Dr. Tara Black, a psychologist, must interview Jade, a 17 year old girl who was found dazed with no memory in a hotel room with a dead man. He was stabbed 11 times and Jade is covered in blood. Dr. Tara Black finds herself mixed up with Jades very wealthy family who will do anything to prove Jade has no memory of her crime.

The book is a slow burn. Very slow. Although parts were intriguing, it was too slow for me. However, it was well written and had lots of twists thrown in. Tara Black is trying to determine if Jade truly has no memory, has a memory and is faking, or if Jade was framed. Dr. Black is full of her own secrets and her own past which resembles Jades. Jades father will do literally anything to stop Dr. Black from investigating further.

Besides for the slow burn, I had a difficult time relating to any of the characters in the book. To me, they were all unlikable. Even Dr. Black was annoying to me because she made some awfully silly decisions. Such as taking a drink of something she knew was laced with drugs. The book ends with the notion that there will be a part 2. I'm not sure how I feel about that. I think it all could have been cleanly wrapped up in one book.

I did like this authors writing style and will examine some of her other books. Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC. I greatly appreciate it. I do recommend this book as long as you don't mind slow reads.

The perfect patient - Just like a movie. Like if a book sucked you in like a Hallmark movie but as a thriller instead of a romance. You know exactly what you’re going to get but not really. Relatable characters, an engaging story and twists you’ll never predict no matter how good you are at it. And always the one final twist that you really didn’t see coming.
Grab this one or any of the author’s books at curl up and enjoy the wild ride. You won’t be disappointed.

Dr. Tara Black must evaluate a young teenage murder suspect who claims amnesia, but the girl's family and her own past are not going to make it easy for her.
It is one of those books that develops slowly but keeps you intrigued and reading with some not too unexpected twists, perhaps the result of being an avid reader of thrillers. That doesn't mean that I didn't like the book, but I was a little disappointed to see a couple of plot points unresolved. Maybe Luana Lewis is preparing a second part? If so, I'm clearly in.

A teenage girl involved in a killing? Was she framed? Did she actually do it? Dr. Tara was there to find out.

This book is full of a twisted family, some crazy investigating, and some deaths. The crazy part? It revolves around a 17 year old girl!

I was hooked from the very first page and had to read it all to find out what happened and let me tell you- I would love to know more. The book ended on the perfect spot to start up another book.

Not only that, the twist was PERFECT. I could not pin point what would happen and, as a avid thriller reader, was quiet suprised to find out what the twist was.

This wasn't the paciest of books that I have read but as a psychologist I enjoyed that aspect to it. there were some good twists, a solid ending, with perhaps the opportunity for another book. Worth a read.

I absolutely loved the perfect patient by Luana Lewis. Excellent gripping thriller which had me glued to my kindle. There was so many red herrings that I couldn’t guess what was going to happen next. I really enjoyed the written style felt it helped build the intrigue in the book. Highly recommended. Will be looking out for more books from this author as this was fantastic.

This book started off a little slow for me, but I loved all the unexpected twists. There were a few that I saw coming, but little twists throughout that I wasn’t expecting. I thought it wrapped up really nicely and could definitely see a sequel.

Thanks to Bookouture for the ARC!

A young woman is found dazed in a hotel room, next to the stabbed body of a man she has no recollection of meeting. Jade Jameson is referred to therapist Dr Tara Black, who comes up against a brick ball as Jade and her wealthy parents constantly dodge appointments and stonewall her.
Later, as she starts to make progress through her own investigations, she becomes scared for her life as it seems Ray Jameson will do anything to silence her at Jade's trial.
This is Luana Lewis's debut novel and I love how her experience as a clinical psychologist imbues her words with authority and knowledge. She brings a new and different perspective to the psychological thriller. Lewis says she worked with families were children suffered abuse and neglect, and where society failed to protect the most vulnerable. This is where the idea for The Perfect Patient came from.
I was fully engaged throughout, and the two major twists were so worth it. The ending made a shiver run up my spine.
Another 5 star review for the Bookouture stable: publishers who really understand the twist!

I really enjoyed this book for the most part. The only thing that i can say in terms of "negatives" is I still had questions at the end. So I'm unsure if there is going to be a part two or I missed something, but I have questions lol I usually dont like third person narration but even that was pretty good. I liked the written style and story line. Sometimes the multiple stories were a little confusing but that might just be me. Definitely worth a read.

Loved this book! She knocked it out the park with her debut thriller! Tara has so much in her past, which I think helps her to be a better psychiatrist. The way the author wrote this book was amazing. Great hook in the beginning, followed by little tidbits along the way with different characters. Nothing in this book was dull. It kept me hooked the entire time and kept me guessing. Luana obviously knew the background and used it to tell a very interesting story. The ending wasn't a huge shock but I def did not guess how it ended. If you like thrillers, this is for you!

This book started off so strong, the prologue instantly drew me in. This was a fast paced psychological thriller, and for the first half of the book I could not put it down. There were enough truth bombs sprinkled through out to keep me reading. I was interested in Tara's story and trying to see whether or not she would be able to make Jade remember what went on in the hotel room. I was very interested to see how the Jameson's family dynamics were going to play out and how this all led to the death of Carl.

*Potential spoilers ahead*
Some of my critiques of the book is that there were one too many back stories to keep track of that I thought hindered from the overall plot. For example, we have Tara's back story of what happened with her family being murdered and then her brother, then her affair with Daniel and his family, then the Jameson's family backstory with the sister, the ex wife, the half sibling. It was all too much for a fast paced thriller. I felt like all of this really bogged down the book. I think the story would have read much better without Tara's backstory.
At the halfway point in the story I started to lose interest in the main plot, which was finding out Jades memory of that night in the hotel room. Then after the 75% mark we get one too many big twists, to the point it felt like the author was throwing everything and the kitchen sink into this story. I wish we would have picked one twist and just executed it flawlessly. Personally I would have left out the Ruby twist. It did not feel needed.

Overall I really enjoyed this authors writing, and it was enough to keep me intrigued enough to keep reading. I would be interested to see how this author progresses in her writing journey and would read from her again.

If you like thrillers filled with a lot of character backstory and twists and turns then this book is for you.

My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

Jade woke up in a hotel room with a dead man and no memories. It’s Dr. Tara Black’s job to assess Jade, determine if her amnesia is genuine and if there is a way to recover her memories. But it seems like no one wants Jade to remember. The closer Dr. Black gets to the truth, the more intent the people around Jade are on keeping her from doing her job. It doesn’t help that the circumstances of this case hit a little too close to home for Dr. Black. There are things she can’t remember either. Is helping Jade worth facing the current and past threats that are looming over her?

This one was right on the edge of 5 stars for me. The only thing that kept me from giving it that last .5 was that I had wanted a little more of the story from Tara’s past.
But I was gripped by this book from the start. Warning: don’t start this book when you have plans, because this is the type of book that you finish the same day you started. And even when you think you have all the answers, you’ll continue to question what’s true.

If you like books by Freida McFadden (The Housemaid) and Alice Feeney (Rock Paper Scissors) you will like The Perfect Patient.

I feel like the blurb provided for this book could be changed… It doesn’t quite match the book itself. The blurb is written from Jade’s perspective, but the book is written from Tara’s.

My review for this book will be posted on my Instagram sometime in mid-September before the pub date. I don’t have all of my content for September planned yet, but when I know the exact date I will update.

The past can be haunting. Forgetting is not an option. Realistic mysterious characters keep this book moving quickly. Red herrings kept me guessing. Is the main character a murderer? This talented author has written a page turner. Thank you Netgalley for this novel.
