Jade is a teenager accused of murdering a man twice her age. Along with the therapist trying to find out whether Jade is guilty of murder or a victim of other circumstances, we travel on a journey to figure out the real story behind the murder, and Jade's family history.

Fun popcorn thriller, lots of interesting characters, fun twists and turns. Predictable at some turns, delicious surprises at others. I really enjoyed Lewis' writing and character development. Jade is a wonderful teenage character to read. Great book!

Jade Jameson is a 17 year old girl that is accused of killing a man in her father's hotel. But she claims she does not remember committing the act. Psychologist Tara Black is called in by the defense to help determine if she is telling the truth and truly has a form of amnesia regarding the event or is she just great at making people believe her. Several events unfold and Dr Black contemplates withdrawing from the case when a tragic event happens to her. But she just doesn't seem to be able to give up on this young girl and on her career. Will she find out if Jade is an innocent girl caught up in strange circumstances or a cold blooded killer?

This was a good, twisty, psychological thriller, at times a book I didn't want to put down because I needed just one more chapter. The story also incorporates different points of view and at times different timelines. That helps build the story up and definitely keeps the reader wondering what will happens next. A few twists I suspected, but they were still good ones. Overall a pretty good thriller. It was also a fairly short read, so I'm sure folks could binge in a day/weekend easily.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for this digital ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This kind of messed me up for days and I can't even explain why.
A teen girl wakes up in her father's hotel covered in blood and there is a body in front of her. She can't remember anything beyond getting a drink at the bar and wearing her mother's sequin dress.
Our protagonist is a psychologist who has been hired as an expert witness to prove the girl truly has amnesia. She is all "I have integrity" so she won't stop digging even when she is threatened.
Her lover is like "someone is going to get dead if you don't stop." And she doesn't stop and then someone gets dead.
When she gets out of the hospital she goes right back to trying to "help" this girl.

Thank you @netgallery for this ARC!

This was my first time reading a book by this author and I would say I was maybe left slightly underwhelmed.

It was a quick and easy thriller with short chapters, which is something I love. I did find that the book could have used with another read through in editing as there was some parts that I had to read multiple times because the wording didn't make sense.

The story was interesting, each chapter did leave me wanting to find out what was going to happen next but it didn't have me completely hooked. I did find myself getting drifting in and out of the book because it didn't completely hook me in.

The ending just fell flat for me, there was a lot of loose ends that didn't get tied up and left me with a lot of questions. The ending just seemed rushed and ended so abruptly that left me annoyed.

In the end I did enjoy this ARC and I would recommend it if someone was looking for a quick thriller fix!

Taken from description:
The first time I meet Jade, I can’t help but be impressed by her. Young, smart and confident, she’s everything I wish I had been at 18. But Jade isn’t any ordinary teenager – she’s accused of murdering a man twice her age. And it’s my job to find out the truth.

This book was fantastic. Evenly paced yet interesting the whole way through! An enjoyable thriller, I absolutely recommend checking this one out on or after 9/28/23! I would buy a physical copy for my shelf.

I really enjoyed this book.. This is the first book I’ve read by Luana, but I will deffo be keeping my eye out for more of her work!

It was such an easy read and a great story to follow. The twist and turns just kept coming. Not at any point in this story did I guess what might have happened, and that really shocked me as I’m normally quiet good at figuring certain bits out.. Sign of a great story! Would deffo recommend to friends!

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for sending this book for review consideration.

Dnf, the plot personally wasn’t fast enough for me and didn’t keep me guessing. I was really excited about this book but after I got 30% into it and the plot did not pick up I had to stop. Honestly, I was hoping for more of a fast-paced thriller because personally, that is more my style.

Tara is a respected Psychologist who suddenly finds herself entangled in a murder case, revolving around 17 year old Jade and a crime she does not remember committing. Tara begins to delve deeply into Jade Jameson's life and can't seem to help herself from wanting to know more about the family.

I did enjoy reading this, however it was rather slow getting into it. I also thought it was interesting at how Tara could reflect her own life experiences with Jade's but thought it was a missed opportunity from the author as they didn't go in to more detail in regards to this.

The characters were not exactly likeable and Tara also had moments where I needed her to think her thoughts over, as she was beginning to get frustrating with her actions,.BUT overall it was a decent read, I just hoped there would have been more to the ending as I left feeling underwhelmed when it was over.

Rating: 3/5 stars

Release date: September 28, 2023

Blurb: Tara a psychologist takes on jade who is being accused of murdering a man who was twice her age. An innocent young girl? Or a dangerous killer? As Jade begins opening up/talking to Tara her family stops the sessions. What is the secret someone is trying to stop from coming out?

Thoughts: I thought this was a gripping fast paced thriller and had twist and turns throughout the book. This is my first book I've ever read by Luana Lewis and it won't be the last book I read by her. I absolutely enjoyed this book. It took me a while to even decided to read this book as I was going through a reading slump. I'm so glad I picked up this book because my reading slump is gone. Im usually the person to guess everything that happens in a book, but this is one of those books that I didn't see things coming. Usually throughout the book I will know the entire ending but this book kept me on my feet guessing. Every time I went to put this book down I wanted to pick it right back up. I just had to finish this book. I absolutely loved all the characters. I thought the way this book was written was amazing. I loved the writing style that was used. I found myself very invested in this book. It had me hooked to the very end. I will say I did rate it a 3/5 stars because I had a few unanswered questions and that it was a little rushed in the end. I thought it was a very quick and easy read. This book was similarly set up the way Lucinda berry writes her books in the aspect of it being a dark thriller with psychologist. It also had dark topics that were covered such as child abuse, drug abuse, talk of suicide, abandonment/foster care, and talk of drug overdose. I would definitely recommend this book. If you look deeper into the book you could see the affects child abuse etc could possibly change a child. I thought that it was beautifully written.

