Thank you to NetGalley, the publishing house, narrator and the author for the opportunity to listen to an ARC of this audiobook in return for a review based upon my honest opinion.
I will say that listening to the audiobook, I was a little confused here and there when the story switched timelines, but that is probably because I am a visual person. I believe I would have enjoyed the book more if I had read it. The narrator did a great job and their voice was enjoyable to listen to.
Johanna is abducted and kept in an unknown location, she does not know who has her but they seem to know a lot about her and her life. Her husband James and her daughter Scarlett will do anything to find her. As Scarlett tries to find her mother, she discovers that not everyone is who she thinks they are.
This was a slow book to get into but once I did I was hooked. There were lots of twists and the storyline was well done. Definitely worth a read or listen.
This book had be intrigued from the very first word. The narrator did an amazing job at allowing me to see more deeper into each character. I loved how a lot of the story was Alex’s point of view, this story was easy to follow, but also really twisty, which I love when that happens in thrillers. I loved how you didn’t know about certain connections until the very end. Awesome job for making me think Johanna was captured by someone else until the very end as well. Such a great listen/read!
While I found this book a little hard to follow at first with the multiple POVs and timelines once it all clicked in place for me I thought it was a fast paced excellent read!
If you’re struggling with it at all in the begging hang on, it’ll be worth it for sure.
🎧📖 note: the narrator was fantastic!
Being immersed in Alex Buchanan's mind was a rather unsettling experience. He demonstrated a disturbing pattern of behavior around the people in his life, void of empathy and humanity, relentlessly seeking control and dominance. In short, a classic sociopath.
Despite its lack of complexity, I found the book enjoyable, as it had a few twists and turns that kept me engaged, though predictable for those who are well-versed in domestic thrillers. Nevertheless, it was still surprising enough, which I found satisfying.
Overall, it was a fun read, but I wouldn't have minded more intense scenes involving the police. Despite this, I'll overlook it, as the book was decent.
This book was not for me. I had to stop listening soon into the book due to an event that occurred. Because I quit early, I have no ideas what happened to the Johanna or her family. I was not able to get past Alex's story. It was just too dark.
I enjoyed this psychological thriller, which is about Joanna, her husband James, her daughter Scarlett, and a mystery man called Alex. We are told the story of Joanna and James in two different timelines, with Alex' story being in the past, and Joanna's in the present time. Joanna gets kidnapped and she wakes up in a room that looks like one in her own house. But who has taken her?
The narrator of this book was fantastic, and I really enjoyed her portrayal of the story. Highly recommended!
Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book.
Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for my ARC.

Stars ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ solid.
As a psychological thriller enthusiast, I look forward to each read. Every story brings something new whether big or small.
This book does have some twists but like a nice gentle curve rather than hairpin turns. I was able to discern them, however, it didn’t detract from the book as a whole. Dual POVs and timelines are the current trend and this plot follows the trend. Easily read chapters tight and concise.
I would recommend to my reader groups
I really wanted to like this book - - it sounded like a great thriller. With the multiple characters at different ages, in different times, all being narrated by one person, I simply couldn't figure out who was who half the time. I think this might have been a better book to be read rather than the audio version. I didn't especially care for any of the characters, though, so didn't really care what happened to them.
I give 3 stars for the idea.
I saw that twist coming but I still loved the book. I love that took the heat to save his daughter and wife. Apparently, a psycho can love someone? This was my 1st book by Elisabeth Carpenter but it will not be my last, I am off to add all of her backlog of books to my TBR!

I enjoyed The Family on Smith Street but it did feel a little bit predictable and anticlimactic. The multiple timelines and alternating points of view were interesting in concept but a little confusing in reality - specifically in the audiobook. It was fairly fast paced and an easy read for a thriller. I would read from this author again.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Interesting concept but terrible execution. The multiple timelines and points of view are the "'It' girl" of writing just now, but it just fell far short in execution with this book. There are too many jumps, too many points of view, too much over-the-top. Rather than adding to the story, it only creates chaos which does not contribute at all to the storyline or moving the plot forward. None of the characters were particularly likable or even engaging. No one really DOES anything. Poor kidnapped woman was basically left to rot by her "loving family." Daughter is more concerned with hunting down her friend who is sick in bed than finding her own missing mother. Wow. This is a recommended hard pass.
