This book is great! This is a really fun format and I have learned so many new stitches. The layout and design are really helpful. I'm so happy to have received an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
This was an interesting book for those who love crochet and learning stitches. However, I would say it is not for a true beginner of crochet. For those who love crochet, it would be a great gift.
I really liked this book, it was different than anything else I've read which was a breath of fresh air. I will be recommending this to my friends, and auto buy this author!
Book 166 of 200 ~ 2023
🌟🌟🌟
To be fair, if I wasn't such a crochet dud, I am sure I would have thoroughly enjoyed this however, for some reason, unlike my talented husband, I just can't wrap my head around it.
Jerrid, who is just amazing with all these kinda things refuses to try as I think that he is worried about how much crochet cutie stuff I will make him do and then lack space to display LOL
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

What I liked most about the book is that it is a perpetual calendar, meaning you can use it year after year. This makes it an excellent investment for anyone looking to expand their crochet skills and knowledge. The book is also well-designed, with beautiful color photographs that make it easy to see the details of each stitch pattern.
In conclusion, I would highly recommend A Year of Crochet Stitches to anyone looking for a unique and innovative gift for a crochet lover. Jill Wright's expertise and experience as a crochet and knitwear designer are evident in the book, and the variety of stitch patterns included is sure to inspire and delight any crochet enthusiast.
Great resource for learning new stitches!
Thank you to the publisher and netgalley for this review copy
A Year of Crochet Stitches: A stitch-a-day perpetual calendar is a lovely item for crocheters to own. As well as being a handy, stand-up desk calendar, it is full of inspiration for aspiring pattern designers or for someone looking to add in texture or variety to an existing project.
The stitch multiples, listed under the date are particularly helpful and with the images, gives a good baseline idea of how the sample will progress. I'm lucky in that I don't use diagrams - crocheters who do may struggle with this calendar.
Like other reviewers, I'd like to have seen stitch names listed, as this would help me to look them up on Youtube if they proved particularly complex, or again, just for inspiration and see what other crocheters are using the stitch for. And an index would have been helpful, although not essential, to re-find a particular item. Another thing that could be helpful is a basic stitch guide - always good when a UK crocheter is switching to US terminology! - as this does make the book more daunting for beginners, especially when paired with the written density of some of the patterns.
Overall, the photos were good and yarns with good contrast chosen.
I wouldn't buy it as a gift for a beginner, only someone with a bit more skill and experience. I do feel the Kindle price is somewhat high as well.
I'd give this 3.5 out of 5 as it's not without issue, but I will be wanting a paper copy for myself.

I have more than one book that collect various crochet and/or knitting stiches, and honestly I often flip through and pick one when I am looking to make and afghan and want something new to try. A Year of Crochet Stitches is a lovely desk calendar that offers me most of those same stiches, but in a new format. I liked that the stitches were grouped together in a logical and helpful way for the learning process, starting in January with some simple, basic stitches and then grouping things like baubles, chevrons, lines, edging, and motifs in later months. I really like the idea of this collection, but think it would have worked better for me if there was some continuity- creating a finished project at the end of each month rather than 365 different stitches in different projects. At the end there are suggestions for patterns in which to use the different stitches, and the instructions for joining motifs and some great information. I think this would be a fun gift for crafters like myself that are always looking to change things up or learn something new.
A Year of Crochet Stitches by Jill Wright is a new calendar for the crochet enthusiast. Am imprint by publisher Globe Pequot, I received a digital version from NetGalley. This is my own opinion about the day-by-day calendar.
I think it's a neat thing to have a publication that has 365 stitches to try out. In my opinion, the person would need crochet experience to be able to adapt these stitches to a project. These would be samples of stitch patterns. The photos done by Tabetha Hedrick are a major asset to the daily page. There is beautiful stitch work here. Each stitch sample starts with a multiple of a certain number of stitches. For example, on January 11 the row is done in a multiple of 8 stitches plus one extra stitch. The maker will crochet 8 stiches time after time until the swatch or project is the length or width desired. This is why I feel an experienced person will benefit the most from the calendar.
I truly wish that each stitch was named on the page. I'm kind of surprised that it isn't included with the stitch. Now, this was an advanced copy so perhaps this is a change on the published calendar. This would be a nice gift because there are many beautiful stitches, each one featured in a clear photograph. It could be easily displayed on a desk or tucked into a project bag. I rate it a 4 out of 5.