Title: The Perfect Patient
Author: Luana Lewis
Publisher: Bookouture
Genre: Mystery Thriller
Pub Date: September 28, 2023
My Rating: 3 Stars
Pages: 314

Jade Jameson is seventeen years old and wakes up one morning in the Red Suite at the Onyx Hotel. The hotel is run by her father but she cannot remember why she is there. To make things worst there is dead man on the floor. The man is Carl Ress who is near forty and has been stabbed eleven times.

Dr. Tara Black a clinical psychologist is brought into Jade’s case, to see if her amnesia is real.

This slight, sweet girl doesn’t seem like someone who could stab a man eleven times – nor does she like someone who would have a strange man in her hotel room.
What happened that night, and did Jade’s family have anything to do with it?

Awww I so wanted to love this story and I did like it but it wasn’t the great read I was expecting.

I did enjoy reading Luana Lewis’s
‘A Letter from Luana’
(BTW: I totally love when authors offer the inside scoop as to why they wrote the story!)
Ms. Lewis tells us that she was a clinical psychologist for twenty years and like Tara took on medico-legal cases .She worked with families where the children were abused and/or neglected, Society indeed had failed to protect them thus the idea for the fictional “The Perfect Patient” began.

Thank NetGalley and Bookouture for this early eGalley.
Publishing Release Date scheduled for September 28, 2023.

My first from this author, but not my last! A young girl claiming amnesia after waking up in a hotel room with a dead man, a father in denial, and a psychologist with a history of her own, this psychological thriller had me hooked from the beginning. There was wonderful character development and I found myself becoming emotionally invested in certain storylines at times. The only reason I could not give a 5 is because the story left me with a few loose ends that I am sad I will never find the answers too. I will be recommending this book to friends, and can’t wait to read another from this author.

A book that has it all- great characters that develop, twists and turns and a great story! It's a story that keeps you guessing until the very last page.

This was such a great psychological thriller that I guzzled down in two days! I absolutely loved it and have already recommended it to friends when it is available. I had no idea how it was going to unfold and was hooked pretty much within the first 5 chapters. The characters had me feeling all the feelings and I was dying for Tara to find out the truth. I am however, disappointed that throughout her journey helping Jade she did not find out the truth about her past. I would recommend this to anyone who loves who-done-it like books and easy reads!

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for access to this ARC.

This story had it all- good character development, an intriguing story, unexpected twists. I kept trying to figure out what exactly had happened and never would have guessed. I do feel like there were a few loose threads that hadn't been cleared up at the end, but overall really good book.

Jade wakes up confused in a hotel room. As she gets out of bed, she finds a dead man on the floor. Dr. Black is brought in to assist with the case and evaluate/interview Jade. Jade’s father is proving to be difficult. Did jade do it?

I loved the idea of this book. However, this books was a very slow burn. If you love a slow burn mystery, I think you’d like this book!

The Perfect Patient was a really interesting read! I loved the psychology aspect of this book and how the main suspect has dissociative identity disorder. The way that the main character via meetings with the suspect, helps the reader see how DID came to present itself in the suspect. I wasn't 100% sure how much I enjoyed the ending because it left things kind of open. However, if this means another book following Tara is in the future count me in! I will be posting my review on Instagram in 2 weeks time!

Clinical psychologist Tara Black is supposed to interview and report on the mental condition of Jade, a young woman who claims amnesia after being found in a hotel room with a dead man who had been stabbed multiple times.

Tara has her own memories of trauma and amnesia from years back, so is able to relate to Jade, who may or may not be truly amnesiac.

There are multiple stories in this suspense thriller, and many crimes besides Jade's which need to be solved. However, the ending of the novel came abruptly with many of the issues not resolved, left up in the air, with a perhaps and a wish. One crime is solved and confessed to, but another is left open though we know the culprit. One missing person who may or may not have committed a heinous crime is left missing.

It was a good read until the surprise - an abrupt and inconclusive ending. I would give this four stars but am inclined to three stars because of the ending.

Well, for me personally this story is the perfect example of why I love psychological thrillers. This one kept me hooked from the very first page till the end. This read keeps you invested and guessing throughout the whole story. It starts with a very intriguing prologue continuing with a lot of secrets to unravel and a charged atmosphere which gives you the feeling not to know who to trust and nescience about the next move.

Both Tara and Jade are troubled women with a haunting past. Maybe that’s why Tara is so invested in getting answers for Jade but her own traumatic past also catches up with her and her payback for this is big with unseen twists I liked a lot!

Abuse of power is a big central theme in this story as Jades family is very wealthy and uses their connections to keep everything under wraps. Which makes them dangerous and addictive at the same time which causes a very interesting dynamic between all the characters in the story.

Literally everyone and everything is connected at the end, like a big well woven spider web which makes your jaw drop a few times (just how I like it!!). But unfortunately there were a few unanswered and important questions for me, mainly about Tara. It would have been nice If her personality had a bit more depth and clarity because now it really feels a bit unfinished for me, so a sequel would be perfect.

As a debut story, a real sensation to read.

Thank you @netgalley & @bookouture for this ARC.
