This book was so sweet omg it had me giggling multiple times because these two were so cute and adorable.
Softhearted, gentle and charming Simeon and brilliant smart Myrtle made such a great pairing. I absolutely loved how they interacted with each other, Simeon guiding her through society and Myrtle being unapologetically herself, they truly complemented each other.

The 3rd in the series and my favorite so far, Simeon Jones is a painter who is quite handsome and also quite soft hearted. He receives a letter that he is now guardian of a sibling, who in his head is a baby. To earn money to support the child, he takes a commission for a painting.
When that goes spectacularly wrong, he is approached by Lady Myrtle Allen to let her go with him back to London, and she will pay the commission.
Lady Myrtle is a brilliant mathematician who wants nothing more than to live an independent life helping other women control their finances. She believes marriage will make her miserable for several reasons, most being she is too honest and would make a terrible wife, nor can she marry someone less intelligent.
Once in London, she finds her brother has beaten her home, but he has a proposition for her. If she will chaperone her niece for the season, he will give her money.
Myrtle turns to Simeon for help in making her way in society. Simon, who is quite fascinated by her and how her brain works, agrees.
This is a lovely romance in the Five Bastards series. 3 down, 2 to go. Can't edit for the next, which I believe will be Fenton's, as he shows up at the book club meeting in distress.
Yes, these 5 men, who grew up together in an orphanage and have remained fast friends after they were each adopted, have a book club. Even after they are meeting their matches and marrying, they remain in the book club.
I received an EARC from Netgalley and the publisher for an honest review. Thanks to them, I was able to read this lovely book, and I highly recommend it!

Simon is a poor artist who needs to make money quickly for a sister he is now responsible for. Myrtle, sick of saying no to suitors not up to her standards wants Simon to take her to London. She’ll pay him to. And a long the way a fake engagement and real feelings bloom.

This is a fun if not predictable new book in Megan Frampton’s latest series. The characters are different than typical HR’s but I didn’t like them any less. I had a good time reading this.

Thank you NetGalley and Avon for the ARC.

Megan Frampton has once again delivered in her latest book in the School for Scoundrels series. This time the book focuses on the story of Simeon who is a caring artist who needs to raise funds for a sister he recently learned about. Myrtle is wealthy and brilliant but the under the control of her brother who wants her wed when she would rather be starting her own investment business. Due to the circumstances of their meeting, they pretend to be engaged. But as you might have guessed, the sparks quickly begin to fly in this fun, steamy romance story.

Myrtle is a clever awkward mathematician. Simeon is a good looking artist who also happens to be a bastard and therefore outside society. This third installment in the School for Scoundrels series, does not quite live up to the promise of the first novel. The relationship between Myrtle and Simeon builds too quickly, goes south rapidly, then rectifies seemingly instantly. Fans of the series may enjoy the continuation, but new fans can skip this one.

Sadly, I had the same issue with Her Adventures in Temptation that I had with all the others in the School For Scoundrels series, which is that something in the couple just didn't click completely with me. The added problem was that my favorite part of this series so far has been the friendship between the five men at the center, and in this book, they barely interact at all. This was nearly saved by the late arrival of Fenton but he gets to say one sentence in total and left me wishing I was reading his book instead.

Myrtle and Simeon have a classic "fake-engagement" in order to make her respectable enough for the ton to embrace her as a chaperone for her niece who is debuting that year, while Simeon needs the funds from this scheme in order to provide for his new ward. But neither of them seem that invested in their scheme out of desperation to aid in these respective subplots, instead being invested mostly because they're already half in love with each other. There wasn't a lot of build up to their relationship and it just left me feeling uninvested.

Her Adventures in Temptation is a pretty classic rake-meets-bluestocking romance. He's an artist who feels like he has to behave perfectly at all times to overcome his bastard birth. She's a mathematics whiz who always says the first thing that comes to mind. Together, they're pure chaos and it's wonderful.

There's also a fun fake engagement element at play, plus some pining, posing for portraits, and plenty of cake. Basically, a lovely time all around. Sure, there were times when the book felt a bit circular or repetitive, but it basically ticked all my boxes when I was looking for an enjoyable and generally lighthearted historical romance!

4/5

Myrtle and Simeon are a new Frampton couple you won't want to miss! Fake engagement, enemies to lovers, it's got it all, and Lady Myrtle's fire and independence bring a nice balance to the swoon you'll feel from the couple's chemistry.

Enjoyed this book because it really dealt with a smart woman who wanted to take care of herserself and not get married because she didn’t want to be u dear her husband control.. she had had enough of being controlled by her brother who since woman could not control their own finances the were controlled by the man of the family . It was a refreshing story of those times although possibly not a very accurate story line, but it would be nice to think that possibly it did happen.

✨If you ask me if I love him, I’d lie✨

This was a super sweet addition to the School for Scoundrels series! Myrtle and Simeon understood each other so deeply, and it was extremely endearing watching them fall in love. Both main characters were extremely likable and rather lonely, which is a great combination if I do say so myself.

