Thank you to the author, bookouture and NetGalley for an ARC.

⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

3.5 stars rounded down to 3 attributable to the unsatisfying ending

Dr Tara Black, a practicing clinical psychologist in London who has just ventured out on her own to build her own practice is retained to evaluate a 17 yr old girl, Jade who has been arrested for a grisly murder. However, jade the daughter of a wealthy family of dubious character claims to have no memory of the crime.

Dr black observes parallels in her past to jades present. Should one with secrets of their own delve so deeply into the secrets of others? Is jade innocent or a calculated killer? Does Dr black want to risk everything to help this girl even when it means going against the girls controlling, powerful father?

Mental health along with the still conflicting treatment and prognosis is delved into in this thriller. Falling into the story is easy it’s moves along pretty quickly. Maybe sometimes too quickly. I would have liked a bit more time spent on the past before merging past and present together.

The ending was…unfulfilling. Too much left unanswered. Perhaps the author is anticipating a series?

Although a solid read, there were missed opportunities to make it a 5 star

I'd like to thank NetGalley for providing me with the opportunity to read this book.

This one was gripping! It wasn't even strictly a who-done-it, but rather what secrets are being kept between all the characters that eventually culminate in the act of murder. Just when you think you've probably got it all worked out, there's more information that will throw you in a completely different way. I will say, I only found the ending somewhat satisfying, and it seemed like it was left open for the possibility of a sequel in the future. I would love to hear more about what happens to Jade in the future, as well as the complete backstory for Tara.

The beginning for me was a slow start but it did pick up with some twists! It was fast paced and enjoyed reading it!

I almost didn’t finish this book because it’s written in third person, but I’m so glad I pushed through.

Holy crap! The twists and turns. The character development. The bits and pieces of information that come at just the right moment. Holy. Crap.

My mind is still reeling just trying to process it all, and that’s the result of an amazing book!

Thank you for the opportunity to read this ARC! This book gave me “Parent Trap” and “The Orphan” vibes. I enjoyed the twists however some of the storyline was unrealistic and felt a little forced. I felt like I was reading a Disney script during some of the chapters. I really enjoyed the relationship Paige and Will shared but was left wanting more character development!

Overall, it kept me entertained and I enjoyed reading it!

This was an easy and fast paced read
I just feel like it felt flat. A lot happens and the characters are interesting. I just felt like it was missing something. I’m glad I read it. Tara is an interesting main character and her past is just as interesting as her present. You root for Jade even if you don’t know what to think of her.

Overall, a good read

A medical thriller that would leave you questioning the existence of humanity. I highly recommend this book if you are a beginner in reading and want to explore this genre. Kudos!

This is a real slow burner, but it's worth sticking with. The story builds suspense and at times I wasn't sure where ti was going. Once I got into it, it really picked up the pace. A good read overall, thank you for the chance to review this title.

I love when I can get my hands on a psychological thriller! Being a psychology major, it made this book even more interesting to me. At first, it did not cross me that Jade might suffer from a disorder, just that her parents were trying to protect and cover for her since she was being charged for murder. That is until towards the end of the book! I couldn't stop reading! The secrets that the family had that Dr. Tara Black uncovered, wow! I would like to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for the ADC of The Perfect Patient. If Luana Lewis writes a sequel, I am all in!

This book was so good! I had an idea from the beginning where it was going but it still kept me interested. I found myself audibly gasping a few times in the book so much so that people around me were concerned. This book kept me guessing throughout, was well written, and even though I had an idea about where it was going still shocked me In the end.

Dr. Tara Black, a psychologist, must interview a 17 year old girl, Jade, who was found dazed with no memory in a hotel room with a dead man. He was stabbed 11 times and Jade is covered in blood. Dr. The girl's family isn't going to make it easy for her.

The book is a slow burn. Very slow. Although parts were intriguing, it was too slow for me. If it wasn't for wanting to absolutely know the ending, I maybe would have DNF this book. I'd have to say the 2nd half of the book get's better.

Thanks to Net Galley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I started reading this book around 3pm and couldn’t put it down until I finished it around 10pm. I really enjoyed it and thought the flashbacks of ‘Ruby’ brought the story together nicely. Would definitely recommend!

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC.

A slow burn with lots of twists, some you may see coming but lots you won't! I agree with another reviewer that it did seem to end abruptly - a part two coming maybe? If so I would definitely be intrigued to see what happens next.

I love psychological thrillers. One year, when I was studying there was a psychology course too and I found this extremely interesting. Delving around in someone's mind is very delicate and you never know what you will find. Most people's are, I suppose rather straightforward, but I can imagine some are a lot more complex to understand.

