D.K. Hood's Shadow Angel is book two in the Beth Katz series. This captivating sequel continues to build upon the world that established a chilling atmosphere in book one. From thrilling twists and turns to a fascinating storyline, Shadow Angel does not disappoint, confirming D.K. Hood's status as a master storyteller. Beth Katz and Dax Styes are full of surprises and the plot is packed with suspense, delivering an unforgettable reading experience. It left me eagerly awaiting the next book in the series.

It's pitch black in the cabin where a young woman sits staring ahead. Her long hair hangs over her shoulders and her face is covered in makeup. She will never be able to smile again, despite the bright cherry red lipstick. Her body is cold, her death is mysterious and sudden, leaving more questions than answers. She will never feel the warmth of the sun again, her life having been suddenly and inexplicably cut short.

FBI agent Beth Katz and her partner Dax Styles sense something is amiss when they spot a group of black crows perched on top of an abandoned cabin near Rattlesnake Creek. When black crows are present, the duo knows death will follow. Moreover, they know that murderers often return to the scene of their crimes, so they worry that the abandoned cabin could house the criminal. Even though they fear the unexpected, Beth and Dax remain vigilant, determined to catch the killer before he strikes again.

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for sharing this novel with me. The book's original take on the police procedural genre makes it an intriguing read for thrill seekers. Its charismatic characters only add to the story's charm and excitement. The small town atmosphere is loveable and vibrant. I can't wait to read book 3.

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for my approval to read and review this book.

This is the second Beth Katz book. The plot is Beth, Dax and Cash are on the hunt for a serial killer of exotic dancers within the Montana county. The descriptions of the characters and locations are second to none. DK Hood writes with a sound knowledge of procedures and goes in with a no holds barred attitude with the murder scenes. Beth is an unusual herione but she does it with the best of intentions. I cannot wait to see if there will be more books in this series. I highly recommend reading this book.

Superb writing from this author, a very eye catching cover, this book will go far, 5 stars. Blindingly excellent ... This book should come with a disclaimer as once you start reading you aren’t going to want to walk away.

Exotic dancers are being abducted from gentlemen's clubs in the Rattlesnake Creek area. When their bodies are discovered they have been lewdly posed and it's clear the killer has been returning to the deposition site several times. Agent Beth Katz and her partner Dax Styles assist Sheriff Ryder in investigating. There are several suspects as the clubs are regularly frequented by workers from the local mines. Beth decides to go undercover in one of the clubs to try and catch the killer. While this investigation is going on Beth is also investigating another serial killer - Levi Jackson was previously acquitted for an assault but Beth is certain he is still using the same MO to find victims - this investigation is completely off the books though.

This is the second book in the Beth Katz series by D K Hood. Again there is crossover with the Black Rock Falls series by the same author.

Thanks to Netgalley, Bookouture and D K Hood for the ARC of this book in return for an honest review.

This is the 2nd book in the Detective Beth Katz series and it doesn’t disappoint. Beth has a secret that she has been keeping for a long time. As they hunt for the murders of exotic dancers gruesomely posed, Beth has her own agenda. She is hunting serial killers and eliminating them. This book will grab your attention from the .1st page and hold onto you til the end. The book is part of a series and I recommend the 1st book, but this could be read as a stand alone. Can’t wait for the next book in the series. This author has become a must read for me. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.

Beth Katz and Dex Styles face a serial killer of exotic dancers and Beth has her sights set on The Roadside Strangler.
We go deeper into the personalities of its characters especially Katz and Styles who seem to deepen their personal relationship which could mean a change in both of them. The rest of the characters, such as Sheriff Ryder, Nate or TJ, also seem to be taking shape along with the main characters adding another layer to this entertaining book.
Shadow Angel is the second installment in the series and it does not disappoint.
The ending leaves us with the promise of a fantastic third part that I for one can't wait to get my hands on.

I loved Beth Katz from the very first moment I 'met' her and I like her more and more.  She is fierce and feisty and not easily scared. She gladly puts herself in danger in order to catch another vicious serial killer. She does this because she knows she can count on her partner Dax Styles as well as on sheriff Chase Ryder.

