When Holly is jilted at the altar, her safe, planned future disappears. She is offered a role for ski season at a chalet in Verbier. Unable to ski and with little preparation, she seizes the chance and heads off to Switzerland to learn more about her passion for food and wine.
This book was far better than I expected from the cover. Well developed characters and beautifully described locations.
This is a sweet, funny, romantic book.
I loved this story. A descriptive book full of decadent food, skiing in the French alps and finding oneself after heartbreak . I kept telling myself one more chapter right up until the end of the book. I had every intention of reading this slowly but I just had to see how Holly’s story unfolded. This was such a wonderful debut. I look forward to Ms. Walker’s future works. Thank you to NetGalley for this free advanced copy. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I was just not vibing with the book. I think the pacing is slow and the fact that still at 20% she is trying to make her ex-fiancee jealous. I want the romance and from other reviews there is barely any romance.
Thank you NetGalley for the e-arc version of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
"Escape to the Swiss Chalet" by Carrie Walker is a cozy and heartwarming novel that whisks readers away to a charming Alpine retreat. The story centers on a protagonist seeking solace and healing in the breathtaking Swiss mountains. Walker's lyrical prose vividly evokes the beauty of the setting and the emotions of the characters. This tale of self-discovery, romance, and renewal captures the essence of finding love and hope in unexpected places. "Escape to the Swiss Chalet" is a delightful escape into a world of serenity and new beginnings.
Holly is a down to earth relatable character and I found ibwas always rooting for her. The setting is gorgeous and the talk if food and wine made everything wonderful. I found it refreshing how things worked with George in the end and hopeful for her new beginning. It would have been nice to have a bit more to the ending though. I wanted to know more about the adventures on the horizon. Nice and cozy christmas feelings to get November started right! Grab this one in the New Year.
Holly absolutely despises the cold. And everybody knows that. So everyone is super surprised when she packs up everything and moves to the Swiss Alps. But her heart has just been broken and she wants to prove to the guy who broke it that she's moved on. She's going to be a chef for a billionaire French twins, one of whom is handsome Luca...
If you're looking for a cute wintery romcom, this book is for you. I did not completely vibe with the writing, and sometimes I felt like there was a bit too much drama, but you should definitely give it a try if you're looking for a sweet and quick read.

I don't really know what to think about this book so I will settle on 3 stars. I didn't hate nor did I really like this book.
First of all, the sinopsis of this book sounded really good. The cover looks gorgeous. I myself love to go to Switzerland to ski from time to time so the setting and the romance were supposed to be right up my alley, but unfortunately, it wasn't so.
Some of my random thoughts:
- This book will definitely be enjoyed by anyone who loves cooking or skiing. The descriptions of these two activities are constant and in-depth.
- I would hardly categorize this book as a romance. I think the blurb is misleading and makes you search for the romance between people who are not supposed to be having a romance. I felt lied to when I reached the end of the book and everything clicked into place. Anyway, none of the romances in the book was developed enough for this to be a romance book.
- I found the owners of the chalet to be arrogant bitchy, rich people and I didn't like them at all.
- This book needs more investigation. In Europe, we do not use a.m./p.m. for time. In Switzerland they do not use the Euro, they have Swiss Frank. In Europe we do not measure temperature in Fahrenheit, we use Celcius and I am sure more things escaped my attention.
- There were mistakes in the usage of French in the book. The most basic phrase "Vive la France" was written with the wrong article.
- In my opinion, this book misrepresents French people and makes them seem to be just going around and doing naughty things.
- I didn't connect with or particularly liked any of the protagonists. The MFC was extremely suggestive and just did what she was told to even if she didn't really like it.
- I could say the found family aspect was good, but even that was spoiled by several scenes.
I wanted to like this one so much more than I did. I had so many points where I almost walked away from the book; it wasn’t until around 75% that I ended up enjoying what I was reading.
What I liked: the character growth of the FMC, Holly. I also liked the supporting characters: Rachel, David, and Xavier.
What I didn’t like: the main character. I did not like Holly, and that was part of my issue with the book. I also didn’t really like some of the other characters (Lucas and Liv). The story fell flat for me.
Thank you to NetGalley, publisher, and author for being able to read this eARC.
This one fell a little flat for me. I did enjoy the setting but at times felt like it was more forced than anything. Holly became more and more frustrating for me to understand. It was an okay read.
i really wanted to like this one more, it has a beautiful cover and blurb, but for me, it just fell flat. i did enjoy the premise and i thought it was a fun read, but i wish i personally enjoyed it more. i really wish there were a little less arrogant side characters and extremely toxic feel. i think the book could have done without him and it would have made it better.
A gorgeous story with a beautiful setting. Would recommend this easy read.