I will say, there was a rather gloomy cloud hanging over everything since they were both adamant on not getting married—and once they both changed their minds, they didn’t tell each other and it was obvious how the third act would play out from a mile away...

So while it wasn’t the most exciting romance I’ve read recently, I was still blown away by the quiet way they loved each other. Simon got her a dog to be her companion because she only had one friend (Simeon); he could always count on Myrtle to be honest in his world of pretty words and white lies.

They really belonged together which is honestly the most important qualification in a romance, so I couldn’t be too miffed when the plot got a bit drawn out at the end. I would’ve liked a bit more of his half sister and watching them bond as siblings/her guardian, but it was a fun little plot line as it was.

I’ll definitely be back for book four and Fenton’s tragic woes. I’d recommend reading the series in order—maybe I’m biased because book one is my favorite—but you could totally read this as a standalone!

⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/5 🌶️🌶️.75*/5

*There were a few spicy scenes, but I think their hobbies could’ve played more of a role. I just really want some nude painting! (This has been influenced by me reading a few artist romances recently with NO nude painting of the other MC! Gah!) Weaving math into it a bit more could’ve been fun as well. But Frampton writes a good sex scene, so this is just musing more than anything.

Thanks so much to the publisher for an eARC via NetGalley. All opinions are honest and my own.

This is an author I really enjoy and so is this series! I’m beyond excited I was given a copy to read early! I adored Lady Myrtle and Simeon! I liked how they really balanced each other perfectly. Myrtle loves math and wants to help ladies with their finances, not get married. She’s curvy and loves cake, she also has no filter when talking. Her brother believes she should marry, but Myrtle comes up with a plan when artist Simeon is at her family house to paint the countess. Simeon has such a big heart, easy personality, and handsome! Simeon was adopted and learned that art should always come first. When Simeon is sent a letter saying he has a ward….he knows he needs a plan and money. Myrtle plans to pay Simeon to take her London but things happen. So now Simeon is helping Myrtle navigate society as she is a chaperone to her niece. I think these two have all kinds of fire together! I really loved their story! There was also a fake engagement in there too;) I can’t wait to read the next one!

This was my first Megan Frampton, and I was really impressed! I'll definitely be reading more from her.

I loved everything about this, from the writing to the steam and the gorgeous cover. I flew through this book in less than a day!

I go back and forth on how I feel about the romance subgenre where an experienced man shows an inexperienced woman what sex is, but Her Adventures in Temptation was easily one of the better additions to the field. I thought that Myrtle and Simeon really clicked, and I also love a good intellectual heroine since so many romance heroines are less cerebral. Plus the genius woman/himbo man combo is #unparalleled when it comes to romance shenanigans.

Megan Frampton also really writes great sex scenes, even when one of the people involved is less than experienced, so it feels organic and not too fast but also is really hot from the perspective of a modern adult woman.

Anyways, I really liked this book and as always I'll be reading what Megan Frampton puts out next!

This one was just alright to me. I liked that the FMC clearly had autism or was neuro-divergent in some other way, which is a really neat change of pace for historical romance. Otherwise though, I found Frampton's writing to be sort of repetitive and starting edging towards the "not like other girls" trope.

Her Adventures in Temptation is an enchanting and passionate historical romance that captivated me, leaving an insatiable desire for more.

I am usually a big fan of Megan Frampton books, but found this one to be lacking. The plot seemed a bit over the top, though I did enjoy the banter between the main characters.

Her Adventures in Temptation started promisingly enough with a neurodivergent and financially astute heroine fleeing her older brother's attempt to marry her off. Myrtle (OMG, the name, I really, really tried but I hated that name) manages to head towards London by hijacking the portraitist hired by said brother after he is turned out before finishing because of Myrtle's amorous sister-in law. Simeon's (another terrible name because I always think simian -- not a very romantic thing to put in my head) secret is that he is soft-hearted, and he can't quite help himself from helping Myrtle. The early scenes crackle, and are quite entertaining, but it falls off the rails when after reaching London and some drama, somehow Simeon and Myrtle (and her brother) decide a false engagement is needed for Myrtle's reputation. Wait, what? Simeon is not legitimate, is an artist, and grew up in an orphanage before being adopted by a single woman. It made no sense -- he would definitely not have helped her. I know reading historical romance is always a reality stretch but between the names and this, I lost all my interest. I will divulge no more spoilers.

Sadly, despite enjoying the first chapters, I will be assigning one of my lower scores :(

I read the first book in the series, but I haven’t read the second yet however, I had no issue, jumping into the third book. This book was quite swoon worthy. I think I like the female characters less than the male characters in the series.. The female characters just have like potentially a sharpness to them that I think is potentially from some insecurities that they like personally have about not fitting in with society, that is never truly dealt with in the stories. however, the men have been great. This book was lovely watching myrtle fall in love and they both wanted to elevated the other so that they could both achieve their dreams. Thank you NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
