Loved the mystery and figuring out who what and why
Great characters and enjoyable writing
No so keen on the narrator
The family on Smith Street can be described as a Psycho thriller with Multiple timelines literally racing meet at the finish line. We start off with a family of a mom, dad and daughter, seemingly happy and seemingly perfect. But when the mom Joanna disappears after a night out the daughter Scarlett feels like her dad is really not that concerned. With time passing and an investigation opening, secrets and lies from the past begin to untwirl and come out in the open.
The beginning of the book had a bit of slow buildup to the eventual pace of the plot. The parts with Joanna and the kidnapper was chilling and creepy as you can expect it to be. The whole question of who all will survive this ordeal in the end was well maintained making the twist and turns very enjoyable.
Many thanks to Netgalley, Bookouture Audio and the author for the ALC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I accidentally got the audio version so it took me longer than usual to get through the book. At times (because it was audio) I got a little confused about the characters but I was able to figure it out. I’m not a huge fan of the authors writing style but the book was good.
3.5 stars
This suspense thriller kept me on my toes! With a dual timeline and multiple POV’s, it was a plot that pulled me in from the start and was difficult to predict.
How well do we really know the people in our lives? When Joanna goes missing, her husband James is convinced that he really didn’t know his wife at all. He suspects that she may have run off with another man. Scarlet, their daughter, however, has complete trust in her mother so launches her own secret investigation. What she finds will change everything she thought she knew.
The story was narrated by a single narrator despite the multiple POV’s and this was a clever decision. It was well performed with great voice changes and animation.
My favourite POV was Alex, which takes place in the past. It was dark and creepy. Sent shivers down my spine at times. However, the whole story comes together nicely with an explosive twist at the end. Knocked me off my feet! My only disappointment was that the other two POV’s took some time to get going.
Thank you to #BookoutureAudio and #Netgalley for an audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

This was a good psychological thriller but I had to stop listening to it about half way through, because I was finding it a little too dark. The story is told from several POV, one being a serial killer. It goes back in time to when the killer is 14 years old and goes to live with his grandparents he didn't know he had. The reader/listener soon realizes that he is drawn to killing animals and people. The other POV is by a mother who has been kidnapped and is being held in a room tied to a bed post. Halfway through the book it becomes apparent that all the characters are linked.
I found this audiobook a bit difficult to follow. It switches between characters without warning. The story is a good one however. It just goes to show, things are never how they appear on the outside.
The Family on Smith Street by Elisabeth Carpenter and narrated by Sarah Durham was brilliant and gripping nail-biting psychological thriller that will just have you gripped from the very first chapter. It was gull of twists and turns and the narrator Sarah Durham was excellent for this book. I loved it and was so glad I had the audiobook especially as it went Christmas shopping with me! lol.
If you live in a picture perfect street. There, maybe a perfect family that people envy and wish they could be them, But, secretly behind those doors someone in that family maybe hiding a secret, and they would kill for keeping them a secret forever!
WoW this book was so good, I highly recommend this book.
Dark and disturbing the story had me gripped. A very tense read told from multiple time line and multiple perspectives. The narrator was great and I loved how all the pieces of the puzzle got together
This is the first book I’ve read by #ElisabethCarpenter and I’m jumping on her books now! This #psychologicalsuspense novel revolving around a serial killer kept my interest throughout and then Carpenter threw a huge twist in at the end that left me stunned!
Sarah Durham made it all the better with her lovely narration of the audiobook.
Thank you, Elizabeth Carpenter,, Bookouture, #bookoutureaudio & netgalley for my ecopy & #audiobook! All opinions are my own.
Slow at start, the fantastic narration helped keeping me engaged and I'm glad it did... I did not see that twist coming! Thanks to NetGalley, the editor and the author for the opportunity to access this copy.
This one took me a little bit to get into because it was slow at the start but quickly ramped up in drama as it followed each different point of view. I really like the point of view of the serial killer and found that very intriguing, which we had gotten a bit more of that. All of the storylines intersect at the end in a pretty dramatic way. I really enjoyed the epilogue as well and thought that was a nice little bonus. The storyline was pretty unique. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
Good story line although I had guessed the twist long before it was revealed
Liked the prologue conclusion as they say "Karma" will get you
Massive shout out to Elisabeth Carpenter and Noelle Holten for giving me my reading mojo back! I have been struggling to read anything that all for months. Noelle gave me the idea of listening to an audio and reading at the same time. Well, it totally worked for me. So there I am trying to find something once again that will keep me interested after reading the blurb I thought yeah this sounds alright! Just alright, who am I kidding.....This book was much more than Alright. It was fanflippintasic. Only 8 Hours, 9 Minutes long. I was hooked from the first page and devoured it in a day. It is totally addictive I just couldn't stop listening to it. I loved everything about it. The characters, the plot and not forgetting the twists and turns. This book is what a thriller is all about taking you on a rollercoaster ride that doesn't let you up for air. This is easily the best book I have this year.
Not only do I have my reading mojo back but I have also found a new author to read. This story is so captivating and filled with tension that it will blow your mind! There are plenty of twists, turns, and heart-in-your-mouth moments.
Last but not least I have to say what a fantastic job Sarah Durham has done narrating this. She has pulled out all the stops and made this story what it is bringing all the characters to life. I always say an audio is as good as the narrator makes it. Sarah did just that... I can't wait to listen to more books narrated by her
The Family on Smith Street is what you would expect of a phycological thriller.
I was captivated right from the beginning.
The story was intruiging and I would not have guessed about the outcome!
I really enjoyed the book and I binge-listened while ending up cleaning my whole house ;)
I really enjoyed the narration by Sarah Durham who did a fantastic job!
Thank you #NetGalley #Bookouture Audio for this audiobook
I see posts all the time wanting to be inside the mind of a serial killer. Well, here ya go. Alex's mind is a dark place to be. He was quite the chameleon based on his audience. I enjoyed the narration of this one. It was an easy listen. I gave it 4 ⭐️ because I did guess a lot of the twists, but I still really enjoyed it!
Follow Joanna's intense journey as she's kidnapped by someone who knows her life inside out. With shifting perspectives and timelines, it took me a bit to get into the story, but I was hooked by the 30-35% mark. 🕵️♀️
🎙️ Kudos to Sarah Durham for the fantastic narration!
💥 This audiobook is action-packed, strikes a perfect balance between character depth and plot, and the author's clever twists had me guessing. 🤯
✨ The clues were well-placed, keeping the suspense alive until the satisfying conclusion. 📖
🔗 Swipe for a thrilling listen that ties up loose ends, even if it's not a jaw-dropping ending! 🎉
This book was very engaging from the first word till the very last word. The characters brought out all kinds of feelings and emotions from the reader. Just when you think you figured out the twist you’re hit with another one. Wham bam boom. You get thrown another twist. I found myself laughing out loud at this book, angry, annoyed etc with each of the characters. I found myself talking out loud to the characters. I highly recommend this book it will keep you turning the pages well into the light and or listening well into the night.
Thanks NetGalley and Bookouture for the arc copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
This book was told from multiple points of view and timelines, but they weren’t challenging to keep straight. My favorite was the killer’s point of view which was as disturbing as you’d expect a serial killer’s to be.
This was fast paced, well read, with interesting characters though that also made it a bit jumpy at times. It was worth the listen.
A truly terrifying tale of revenge and deceit that will leave you shocked and terrified, looking at loved ones with suspicion whilst asking yourself if you really do know everything about your partner!
Written with incredible pace with plenty of twists and superbly narrated, bringing the story to life.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it to fans of the thriller genre.
