Thank you Netgalley and Rebecca Chase for the copy of Stalling in love and giving me the chance to read and review this book!
Stalling in love is the 2nd book in The Bulls Rugby Series but it can be read as a stand alone. I would recommend rewind the first book (Head Over Feels) in the series to get a better understating of the charcters.
I love that Evie and Josh have both been through a lot throughout this book you can see not only their connection but the growth they both go through.
There are some very steamy scenes in this book and I enjoyed the second chance romance aspect.
This is a 4star read for me and I look forward to reading the next book in the series!
Like some other reviewers, I found it a bit difficult to get into this book. The first few chapters felt like I was seriously missing some important information which made it hard for me to sink my teeth in, which makes sense since it seems like this is the second in a series. But you can definitely read it as a standalone.
Josh and Evie’s sex scenes were intense but I didn’t really get attached to them like I thought I would. Also, I didn’t find the secondary characters that interesting either. Giving it 3 stars though because maybe it just didn’t vibe with me!
Thank you NetGalley and Rebecca Chase for the ARC!
Stalling In Love is the second book of The Bulls Rugby series. This is promoted as a standalone but I recommend reading the first book of the series first. I didn’t know it was part of a series and was completely lost in the beginning. It took me a while to get in to this book and didn’t really connect with the main characters. I did like Evie and the banter between her and Josh. I have to say that the spicy was really well written and was my favorite part of the story. I think if I had read the first book of the series first then I would have enjoyed this one a bit more.
Stalling in love….
This story did take some time to get into. At first I was confused and felt maybe I had missed something. Once I got into it a little more, I started to understand. Evie and Josh have a very complicated relationship and you can almost feel stressed just reading about it. Then add in Josh’s dad and you just can’t stand him.
There is quite a bit of foul language. I don’t mind the language but if you are a person that doesn’t. This isn’t really your book. There are very steamy sex scenes as well. All in all it was a good book. We get the happy ending that we are rooting for Evie and Josh! And who doesn’t love some Rugby!
Synopsis: Evie and Josh were best friends with a powerful attraction to each other. But after a night of mistakes on Josh's bedroom floor, they have a falling out. Weeks later, they run into each other and are forced to confront their regrets and feelings for each other.
My take: I'm very lucky to read Rebecca's words (as her critique partner) before they release into the world. I love her writing and this book. Josh and Evie are easy characters to root for. Evie suffers from being misunderstood by the world. She makes mistakes trying to care for herself and the people she loves. Josh is trying to live up to his father's punishing expectations to the detriment of his own happiness. It's so lovely watching these two characters help each other address what is holding them back in life so they can move forward to the happiness they deserve.
This book is a wonderful second chance romance that is steamy as hell. If you're a second chance or sports romance fan with open door scenes, this is for you!
(p.s. I NEED a Lucas book =])
I didn't absolutely love this book right away. I think it was the second book in the series so I was behind once I started the book. The sex scenes were amazing. It’s supposed to be a standalone, but It jumped almost right into the plot without much exposition and was a bit confusing. It made it hard to under stand where the protagonists were coming from. I didn't really feel the romance between the characters besides the chemistry during sex. I think I would have liked this book more if I would have read the first one, honestly. I would give 3 stars. I am hoping to read the first book in the series and maybe return to this one, and have a better opinion.
I didn't realise this was part of a series, although it could be read on its own you feel like you're walking into the cinema having missed the first 20minutes of a film.
Evie is thoroughly likeable, as is Josh, I'm not sure I see them staying together but I was definitely routing for them from the beginning!
The writing was fantastic, great descriptions and enough angst to keep you entertained and sticking with the story.
Having read ahead Over Heels, I was super stoked to read this one! I am already looking forward to her next one. I thoroughly enjoyed Evie and Josh and their relationship dynamic. The spice was fantastic so that is a HUGE plus as well.
I really wanted to like this, but I just couldn’t. I went in not knowing that it appears to be part of a series, so it was confusing from the beginning.
The spicy scenes were good, but other than that I didn’t feel the chemistry or emotion that I like in a romance. Evie had bouts of witty and entertaining dialogue. The characters were otherwise difficult to feel a connection with, in my opinion,
I loved this book! Having already read Head Over Feels, I jumped at the chance of reading an ARC copy of Stalling in Love. Getting to know Evie was really interesting after meeting her in book one and learning about her past. I really enjoyed her and Josh together and loved the format of the romance so we got to see them together. Rebecca doesn't shy away from writing about some hard-hitting topics in her romances and it's refreshing to read. Stalling in Love deals with the topic of loss in a couple of different ways, toxic families, and manipulation. It really added a new dimension to the story and it was heartwarming to see how Evie and Josh came together to work through their trauma. There are lots of steamy sex scenes which were all well written and each one different - there was no repetition and reuse of words. Really well done. The 'will they, won't they?' kept me turning the pages desperately wanting to know if they got their HEA. Looking forward to the next book in the series!
Evie is in love with her friend Josh. Josh is in love with her too but he needs to concentrate on his career as a ruby player. He also has to deal with his dad's interference. Can they find love?
Enjoy Evie a lot. I love her relationship with Josh. They have a lot of chemistry together. I love that they are best friends as well as romantic interests. A fun read.
Thanks to the publisher for the arc.
The sex scenes were definitely steamy and worth a read. I think this is a sequel (I have not read the others). It’s supposed to be a standalone, but It jumped almost right into the plot without much exposition and was a bit confusing. It made it hard to under stand where the protagonists were coming from. I didn’t like Josh or Evie. They didn’t have chemistry outside of sex - I like my characters to be able to banter well. However, the characters didn’t feel whole and they weren’t really likable.
