I was looking forward to reading this as the synopsis made it sound like a must read for me...I was however disappointed by it and really struggled to finish it! I was actually bored by it!
I enjoyed reading this book, however I really wish that the beer and brewing beer had more of a focus throughout the story instead of it being more of a focus on personal growth for our FMC Kat.
I am currently pregnant and not able to have beer but that did not stop me from salivating at all of the descriptions of the beers that were discussed throughout the book, so thank you to the author for that!.
I LOVED that each chapter started with a kind of beer and what made it unique.
This book was really good. I loved the setting of it and the whole vibe of the book. I really liked that we followed a woman who wanted to be a brewer, since it’s not something we see often and especially not in romance stories.
I also really liked the character development, even though it was a really slow development, it turned out to be a pretty huge one for both of our characters.
With that being said there was a few things I wasn’t that hooked on in this book. I thought that the pacing was a bit slow for the first half of the book. I also didn’t find the chemistry behind the two main characters believable and through out the whole book I kept wondering if they even fit together that well. If it had been a contemporary story about a woman following her dream, instead of a romance I would probably have liked it a bit better. Frankly I just found the romance a bit annoying in it.
However I will still recommend it, since I really loved everything about this book besides the romance. So if you want to read a story about a struggling woman whos trying desperately to follow her dreams, this book is definitely for you. Just ignore the romance part like I did.
I’ve Got My Mind Set on Brew is a charming romance set in Chicago and featuring a fictional brewery, Revolution, which reads as authentic as all of the real Chicago locations do. The main character, Kat, is a female brewer who dreams of “marrying the beer” because she loves it so much — a cute inside joke that refers to switching career paths after the difficulty of adulting pushes her that way. I particularly like that this book addressed the weight of student loan and credit card debt, which is a reality for most people in their 20s and 30s, and it’s nice to see that we do belong here in romance books.
Thank you so much to Alcove Press, Netgalley, and Stephanie Jayne for this eARC!
This book is so cute! I love a good enemies to lovers type of story. The characters were great, and I was really rooting for them for a while. It's nice when the main characters are so likable. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a digital ARC of this book.
I loved the idea of this book - my husband and I are big into craft beer and love to go out to breweries and such - I just wish there had been more meat to the romance itself. At times it felt rush, and it never really felt like a two sided relationship. There were also so many side characters, if would have been great to either flesh them out further or reduce the number of characters that were focused on.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher and the opinions expressed are mine entirely.
This is a perfect read for those who enjoy slow-burn romances. It follows Kat who is like every adult -broke and reeling from a backup who takes up a job as a beer brewer. However, something happens and she ends up working with Ryan who is clueless about beer but wants to save the brewery. It's a story about finding yourself, getting better with your craft and asking for help. It is a slow burn so you have to power through.
This was honestly a Did-not-finish for me. It started out okay and I enjoyed the references to different types of beer, but I could honestly care less about the characters and storyline.
This book had a lot of potential- the beer, the Chicago setting, a little enemies to lovers- but it didn’t quite deliver on what it promised. It was a little bit Miller Lite and not enough well-balanced craft beer- I wanted to know the characters more and I wanted their chemistry to be more palpable. I think if you really really liked that movie about the brewery life with Jake Johnson in it a few years ago, this could be for you!
This was a very generic workplace "enemies" to lovers. There are no spicy scenes, so that can be a plus or a minus depending on your preferences. I liked the idea and this taking place in a brewery, but I didn't feel like the characters were deep enough for me to root for them.
This enemies to lovers romance is much like a coors light— it’s there, it’s somewhat entertaining but it just doesn’t reach its full potential. I went in with high hopes but it just left me feeling flat.

Overall, this story had a lot of promise but ultimately didn’t end up working out for me the way I thought it would.
I figured a plot around beer would be fun and different, but ultimately the characters were very immature and I didn’t feel the chemistry from them and really wish I would have because it made it feel like a coworkers that can’t get along not sexy tension.
Thanks to the publisher for my ARC in exchange for my thoughts.
This was a cute little book. I especially enjoyed the descriptions of the beers at the start of each chapter.
I've Got My Mind Set on Brew by Stephanie Jayne is a cute, quick read about a woman, Kat, whose life changes when the brew pub she works at changes owners. Themes of chosen family, chronic illness, and sexism are woven through the novel. The struggle of being a neglected older child in a family with chronic illness was thoughtfully done. Kat's struggle to advocate for herself in male dominated business was very well written. The best part of this story wdtw the communities that Kat found for herself. The characters were interesting and specific. I could picture each one of the supporting characters, even though they weren't the main focus. I changed my mind 4 times whether I liked or trusted the character of Ryan, but I think that was the point. No archetypes here. I enjoyed reading this, it was cool to learn about craft beer. But sorry Kat, you haven't changed my.mind about overly hoppy beer. 4 stars. Thanks Net Galley and Penguin Random House for this eARC in exchange for my.honest opinion.
A closed door romance that really shouldn't have been billed as a romance. I've Got My Mind Set on Brew is more a growth/coming of age than anything else, especially because the chemistry between the two characters is hardly believable. While the focus on craft beers was cute throughout, it got a bit tiresome by the end and I found myself skimming. While the most of the characters were well-thought out, many of them felt like a diversity check box rather than full-fledged characters.
First off, I am not a beer drinker. I’ve never really like the taste of any that I have tried. However while reading this book with the descriptions of different beers before each chapter, I want to like beer. Not sure if I will, but will definitely try some different kinds to see if there is a style I do like.
I liked that this book felt different. It was predictable in that all romance novels are, but I did think it had a different feel to it. At the end I was actually hoping that Kat would just marry the beer and ditch the guy all together. Which probably has some to do with my 3.5 star review. When I read romance I definitely want the guy and girl to end up together. They did here, but I wouldn’t have been bothered if they didn’t!
I always enjoy when my reads add new information. This romance is set around a brewery taught me a few things and engaged my heart with the character interactions. The supporting characters add to the story and enhance the world the author has created. I received an early copy from NetGalley in return for my honest thoughts on this story.
DNF at 14% - I could not suffer through this book any further. The names and nicknames given to the characters (for example: Mr. Hottie McWetPants) and the interactions with the characters were awkward. I felt uncomfortable with the forced humor and the plotline has been done before many times. The concept of having an awkward and embarrassing interaction with the hot guy alone at the bar who would eventually be the new boss is unoriginal and basic. I hope this book resonates better with other readers but it is just not the book for me,. Please note: at the time of this review, this book is set to be published on 04/09/2024. An electronic Advanced Reader Copy of this book was given to me for free by the publisher via NetGalley. I am freely choosing to leave this review.
The premise was great but this fell flat for me. The author failed to capture my attention, it was boring, too long and the chemistry between the two characters was just not there.
The title and the synopsis of this book were so fun, but honestly, that's where the fun ended. It felt like the author was more or less blurting information at us rather than showing it. It's supposed to be enemies to lovers but I just didn't see it. There was no chemistry between the characters and i just didn't enjoy it.
