This was a fast-paced, suspense thriller, with romance and faith mixed it. The two main characters work together after both experiencing signifiant loss. Lots of twists and turns!

** “If you choose to live in the past, regretting things you can’t change, it will destroy you. God is sovereign. Lamenting the past is denying his control, saying you know better than God. That’s not possible. God can fix what is ugly; you need to let him.” **

Once again Janice Cantore delivers a high-intensity thriller with “One Final Target,” a story that reminds us that “God is good, even when life isn’t.”

Still reeling from her team being killed in an explosion, Jodie King has left the Long Beach Police Department to attempt to move on and away from all that offers painful reminders. But when she’s drawn back into the fire, she must use her policing skills to figure out who seems to be after her.

San Bernardino County Sheriff Detective Sam Gresham is still recovering from his own nearly fatal experience when he’s pulled into Jodie’s case. As the two work together to solve the string of deadly events, they must both overcome their guilt over each of their own experiences and find healing and forgiveness … all while trying to stay alive.

Cantore always creates intense plots filled with twists and turns, heart-thumping action and just enough romance to curl your toes. She develops amazing characters that have real issues that readers can relate to and root for.

She also filled “One Final Target” with several great themes, like sometimes you have to just say “But God”; dealing with guilt and blame, especially survivor’s guilt; God can turn any evil into good; when you feel like there is a barrier between you and heaven; don’t stay stuck in the past or let bitterness take root; and the concept of Romans 8:28 (“It’s hard not to see God’s hand in things when everything goes well. You have to look harder whey they go sideways. Remember, God works all things out.”)

Fans of authors like Irene Hannon, Lynette Eason and Terri Blackstock will love “One Final Target,” which is due out Feb. 13.

Five stars out of five.

Readers who like fast paced suspense novels will enjoy this story. Jodie after losing her entire team when an IED explodes, retires from the police department and is consumed with survivors' guilt. Sam, after losing his partner has finally made it back to duty with the Sheriff's department when another bomb is found and it becomes clear that Josie is the target. Sam relies on his faith to carry him through his grief while Jodie is struggling with hers. Many suspects and twists and turns until the suspects are uncovered. A little predictable but enjoyable. Recommended.

Jodie and Sam are each struggling with why are they alive. Jodie lost her team in an IED explosion and Sam lost his partner is a fiery car crash. Jodie was not seriously injured. Sam received burns that left him slightly disfigured.

Jodie and Sam must work together to find out why Jodie is still being targeted. Now that Sam is trying to help her, he is now a target also.

This is a good mystery with lots of action. I did think I had it figured out who the culprit was. I was right. But the story leading up to the reveal was good. Jodie and Sam's struggles are also dealt with and the reader is given a good understanding of what they are going through.

I received this book from Tyndale House Publishing via Net/Galley in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated in any way.

This is an exciting romantic suspense. More action than romance, but feelings do develop amid the dangerous situations. Blaming God for bad things that happened was wrong in my eyes. He allows the stuff to happen, not causes it. The mystery kept me guessing. Thanks to the publisher for providing a copy via NetGalley. My review is voluntary.

I love a good fast paced suspense thriller, so was excited to read this one. I failed to realize it was Christian based, and while I am an agnostic, I usually have no problem reading books with religious references, if they aren’t too preachy. However, this book started right away with a bible reference, and I knew I was in for a doozy. I was determined because I find a lot of legitimacy and usually love books written by current and former police officers, so I kept going. Oh boy. I really couldn’t wrap my head around the references to God supporting the officers in the way that the characters were praying for them. I struggled with how many references and how strongly in my face the references to God were throughout the book and I found them to be too preachy for me. I think that had the references been toned down, I would have loved this book because it was a great story underneath. So, this is a mixed review for me. On one hand I just don’t get about half of the book, and on the other hand, I loved the other half of it. The author is clearly talented for being able to provoke such strong emotions from their audience though! The suspense was there and on point, I couldn’t wait to find out what was going on, if only I wasn’t aggravated with the characters the entire time. I do think that among certain audiences this book is going to be a huge hit, however, I do think that this book could have a much larger audience than it currently does the way it stands.

I wish I could give half stars, but I am rounding down to 3.

Thank you so much to the publisher and netgalley for allowing me to read this book.

Another fantastic romantic suspense by Janice Cantore that proves why she is one of my favorite authors!

Long Beach sergeant Jodie King takes her team to serve a warrant in San Bernardino when things go horribly wrong, and she loses her entire team in the raid. Losing her team leaves her with major guilt and grief causing her to leave the force. When she recovers, she makes her way back to the site of where it all happened and is almost killed when a sniper takes a shot at her. Detective Sam Gresham can save Jodie when he arrives seconds before the shot is fired and gets her to safety. Sam is returning to the force after recovering from his own accident and is thrown right into it as Jodie becomes the target and he must determine who is after her and why.

