I made it to the middle of the book before having to stop. It was torture to have to keep reading.
The main issue for me was that literally nothing was happening, it was all very boring. Also Holly, the protagonist, has close to no interaction with the love interest up to the point I’ve come to read. I could see that something was beginning to happen but frankly after reading half of the book I was already tired. And also for what we had seen Luca (the love interest) is such a insufferable character with no charm whatsoever.

** spoiler alert ** First of all, I'd like to thank you NetGalley, Aria & Aries and author Carrie Walker for providing me with a free advanced reader copy.

I enjoyed reading Escape to the Swiss Chalet.
The author writes about food and winter landscapes in beautiful way, so it's easy to imagine that we're the people who want to start a new chapter in life in Switzerland.
However, I didn't find true romance in this book and relationship in the last chapter was a little bit rushed. I also don't understand how Holly, who spent 8 years living only to satisfy her boyfriend's expectations, decide to not spend at least 1 week travelling by herself after finishing season in Switzerland, and just moves to Italy because her boyfriend-to-be got there a job...

I really wanted to like this one!.
The premise was an interesting idea, a girl who hates the cold most in the world moves to Switzerland after a bad break up to work at a ski resort, but it took so long for something to actually happen I got pretty bored.
I made it about 25% though the book before I Dnf'd.

Beautiful cover to this book which really drew me in. Fairly typical romcom book, with a slight bit of drama on the side. Slightly over descriptive of the food for me and under researched. But overall not too bad. Thank you netgalley for the advanced copy

A lovely festive snow scented hot chocolate tasting book. Lovely Holly has been with George since day one of uni. He dumps her at the altar!
Her job as chef is not appreciated by him. Chance offering of a job as a chef at a luxury ski resort catering for the rich and famous leads her to expo lore her more options a single woman out in the world she wasn’t expecting to ever have to navigate.

This was a gorgeous story, the scenery and food sounded wonderful.

Thank you NetGalley for this arc in exchange for an honest review.

This was a pleasant cozy chick lit style of book, very similar to those by Julie Caplin. I enjoyed it although got a bit bored with the detailed food and meal descriptions! It was a fun book and flowed well x

Escape to the Swiss Chalet is a romantic comedy that takes readers on a trip to the brutally cold Swiss Alps.

The story follows Holly, a woman who was left at the alter by her fiance. Holly was heartbroken and her answer to a fresh start despite her aversion to cold weather, finds herself going to the Swiss Alps. Holly becomes a sous-chef for a very wealthy family business. As the book goes on, Holly is transforming her new found life.

The author did a great job with her descriptions, I felt like I could imagine this as a movie. Holly finds new friends, such as Liv and the chef Xavier, who help guide her in this new lifestyle.

Of course, there's romance, Luca is rich, handsome, and kind. Luca's intentions at times are iffy, the author creates a sort of mystery and anticipation about him. As Holly and Luca's relationship unfolds, I found muself rooting for them!

"Escape to the Swiss Chalet" is a typical romcom that surrounds itself with self-discovery, healing, and the transformation.

I enjoyed the authors writing style. It left me with a warm, cozy feeling which is great in a romcom.

Overall, there was nothing spectacular that stood out, this is your typical palette cleansing romcom.

After being left on her wedding day Holly gets the opportunity to go to a Swiss Chalet for the season and learn from a Michelin star chef to improve her cooking skills. There she meets new friends, new romance and rediscovered who she really is.

Overall I really enjoyed Escape to the Swiss Chalet.
It was a fast, light read with drama, romance, friendship and self-discovery.

There are some little things that REALLY annoyed me. And I know they are small details and I’m nitpicking but things like these immediately take me out of the story:
- our MC paying in Euros - we do not and have never used Euros in Switzerland!
- a french chef using pint as a measurement
- a french dude having the thermostat for his wine cellar in Switzerland set in Fahrenheit
- the MCs room apparently being 3 sq meters but fitting a wardrobe, a dressing table and two twin beds, when the twin beds alone take up more than 3 sq meters of space… magic??
- the shorthand WTF, FFS - super jarring!

