I always like to check out these samplers when they're available on Netgalley. It helps me find new books that I may be interested in and gives me an idea of the writing styles.
I love reading these little samplers of potential bestseller books! Can't wait to read a few of these when they are released.
Interesting stories...there are stories worth investigating a little further in there. It was nice to get a sneak peek of the books.
I cannot wait for Check & Mate. Downloaded this to read the extended excerpt and it did not disappoint!
Thank you Penguin Teen for the sample chapters from these three upcoming releases!
This makes me so excited to read these books!
I can't wait to read all three of these new books!
House of Marionne grabbed my attention when I heard it was a romantic fantasy. I love fantasy books and from reading the sample, I can't wait to get my hands on this book! Fantasy and Bridgerton vibes? Sign me up! I'm interested in where it will go!
Thieves Gambit made me think of The Inheritance Games with the high stakes and competition, I love a fast paced read that keeps you interested the whole time and this book seems like that's what it will be!
Check and Mate seems like such a great story and I can't wait to read about the chess elements in this book! Ali Hazelwood is a wonderful author so I know this book will be wonderful!
Thank you Penguin Teen for the access to these upcoming blockbusters! They have made me even more excited to get my hands on the final copies!
Thank you Penguin Teen for the sample chapters from these three upcoming releases!
House of Marionne is high-octane contemporary fantasy. The sample chapters focused more on the POV character’s gritty origins and didn’t get into the socialite world promised in the book’s pitch, but left me curious as to what’s to come.
If you like The Inheritance Games, definitely watch out for Thieves’ Gambit! Raised in a tight-knit cat burglar family, Ross just wants to go to college like a normal kid, and thinks a gymnastics summer camp is her chance. But then a black box email invites her to the exclusive Thieves’ Gambit, and the prize is the only chance to get her mother out of danger.
I’ve already had the opportunity to read all of Check, Mate! and it truly might be my favorite Ali Hazelwood novel yet. Mallory Greenleaf decided she was done with chess… until she plays in a charity tournament and miraculously beats the reigning World Chess Champion. The ace-spectrum representation and the genuineness of the POV voice make this book an emotional page-turner.
Samplers are fantastic! I appreciate the opportunity to get a taste of upcoming releases, and this one includes nice-sized samples.
Thank you to #NetGalley and #PenguinGroup for a free copy of #PenguinTeenBlockbustersSampler by Various. All opinions are my own.
i got this to read the sample of check & mate because i'm so excited for it, but i also really loved the sample of thieves' gambit and immediately put it on my TBR! this got me even more excited for check & mate, i loved the other ali hazelwood book i read.
I am excited to get a sneak peek of these upcoming releases. I was already excited for Check Mate but I am glad to learn more about Thieves Gambit and House of Marionne. I've added these additional titles to my TBR and cannot wait to read the full book.
I have a love/hate relationship with sampler books. I love them so much, but they aren’t nearly enough!! I was already excited Check & Mate, and had it preordered. Now I have two more books to add to my list!!
Thank you so much to Penguin Young Readers Group and Netgalley for the opportunity to read the sampler in exchange for honest feedback.
I love these samplers! They are a great way to sample several books, and to decide what makes the cut for your fall TBR list.
All three excerpts included in this collection look good, but Check & Mate is my most anticipated.
Thank you to Netgalley and Penguin Group for providing me with an ARC of this book to read and review!
The Penguin Teen: Blockbusters sampler was fantastic. Ali Hazelwood is an auto-buy author for me and I cannot wait for Check & Mate!! I really enjoyed this early preview. I was immediately drawn in by the gorgeous cover of House of Marionne. Quell has a very compelling voice and I can’t wait to see how her adventure continues. I had not heard of Thieves’ Gambit yet, but I was interested right away from the comparison to Inheritance Games and Ocean’s Eleven. I’m now looking forward to all of these books!
Thank you so much to Penguin Young Readers Group and Netgalley for the opportunity to read the sampler in exchange for honest feedback.

3 tentative stars
Great sample of books I'm super excited to read!
The new Ali Hazelwood book has a lot of potential and I can't wait!
Thanks PenguinGroup for the YA sampler! I admit I took this one to read the Ali Hazelwood chapter sampler, which was great and I am excited for her YA debut and how much I think YA fans will connect with her inclusive stories... but I also really enjoyed the other two previews from Kayvion Lewis and J. Elle. J . Elle's fantasy book will surely be a win for the growing enthusiasm for fantasy series and I loved the heist themes in the Lewis chapter, kind of a blend of hunger games and ocean's eleven themes.
I cannot wait for everyone to read Check & Mate, I LOVE ALI HAZELWOOD AND I WANT TO MARRY HER (even tho we're both already married to our husbands), out of the three this is the one that I enjoyed the most (I already read the book thanks to an ARC).
House of Marionne: really an entertaing preview, cannot wait to read the rest and I'm intrigued by the setting
Thieves Gambit not really a fan of YA thrilles, but I'm willing to give this a shot as well
This was an interesting sampler in that all three books have appeared previously on NetGalley. The highlight of the bunch is Check & Mate, Ali Hazelwood's charming foray into YA. House of Marionne is a mix of urban fantasy and fantasy of manners that had an interesting premise, but suffered from a lack of world building and language errors. I thought it might have been better positioned as middle grade. Thieves' Gambit is part heist and part competition between thieves. It's another book that might have been better positioned as middle grade due to writing style.
Still, a fun sampler! Check & Mate definitely elevates this one.
This makes me so excited to read these books! I got an e-ARC of House of Marionne already, but it was messed up… no way to fix it I guess.
4.5/5
Thank you so much NetGalley and Penguin Teen for the opportunity to read sample of these very anticipating reads!
House of Marionne by J. Elle
I love the mystery and magical elements. The fact that it was in the South made me very excited for that is were I grew up and I love seeing it used in literature. Already excited to see what happens with Quell as she ventures to the South to meet her mysterious grandmother and even more mysterious school.
Thieves Gambit by Kayvion Lewis
Yay! Bring on all the heist/thief books! I am always down for a fun mystery thriller with people breaking and entering. By the looks of the characters there will be some very fun to read banter and fun locations.
Check and Mate by Ali Hazelwood
So ready for an enemies to lovers esc competition. I enjoyed meeting the two main characters and I can't wait to see how their story unfolds.
