This was a good rhyming book with a super important message about the difference between living and dead sand dollars that I found quite interesting. The illustrations were really cute and will be buying this for my beach loving relatives.
A sweet, short book written in rhyme to help kids discern whether a sand dollar is alive and should be left alone, or expired and able to be collected. Detailed illustration make a great conversation starter for group or reading buddies. A fun addition to classroom or lower grade school library.
Short, sweet, and adorable book. A quick rhyming book that tells readers about the difference between sand dollars that are still living and should be left alone, and those that have died and are okay to be collected as beach souvenirs.
So, somebody thought a great idea was a slogan-bearing leaflet telling visitors to the coast not to pick up living sand dollars, and several months later the author here came up with a short book with that message. Yeah, well, we don't always get what we wish for. I for one still have no idea what the heck a sand dollar is. But this lesson in the right and wrong ways to go about exploiting their corpses is fine – colourful, pretty, and well-rhymed until the scheme changes later on. I just think the campaign on the topic would have been better, meaning I see little reason for this other than perhaps a rarely-bought coastal souvenir. I mean, even if you're a librarian living where they're prevalent, are you going to rush to stock this just because there's a slight chance a tourist turns up against all the odds to check the etiquette first, rather than hit the beach straight away?
Me and my children enjoyed this story with all the characters within. It talk about sand dollars. There were two children that go to a beach and find sand dollars.
This was a fun story to read. The illustrations were colorful. My children like the sand dollars and how they changed from brown to white.
I received a complimentary copy via Netgalley. This is my honest unbiased opinions.
This was a cute children`s story and educational as well-- I learned something I never knew from this seashore story-- . Great illustrations with nice rhyming poetry.
Cute illustrated children’s book about children playing at the beach and embracing the beauty that comes with it. Recommended for toddlers/elementary schoolers.
A fairly short and simple book about sand dollars. I can see this being a really good book to read to kids before or during a trip to the beach. The rhyme to remember when it is okay to take them from the beach is memorable. And the illustrations themselves were nice.
Sand Dollars by the Seashore is a cute educational book to teach kids about the difference between sand dollars that are still alive and ones that are dead. It's okay to pick up the dead ones, but we need to leave the alive ones near the sea!
I love the rhyming and the catchy way to remember that "gray is okay" but the brown ones should be left to live their lives! Beautifully illustrated. This is a wonderful book for any kid who lives near the water!
Thanks Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to review this eARC in exchange for my honest review on the book!
Thank you to NetGalley, along with the Publisher for the eARC. This book is loaded with information about sand dollars and I appreciate how the author uses kid friendly language throughout the book. The illustrations are cartoonish yet realistic. A great resource for a young reader looking to learn about sand dollars.
Cute little beach read for very early readers
It was cool because it taught you which sand dollars you can pick up and which you can’t.
The illustrations are cute and vibrant.
This is going on our re-read pile, I read this to my kids and they absolutely loved it. The artwork and the visuals of the book are wonderful and we really enjoyed the message the book taught us. We are big beach goers, so teaching our children what is safe and what is hurtful when it comes to sand dollars is so helpful. Such a great story that everyone should read to their kids before heading to the beach.
This simple book helps the reader understand when it is appropriate to collect a sand dollar from the beach. A clever rhyme reminds them when they can keep it and when it must stay behind.
I read this to my son and he loved it! We love looking for sand dollars! A lot of people don’t know how to tell if they are alive or not and we have seen so many people take them when they are still alive and it saddens us! I love the rhyme for people to remember!
Adorable illustrations support this well written children's book. The book is based on a catchy poem teaching the difference between living and dead sand dollars.
Children will remember the poem and relate to the children illustrated in the book, as well as the cute seashore scenes.
I highly recommend this book for anyone taking children to the seashore, or who just love books about the seashore.