3.75 stars

Thanks to netgallery for this arc 3.75⭐️

Holly + cold = hate so why is she packing her bags to leave for the Swiss alps? She’s surprised herself and everyone else by doing so.
New friends
New adventure
And a new fancy someone?

This book was a sweet, fast paced and easy read.

Will definitely be rereading this!

Holly was left at the church when George decided not to go through with the wedding. She was heartbroken and humiliated. When her friend and boss offered her the opportunity to learn from a gifted chef while working in a Swiss chalet, Holly takes the opportunity. The food and wine descriptions are amazing. Readers will root for Holly as she rebuilds her life and learns along the way! I read this book on Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

What initially attracted me to this book was the cartoon cover. What kept me around was the way the author write such vivid descriptions. It feels like you are tasting the wines and food. You feel the bite of the air on the mountain. I really enjoyed experiencing this book with the protagonist, Holly. She's a frustrating one, but it was nice to see her grow and mature as a character through the book and start taking steps in the right direction.

Holly absolutely despises the cold and everyone knows it. So when she packs her bags to move to the Swiss Alps everyone is surprised, including herself. But after a heartbreak, it’s exactly what she needs. Where she is going is the home of billionaires and she feels out of place. Luckily, she makes new friends Liv and Xavier and they show her the ropes in the new and cold place. And then there’s Luca, handsome and rich but where’s the catch?

Escape to the Swiss Chalet was a nice, fast, and light read. There’s drama and romance, all things enjoyable in a romantic comedy. If you’re looking for something sweet, this will hit the spot.

Thank you NetGalley and Aria & Aries for the ARC and the chance to read and review it honestly.

Happy reading 📚

For a debut novel, I feel like this author really has a great grasp of her unique writing style. I loved the integration of French and English, and feeling like I was really there, drinking the wines and tasting the food. I feel like the story was interesting, and well written too. It just didn’t feel very much like a romance novel, more like adult fiction.

There was a vague sense of longing from one of the characters, but overall just several different awkward encounters that somehow budded into a relationship in the very last chapter. I kept wondering when the romance, that I assumed I would be getting lots of from viewing the rom-comy cover, was going to kick in. And while there were several sweet gestures, I found that I was kept waiting.

Granted, I don’t feel like this was a bad read, I just wouldn’t go into it expecting a mushy sort of romance. Or spice ;)!

An easy 5 stars from me - I was completed transported to Switzerland and LOVED the theme of self-discovery through the experiences of a new destination. A fabulous heroine, some laugh-out-loud moments, and great supporting characters. Highly recommended.

A really accomplished debut, well written, well plotted, well paced, characters are three dimensional and believable, scene setting is first rate, and the ending cleverly obscured which held my interest. Main character Holly is imbued with genuine wit and a sharp and inventive turn of phrase which I enjoyed throughout. Looking forward to reading more from this author.

Just like Holly, I was surprised about Xaviers relationship situation. I was rooting for them even before finding out. Honestly the chemistry between Holly and Luca was confusing but it makes sense now. I loved how Liv and Xavier took Holly in and made her feel at home. I also loved how patient Xavier was with Holly. He was so supportive. Genevieve also surprised me towards the end.

This is perfect if you want a sweet and quick read, where the lead is able to grow and learn in the process. Holly, a non-lover of cold climates, surprises all when she moves to the Swiss Alps. She is going to work as a sous chef and re-focus after her recent heartache. Once she arrives, she realizes how wealthy everyone is in her new community, but she makes some local friends who draw her out of her comfort zone as she learns how to navigate all things winter, including sports. Throw in a little romance and readers have a delight of a book.

I am a big believer in the saying, 'When one door closes, another opens', and this sums the storyline perfectly. When Holly is dumped at the altar, she's given a chance for a work at a ski chalet.

I absolutely loved this book. It was a great, romantic escape, and it just ticked all the boxes that I hope for in a romantic comedy. I liked the way her past relationship was tied up and how she moved on. I think I would have died with the wardrobe malfunction, but it was funny. It is very entertaining and enjoyable. I am looking forward to reading more by this author.