Thank you to Carrie Walker, NetGalley and Aria & Aries –Aria for the arc of this book.
I really enjoyed Escape to the Swiss Chalet, the debut novel from Carrie Walker. Holly despises the cold weather, but when she experiences heartbreak of the worst kind, she finds herself in the Swiss Alps working as a sous chef for wealthy twins Genevieve and Luca. She’s completely out of her comfort zone but with new friends Liv and Xavier, there’s plenty of time for fun, fondue and speed ski. A great winter read perfect for cosying up by the fire with a hot chocolate. Thank you to NetGalley, Aria and Aries and the author for the chance to review.
I really like the cover of this beautiful book! I want to go there..
Holly absolutely despises the cold and everyone knows it. So when she packs her bags to move to the Swiss Alps everyone is surprised, including herself. But after a heartbreak, it’s exactly what she needs. Where she is going is the home of billionaires and she feels out of place. Luckily, she makes new friends Liv and Xavier and they show her the ropes in the new and cold place. And then there’s Luca, handsome and rich but where’s the catch?
Escape to the Swiss Chalet was a nice, fast, and light read. There’s drama and romance, all things enjoyable in a romantic comedy. If you’re looking for something sweet, this will hit the spot.
Thank you NetGalley and Aria & Aries for the ARC and the chance to read and review it honestly.
despite the setting and imagery in this novel being nothing short of magic, the romance under-delivered in the form of a second guessing female character, who I so badly wanted to root for. would love to have seen more character development, and less communication for an otherwise fun winter apres ski theme book!
Holly hates the cold so everyone is surprised when she moves to the Swiss Alps to work in a chalet. She's working for twins Genevieve and Luca
What a great setting for this sweet and enjoyable book. Full of snow capped mountains, leaving her past life and losses behind and starting fresh, this is a book that will make you smile.
Holly Roberts is a great character and one I liked and enjoyed. She is a woman with courage to leave heartache behind and I can relate. The story is sweet and easy to follow, fun and entertaining and you can just picture being in such a beautiful place.
I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it. I came away feeling all warm and cosy.
Thank you NetGalley and Aria & Aries for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.
Unfortunately this was not the book for me.
I appreciated the back story with the ex fiance at the beginning but I found it a very slow read.
The situationship with Xavier also made me really uncomfortable and I could not bring myself to like Luca at all.
Also, there was a moment in the book where Xavier and Luca compete in a jump competition and Luca donates his 300 euros voucher and Holly says that it is worth 2 months' wages in that area....I find it extremely hard to believe that in Switzerland a person earns 150 euros per month...maybe I misunderstood it but a little bit of more research would be very useful.
I am afraid that this was not a book for me. It should have been right up my alley but it fell so short for me.
We meet Holly in the months before she is due to get married, that deosn't happen and she is given the opportunity to go to Verbier for the winter, to work as a sous chef for a wealthy pair of siblings. She goes and makes friends with the chef and chalet maid also working at the chalet.
The male sibling really annoyed me, he was an arrogant, pushy wealthy man who thought that Holly was his personal play thing. There were situations where I was internally screaming at Holly to get away from him. His antics annoyed me so mch that I skipped a number of chapters.
Then there was the situation that Xavier the chef was in.
For me not a good read.
Holly Roberts has her future mapped out, so no one is more surprised than her when she’s jilted at the altar on her wedding day. As she hibernates in the aftermath under a duvet at her parents’ house, she accepts a job offer to become a sous chef for the ski season in Verbier, Switzerland, the winter wonderland of the ultra-rich.
Holly is wholly unprepared for her move. She doesn’t know how to ski, and she doesn’t even have any warm winter clothes, instead opting to use a vintage pair of salopettes last used by her aunt decades ago. But worst of all, she hates the cold. Will this drastic move be the thing she needs to do to put her life back together again?
Escape to the Swiss Chalet by Carrie Walker shows how Holly attempts to do just that. This charming romantic comedy, Walker’s debut novel, ticks all the boxes. Sympathetic protagonist? Check. A love interest or two? Check. A dastardly ex? Check. Delightful locations? Check.
Since Holly is working as a sous chef and a sommelier, much of the attention focuses around food—runny raclette, crunchy croissants, magnificent macarons. The luscious descriptions were enough to make my stomach rumble multiple times. Likewise, the luxury location, with its ski-in chalets, wine cellars and attentive staff, made me want to play the lottery to see if I could become a millionaire overnight.
My escape to the Swiss chalet was delightful—it was a cheery romantic comedy that would brighten up even the darkest winter day.
I loved this book! Such a great romantic escape. I absolutely loved Holly and could so sympathize with her. This was an absolute wonderful book to read.