I was fascinated by this story from the very beginning, reading like a lunatic because I was so anxious to find out what had happened in that room.

Little by little the truth is surfacing and the author starts to bombard you with twist after twist after twist.

I liked Dr Black. She fights for her patient through thick and thin.

Am I mistaken or is there room for a part two? I would not mind that at all. :)

Manipulation, secrets, murder are all included in this amazing book. I just loved it. 5 stars

Thank you

This book was very good. I definitely could of finished it in one day but I didn’t want it to end so I took my time. Each time I turned the page, I didn’t know what to expect. Dr Tara Black has to determine what happened with Jade and the night she allegedly killed a man. Not only does jade have some secrets but her parents and Tara have some as well. There were so many twists and turns. Thank you NetGalley, Luana and Bookouture for the ARC!

I thoroughly enjoyed this absorbing mystery thriller. Some twists and turns that I did not predict and the author's in depth knowledge of psychology is apparent, which makes this stand out from the many psychological thrillers that are around. I can see this being made into a great tv drama. Thank you to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for the advance review copy.

Among the masterfully crafted characters, Luana Lewis' expertise in psychology adds a unique layer of depth to her crime thriller books. With two decades of experience in medico-legal cases and family interactions, her approach stands out for its authenticity and originality. Unlike other authors who might rush for pace, Lewis's narrative takes on a more deliberate and compassionate stride, allowing her characters, like Dr. Tara Black, to unfold naturally. In her latest work, "The Red Suite at the Onyx Hotel," the intriguing case revolves around a 17-year-old girl accused of a shocking murder.

The investigation into this mysterious incident instantly gripped my attention. As tensions escalated and the Jamesons' strategies came into play, I found myself fully engaged for the duration. The narrative's ability to provoke a range of emotions and introduce unexpected twists kept me captivated, while cleverly misleading clues constantly kept me guessing. The complex web of secrets woven by the Jamesons was particularly enticing, driving my desire to uncover the truth.

While the focal point rested on the enigmatic Jade, I found myself equally intrigued by Dr. Tara Black, the clinical psychologist serving as an expert witness for the defense. Black's private practice and her own intriguing backstory added layers of tension that enriched the overall narrative. The exploration of using psychedelics to access repressed memories provided a thought-provoking angle, leaving me questioning whether the client's actions were rooted in traumatic amnesia or something more complex.

This murder mystery, entwined with a high-net-worth, high-profile family, promises an engaging and absorbing read. My discovery of this book was courtesy of Bookouture and NetGalley, and while I received it as a gift, I'm offering this review without any obligation. #ThePerfectPatient #NetGalley

Dr. Tara Black must review the medical case of Jade Jameson, and determine whether she truly has no memory of fatally stabbing a man eleven times. While the book was intriguing and had lots of unexpected turns, it was an extremely slow burn and it ended abruptly. Assuming there may be a book 2 but honestly, I’m not sure how a second book would flow from the first. I enjoyed the plot twists but felt like there were parts that were left untold.

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC!

Which one of these masterfully crafted characters is the perfect patient? Why?

Luana Lewis’ psychology training has enabled her to get a close-up view of human nature in all its facets, making her crime thriller books extremely readable.

Lewis’ twenty-year career taking on medico-legal cases and working with families brought a fresh perspective to this genre and I believe that making the effort to adhere to confidentiality has created originality and authenticity. I could see places where other authors would race ahead to increase the pace and noted that Lewis’ ‘listening’ training took over the plot; she utilized silence and compassion in allowing her client to share and propel the plot. Where other reviewers saw repetition, I noted that Lewis was allowing space for Dr. Tara Black to uncover the acute crisis.

In short, a 17-year-old girl with no history of violence and no apparent mental health problems has allegedly killed a man she’d never met - a man who police found mortally stabbed eleven times in her hotel suite - a man more than double her age.

The investigation into what really happened in The Red Suite at the Onyx Hotel grabbed my attention and as the tension ramped up with the Jamesons’ tactics, I knew I was in for the long haul. I loved the twists and the variety of emotional responses initiated by the story. The well-planted misleading clues kept my mind reeling and I needed to find out for myself what the Jamesons were hiding.

Although the focus was on 17-year-old Jade, I was fascinated with the expert witness for the defense team, clinical psychologist, Dr. Tara Black. I loved the tension that branching out in private practice added to the story and was invested in knowing how Black’s past would be worked into the plot.

The implications of using psychedelics to recover traumatic memories were fascinating. Was the client suffering from a form of traumatic amnesia or was it something else?

This murder mystery involving a high-net-worth, high-profile family is one you’ll want to investigate!