I have always loved the way Janice Cantore writes, her years in law enforcement gave her the expertise to write characters and plots that are believable and will make readers fly through the pages. I never find myself rolling my eyes at ridiculous plot points or characters in a Janice Cantore book, which is great. I would like to say that I figured out the twist early on, I thought I had but then when it was revealed I smiled at how it all turned out. The twist was great, and I loved how it all came together in the end, all the loose ends were tied up and I was satisfied with the story. I highly recommend this book to fans of romantic suspense and if you haven’t read a Janice Cantore book yet, you are missing out.

One Final Target by Janice Cantore is a police procedural novel filled with many twists and turns. The plot is predictable and unoriginal. Romance. Someone wanting to hurt a cop that wants to seek revenge. The difference is that Cantore used her knowledge of the inner workings of the police force to strengthen the characters’ personalities. I did enjoy getting to know the heroine and the hero. They were brave, strong, and determined. Romance is part of the plot, but honestly, just the way I like it, as a side-note. Not the entire focus of the couple. A Cantore novel is adventurous, realistic, and filled with danger. This time around, Cantore showed how computer hacking could ruin someone’s life and throw the crime scene into a world of hurt. It is scary to think of technology like this. Overall, One Final Target by Janice Cantore will capture fans’ of police procedurals and romantic suspense novels. Plenty of action just like fans of Cantore’s other stories have come to expect.

Well-written Christian Crime Fiction with a bit of romance in the mix.

Jodie King has survivor's guilt after the team of police officers she led died in an IED explosion. Not only has she quit her job but her faith in God has been shaken.

Sam Gresham is recovering from a road-side accident that killed his duty partner, Rick. Sam's faith in God has helped him deal with survivor's guilt and the burn scars to his right side from his rescue attempts.

Sam saves Jodie from a sniper attack and they team up to find the bomber and get to the reason for attacks on Jodie. The investigation was dogged with suspense and life challenges.

Definitely an author I will be reading again.

I read One Final Target by Janice Cantore and can sum it up with this wording:
What a great story.
Two cops who’ve been through the fire, one nut job (Ian), a few more police officers with iffy intentions, and the man they are after who just so happened to know how to create bombs made Cantore’s story move in a sequence of quick beats. The action was there from the start, yet it kept momentum and kept me turning the pages.
Jodie’s efforts to bridge the gap between herself and God came hurling in during crunch time. I like that the author didn’t make her faith suddenly return. God gives His hardest battles to His toughest warriors, and I felt that in this story. Jodie and Gresham came alive within the action scenes. A lot of research went into this story, and I can’t wait to read more from this author.
One Final Target is perfect for fans of whodunnits, cop procedural fiction, those who love action, and inspirational fiction.

Another hit from Janice Cantore, and it quickly became a page turner.
Someone wants Jodie dead, but whom? She was the lone survivor when her team was killed, and has been suffering their loss ever since. Enter Detective Sam Gresham, he just happens to be at the right place at the right time, and ends up saving Jodie's life. This is a faith based read, and Jodie's has been waning since the deaths, and now she knows she is a target.
The author did a great job keeping me guessing whom was the guilty, and yes, I guessed wrong.
There is a read disregard for human life, and you wonder how many people are innocently become victims. Both Sam and Jodie are suffering, can they help one another?

"One Final Target" is a Christian romantic suspense. Since Jodie was responsible for her team, she felt guilty for their deaths even though there was no way for her to anticipate what happened. Sam also second-guessed himself after his partner died in an accident, so he could understand some of what Jodie was going through and help her deal with her guilt and grief. He also found further healing through helping her. They worked well together during the intense events. The author kept me guessing about exactly who on Sam's suspect list had a personal grudge worth killing over. I thought I knew, but I also wasn't sure, so who could they really trust? The constant danger and this uncertainty created a high level of suspense.

Jodie struggled with believing God was good even when tragedy happened. There was no sex or bad language. Overall, I'd recommend this engaging, suspenseful story.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this eARC.

An important thing I overlooked when I selected this book, is that it is a Christian mystery, filled with references to God, as the characters pray for each other.

Don't get me wrong, it includes a compelling enough mystery, about someone leading a team, who feels guilty about those she has lost. . I prefer my mysteries sans other distractions such as: politics, religion, and ideally without sex or romance sidelines (this book doesn't include the sexual scenes of course).

I like pure mysteries, and I cannot even IMAGINE cops or ANY characters praying for the healing powers of God to support a fellow officer.

Definitely NOT my cuppa, I found it preachy and irritating - your mileage may very of this is the type of mystery you are searching for...

About half way through this novel I had to set it aside and move on.