This was such an absolutely interesting read! This book did a really great job at making me feel many different emotions, and was actually a touch sickening at times, which honestly, a great thriller will mess you up a little bit.
In this story, we see Joanna (a woman who is kidnapped), Scarlett (Joannas daughter) and we also get the perspective of a man whom we do not have the identity of, and we actually follow his journey as he grows up with his grandparents, after his father goes to prison and his mother has passed.
Joanna has been taken, but we don't know who has taken her, nor why. Scarlett begins to search for clues to her mothers where abouts, and finds secrets she'd never dream, or fully understand.
This thriller kept me on my toes and guessing. I did guess the major twist in this one, and although I didn't guess the final little twist, I just didn't find it fully necessary, or that it added to the overall plot and story at all.
Overall, an enjoyable thriller, and I'd compare it to some of Lucy Foley's work! Props to the author!
This is the sort of book that I was so addicted to, just ticked all the boxes as I had no idea where it was going to go and where it went wasnt where I was thinking. I just devoured it and made excuses to hide away and keep listening.
The narration just suited it to perfectly.
Both the narrator and author are ones to watch.
I was given an advance copy by netgalley and the publishers but the review is entirely my own.
I really enjoyed this thriller, it’s fast paced and easy to understand. The narrator is great, her voice is easy to listen to and the characters all have different expressions. The chapters are well pronounced and easy to follow.
The family live on Smith Street, but the husband has a load of secrets, the book goes back and forth to his younger years. The secrets start to unravel in the story. I like the way this author writes her books, keeps you guessing, but with great twists throughout.
A fast paced gripping thriller.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for a copy.
Thank you Elisabeth Carpenter, Bookouture Audio, and NetGalley for this advanced listening copy in exchange for my honest review. The Family on Smith Street is now available!
It took me a little bit to get into this book. It was really hard to tell the different POVs apart for the audiobook. I think the narrator tried really hard to differentiate the different POVs, but it was still really hard to follow. Once I was able to keep the POVs straight and the plot started picking up, I really started to enjoy the audiobook.
Thank you to NetGalley for sending me the audiobook ARC of The Family on Smith Street.
This book was really interesting and really kept me intrigued throughout. The twists in this book were so unexpected I was really impressed with the premise of the story.
The audiobook was narrated so well - I feel like the narrator done a really good job at using her voice to portray different characters, from a teenager to a mother to a killer she done really well.
I really enjoyed the use of multiple POVs and multiple timelines in this book to give us as readers the full story without needing a massively long book. The Family on Smith Street spans over many years but Elisabeth wrote this in such a good way that didn't confuse me or throw me off.
I feel as though there were some parts of the book that felt a bit rushed at points but nothing too much to make me dislike the book. Overall a 3.75 - rounded up - from me and I really recommend this for someone looking for a story that keeps on giving until the very last page.
I was excited to start this story, but sadly I was unable to finish it. After listening to half the book I gave up.
The narration with the completely different POV done by one person just wasn't clear enough for me. I kept getting confused about who was talking and whether we were in the past or present.
I think the idea for the story was really good and showing a POV we do not often see, but the execution of it simply did not work for me. I would have been better of reading this story instead of listening to it.
The Family on Smith Street by Elisabeth Carpenter is a very solid phycological thriller. It captivated me right away. I really enjoyed the narrator, she did a fantastic job! The story was interesting and not predictable! It was a tad confusing in the beginning to figure out who is who and what exactly is going on but it is pretty common for books with multiple POVs. I really enjoyed the book and I binge-listened to it in a few hours at 2x the speed which is my normal speed on Netgalley. I honestly really enjoyed the book and I would love to read more by this author.
This was my first venture into the "Audio Book World". It was great! The narrator was perfect. She switched out her voices for each character. The book was filled with twists and turns. I was on the edge of my seat for most of it. Just when I thought I had it all figured out....BAM...I was NOT correct!!! This book moves quick and it super suspenseful. It is a MUST read...or listen!!! Enjoy!
One can never truly discern who is trustworthy nowadays. This piece of work had me in a constant state of suspense. Although its beginning was a tad leisurely, the momentum picked up swiftly and had me utterly engrossed. The author's future creations are something I eagerly anticipate delving into. The unexpected turn of events took me by surprise. Amidst a plethora of thrillers I've consumed, this particular gem undoubtedly reigns supreme. It's important to note that I provided this assessment willingly, having engaged with an Advanced Reader Copy of the book.