Fans of the other successful series by this author with Jenna Alton and Dave Kane will have noticed something familiar in 'Dark Angel', the first book in this new series. And now in this second part the connection even becomes clearer. I always wondered if we would discover more and now it seems my wish is granted.

I love the way Beth can restrain herself even though she also likes to take out the garbage on a regular basis. There really are some disturbed and vicious people out there...

Dax and Beth seem to click more and more. They go from strangers, to colleagues, to friends. Is there more to come...?

This is another amazing book by one of my favorite authors. Please, keep them coming, because they are always such a joy to devour. 5 stars

Thank you

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review “Shadow Angel” - an eerie, suspenseful novel of murder and obsession - and the second book in the Special Agent Beth Katz series from DK Hood, author of the tremendously popular “Detectives Kane and Alton” series of thrillers.

“Pain slammed into the side of her head and she staggered, falling to her knees. The gritty sidewalk cut deep into her flesh as bright starbursts erupted in her eyes and the metallic taste of blood coated her tongue. What had happened?…”

Welcome back to Rattlesnake Creek, where Special Agent Beth Katz - a cybercrime expert and sometimes undercover specialist is settling in. Taking up where “Dark Angel” left off, Beth has now purchased herself and small cabin, which she plans of using as a getaway from the office she shares with Agent Dax Styles - her new partner - and the apartment within that building which is just a little too close for comfort to him. This will be her base for any “extracurricular activities” which may arise from her dark web research into psychopaths, child killers, pedophiles, serial murderers and other ‘garbage’ which needs taking out.

A new case is shaping up for the team when word of the disappearance of a young local exotic dancer comes to their attention, and a fellow dancer tells about Cassie Burnham’s feeling the one of the regulars at the club seemed to have malevolent intentions. At first, it plays out like just another transient who’s moved on to greener pastures, but then her belongings are discovered nearby the club, and later on further away.

In the meantime, a different case - The Roadside Strangler - has captured the attention of Beth’s ‘dark side’. Levi Jackson was accused of kidnapping, drugging, raping and almost killing a young woman, a woman who was drawn in by the promise of work. But when the case went to court, the evidence against him was underwhelming, thanks to a lawyer who was able to twist everything around to make it look as if she was just a disgruntled sex worker. So, he went free. But Beth Katz knows in her heart that this was not his first rodeo, and that there will be more bodies and the authorities won’t even LOOK at Jackson. Oh, but Katz will! So maybe the Tarot Killer will have to step in.

When a grisly discovery is made at an abandoned miner’s cabin - thanks to the habits of a murder of crows (they’re obviously called that for a good reason), and shortly after, another, Katz and Styles, with the able assistance of Sheriff Cash Ryder, decide that a good old fashioned sting is in order.

Having proven - for the most part - that she is quite able to hold her own when investigating, questioning and interrogating the miners who come to town to visit the strip joints, Beth decides that the best course is to go undercover and ferret out the man who’s systematically killing off the dancers (while biding her time and planning on how to deal with the other ‘case’). Much to the chagrin of Styles - but he’s convinced to go along with it - with a lot of back up.

There’s quite a bit of tension between Dax Styles and Beth Katz (and some with Sheriff Ryder), as they all find out how best work together; and Beth’s first meeting with Jo Wells, profiler extraordinaire, makes for some tense moments as well.

DK Hood is showing us early on that the alchemy involved in creating the Black Rock Falls team - Jenna Alton, Dave Kane, Shane and Emily Wolfe, et al - can strike twice. This reader can see the beginning of a ‘beautiful friendship’ between the characters in this series, even though the main character is radically different from any of the others. I cannot wait to see where we go next.

Highly recommended - get in on the ‘ground floor’ of this new series.

I was a bit overly exited getting my hands on Shadow Angel, because D.K: Hood is such a brilliant author, and I have already found a place in my heart for Katz and Styles. Yes, there, I said it. A fictional, serial killer Detective has found a place in my heart.

Beth has settled in and even got herself a cabin. remote cabins seem to be the thing in Montana, and especially serial killers love them. They are great for what they need - a place for killing, remote, and no one hardly gets to them. There is especially one that Beth is looking for...

An excellent read! I loved getting to know the team better, the characters are eccentric and simply great. How can you not fall in love with them? Do yourself a favour and read this book. In all its goriness it is just perfect!