This is a great resource for crocheters of all levels! I really love the variety of stitches from dense to open lace-type stitches. This is a great opportunity to use these pattern layouts for larger projects like blankets or garments.
There is a nice beginner crochet section in the beginning to review basic stitches, and then photos and instructions for a year's worth of stitches! This would also be a neat resource to make a sampler blanket. I envision creating many same-size squares and joining them together for a blanket or a bag.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking to spice up their crochet projects with a new stitch or someone looking to expand their crochet skills. I think the patterns seem to get more complicated the further into the year you get. I will use this book often.
It just wasn't what I was expecting. I thought it would be a beginner's guide to basic (and progressively more advanced) stitches, but it was too advanced for me and seemed to be like directions on how to combine lots of stitches to make different patterns.
This is not a book to be used by a beginner crocheter. The book does not go over basic stitches and rather quickly goes over abbreviations but not all of them. If you have been crocheting for some time and want to expand your knowledge this is a great way to learn new stitches. I like that the months are categorized into themes.
I have been looking for something like this book for years. My crochet skills are rather basic but I really enjoy making blankets, cushion covers, dog sweaters etc. However, it can be very repetitive when you only know three or four crochet stitches.
A Year Of Crochet stitches gives a new stitch to learn in a handy flip top calendar style. Just perfect to pop in your craft box or keep by your side whilst following the step by step guides.I viewed this book as as a digital, ebook but would recommend the hard copy for convenience. The calendar isn’t tied to a specific year so it can be used over and over again.
In order to use the calendar, you do need a very basic knowledge of crochet. The months are divided into themes which I liked, however I would like to know the actual name of each stitch.
I love calendar books like this - with something new to try everyday.
There are a wide range of stitch patterns included and the stitch multiples are provided too which will make it easy to use the stitch in different sized projects.
If you know how to make all the basic crochet stitches then this book is a great way to start practising different combinations to create unique fabrics for blankets, scarves and shawls.
If you are brand new to crochet, there is no stitch guide or techniques section included so you will need to look for online resources (or another book) to see how to make the stitches that are required in each pattern.
For digital patterns it is important to have clear images. I think in a small printed calendar the images might look ok but when viewing this on my computer many of the images are not quite in focus and grainy in appearance.
The text is very clear and easy to read. Overall I think this would make a good gift to newer crocheters who are looking to expand and learn new stitches for simple projects.
This is a great calendar for anyone who loves yarn. I was excited to have the opportunity for an ARC and while it's definitely harder on the kindle, I will purchase a physical copy when it's released for my personal gift giving.
This book is wonderful for learning new stitches and expanding your knowledge of crochet through out the year. It would also be a great guide to design a blanket, sweater, scarf or any item with the stitches shown. Many of the stitches are appropriate for new crocheters and some would be best for experienced, but there are so many that anyone would not have difficulty making them as swatches or into a project and having plenty to do. I would recommend this book and will likely be buying a hard copy for myself. I received a digital copy through NetGalley, and would not recommend a digital copy because it is difficult to navigate.
Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.
Since I am an avid crocheter I am always looking for things pertaining to this craft. Each month states what type of stitches will be shown for each day of that month (shells, ripples…).The patterns are detailed written instructions and I love that the multitudes are included above each pattern.
I feel this is an item that should be put into my resource collection after finishing as a calendar. So it continues its purpose even after the year is over. I would definitely buy this for myself as a crochet dictionary to refer to from time to time.
Thank you to Jill Wright and NetGallery for letting me preview this advance copy.
3.5/5 stars
When I first stumbled upon this, I thought that this would make the perfect gift for my best friend who loves crocheting too. We both went through this together and we loved the idea behind this. The book is structured in a nice way, starting with the basics and moving up from that.
However, we do wish that the names of the stitches were given cause sometimes we couldn't figure out what to call them which means it wasn't easy to reference to them when talking about our progress. Also, some of these we already knew but couldn't figure out until we already went through them. Besides that, instructions seemed a little unclear a couple of times and we couldn't look up for a tutorial online cause we didn't know what the stitch was called.
This book is an amazing tool needed in everyone's crochet arsenal. Easy to follow daily stitches to follow. This book should always be in your yarn bag for inspiration.
A Year of Crochet Stitches is a stitch-a-day calendar. As a beginner in crochet, I found it less than ideal. The book lacks introductory explanations on how to read the patterns, which can make the instructions daunting. I would recommend this to individuals with more crochet experience, as it might not be the best choice as a gift for someone just starting out in the craft.
