This is a very nice booklet of extremely wearable crochet designs. I haven’t made one of the items yet, but will likely make one in the future.
Thank you to Stackpole Books and NetGalley for the opportunity to evaluate this booklet.
This is a great book for anyone who loves yarn. I was excited to have the opportunity for an ARC and while it's definitely harder to follow on the kindle, we will purchase a physical copy when it's released for the library.
I love the patterns in this book. They are oversized, blocky sweaters and a scarf also, that are easy to size and crochet. The patterns in this book are easy to read and seem to be well written. I haven't made all of them, which is the best way to proof read a pattern, but as I read through them, the instructions made sense. The yarns are easy to get at general stores in the US, and the stitches are appropriate for advanced beginners. The patterns are ones that I would wear on a daily basis. I will definitely be purchasing this book to have in my crochet library.
Thank you for the opportunity to read this book for a fair and honest review.
I like to crochet and have made a couple of simple sweater tees. These patterns don’t seem too difficult and are presented in an easy to follow way. The designs are all oversized and look like they could be done rather quickly, 3 crocheted in medium weight #4 and 3 in heavy weight #5 yarn. I don’t love the patterns and would probably only consider making 2 or 3. I just don’t like the look of shapeless sweaters. Also, each one must be pieced or sewn together, the sweaters I’ve made were crocheted all in one piece. I’d probably look for more like that before attempting any in this book. I’m not a fan of having to do that extra piecing.
A book of six patterns for oversize jumpers, a cardigan, a scarf, a poncho and wraps. The patterns are written in USA crochet stitches and the inclusion of crochet terms conversion chart to UK terms would have been good as this is clearly going to be published for the UK market too. Although it is easy enough to look up the conversions, it would have been useful to have these included in the resources section at the end of the book. There are some useful links included, particularly for those fairly new to the craft.
Lion brand yarn is listed for all of the patterns, however it would be easy to find substitutions as the yarn weights and fibre content are given in detail.
Photographs of the patterns are good quality and work well to show the stitch work, give an idea of the construction and design of the items, even in greyscale on Kindle. I have also looked at them on the Kindle app on my smartphone too, so that I could view them in colour. I admire the timeless yarn colour choices. Some information on sewing pieces together would be handy; I wondered which stitches the designer recommends?
This looks like a good quality book from an already published and established crochet designer, although I have not yet tried any of the patterns I cannot see why they would not succeed.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to view an advance copy of this book.
Oversize Fashion Crochet by Selena Baca offers easy to follow patterns meant to be accessible to those who would like to stitch clothing but find it intimidating. I found that this book did what it intended to do however, the styles and colors of the garments were less than inspiring. With the exception of the red scarf all the other patterns were worked in drab neutrals and almost all of them looked rather bulky.
Whether you're a new crocheter or a more experienced one, this small gem of a book probably has something in it for you! It's a collection of 6 patterns for wearable crochet--sweaters, cocoon, wraps, hooded scarf. These designs are very wearable and look extremely cozy--one of the joys of winter is being able to wrap myself in one of my handmade yarny creations and sip a hot beverage and this book provides some excellent patterns so people can do just that. The patterns all call for Lion Brand yarns, but there are also tips on yarn substitution included. Personally, I can see these designs being great stash busters as well. Some of the patterns can easily be tweaked for different yarn weights and the author tells you how to do that, which is quite useful. She also provides excellent schematics to show how to construct the garments, as well as other tips and tricks for each pattern. The garments are designed to be loose and, as the title says, oversized, which means there are no fussy techniques required. At the end of the book, there is a short list of further resources, including a link to the designer's Ravelry page, where you can get in touch with any questions. The book is really well done. I highly recommend it!

Thank you Netgalley and the publishers for this ecopy in exchange for an honest review.
Very cute patterns! Easy to follow. I am just getting comfortable making sweaters, so this was helpful! I received this as an ARC, So Thank you!
I received an advanced reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.
5 star review!
Love the patterns in this book, easy to follow and I look forward to making some products.
Whilst I am not new to crochet I have only completed blankets and other basic projects so far, so this book is really pushing me out of my comfort zone. There are some really interesting designs in there and whilst I havent made anything yet I am chimping at the bit to try it out
Sweater weather is here! Time to get out some warm and wooly yarn, and get to work.
Here are six designs made with big hooks and big yarn that will equal big results fast. Great idea!
Unfortunately, I wasn't wild about many of the designs: too many big voluminous lapels and sleeves that seem destined to catch on things and snag. (Not what I want after spending hours on a project.)
I will rate the book (pamphlet?) four stars however, as the presentation is nice, and the patterns seem easy to follow.
This books is so easy to follow and make some great items of clothing without too much fuss. the patterns suit any situation from everyday wear to elegant ponchos and jumpers. I haven't come across many patterns of crotchet womens' clothing that look so good. Thanks you NetGalley and the publishers for the DRC
The patterns are so easy to follow! Not only that, but they are in style. The pictures and diagrams were helpful for me as I learn better visually. Top notch!
A very small book of wearable crochet items. I would say look at the pictures to see if they are something you would like. Oversized items in crochet are usually very heavy compared to knit items which depending on your taste might be just what you would want to make.
The instructions are clear and you'd definitely wouldn't have problems making them.
I like the idea of this booklet but the title confused me--I wasn't sure if "oversize" meant baggy or for larger sizes. The instructions, photos, & diagrams look good. I think the title would be more informative if it read something along the lines of "Crochet Fashion for Everyone (or Every Body)".
This is a great book. An awesome collection of crochet patters. All of them are very well written and easy to follow.
Through NetGalley, I received a free copy of OVERSIZE FASHION CROCHET by Salena Baca in exchange for an honest review. This is a collection of patterns featuring large-sized garments and thick yarn. The patterns look fairly simple, and the finished garments are all attractive. If you are looking to crochet warm, quick, and attractive items for yourself or for a feminine gift, you should consider this pattern collection.
