so beware. This is book 2 in the series, but can be read as a standalone.
