"One Final Target" is a Christian romantic suspense. Since Jodie was responsible for her team, she felt guilty for their deaths even though there was no way for her to anticipate what happened. Sam also second-guessed himself after his partner died in an accident, so he could understand some of what Jodie was going through and help her deal with her guilt and grief. He also found further healing through helping her. They worked well together during the intense events. The author kept me guessing about exactly who on Sam's suspect list had a personal grudge worth killing over. I thought I knew, but I also wasn't sure, so who could they really trust? The constant danger and this uncertainty created a high level of suspense.
Jodie struggled with believing God was good even when tragedy happened. There was no sex or bad language. Overall, I'd recommend this engaging, suspenseful story.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this eARC.
An important thing I overlooked when I selected this book, is that it is a Christian mystery, filled with references to God, as the characters pray for each other.
Don't get me wrong, it includes a compelling enough mystery, about someone leading a team, who feels guilty about those she has lost. . I prefer my mysteries sans other distractions such as: politics, religion, and ideally without sex or romance sidelines (this book doesn't include the sexual scenes of course).
I like pure mysteries, and I cannot even IMAGINE cops or ANY characters praying for the healing powers of God to support a fellow officer.
Definitely NOT my cuppa, I found it preachy and irritating - your mileage may very of this is the type of mystery you are searching for...
About half way through this novel I had to set it aside and move on.

ONE FINAL TARGET by JANICE CANTORE is a wonderfully exciting read which will keep you guessing right to the end! I cannot recommend the novel highly enough, especially for the strong Christian message ; for example, when Detective Sam Gresham, who has been through a similar experience to Sergeant Jodi King, answers her many “why” questions about God with, “God is good….even when life isn’.” He himself carries guilt over his partner’s dearh and is therefore in a position to help the young sergeant who is riddled with guilt after being the only one in her RAT team to survive an explosive that destroys drug dealer Norman Hayes’ cabin when they are about to take him into custody. In fact, Jodie calls Sam her “guardian angel” as he seems to always be at the right place just in time to save her life…..
I am not going to tell you any more for fear of spoiling things fo you.
I was given a free copy of the book by NetGalley from Tyndale House Publishers. The opinions in this review are completely my own.

A former police officer cannot stop blaming herself for the death of her team in a sabotaged raid. With the help of friends and another, good looking police officer who has gone through a similar tragedy, she finds her way back to God and solves a complex puzzle. While I enjoyed this story, and the fast paced action, the writing itself seemed about junior high level. I appreciate more linguistic complexity and having to look up a word here and there.

5 stars

I really enjoyed this book. Jodie and Sam have both survived traumatic events in which they lost their partners. Jodie retires from the police department and finds herself still in trouble. Sam helps her with the case and trying to get her faith back. . If you like religious romantic suspense this is the book for you.
