The two main characters are each working at overcoming their past while working at the growing attraction towards one another. A good story with good characters.
This is a good book. The two main characters are Georgie and Landon. There is an instant attraction when they meet. Landon lives next door to Georgie’s aunt and uncle. Georgie works for her mother’s church. Landon is a race car driver. They start dating. They have some problems to work out but when they do, they fall in love.
I absolutely loved this book when I read it I couldn’t put it down it’s was a slow burn but it didn’t disappoint this is the book that got me into reading sport romance books
Bad boy who's trying to find himself - good girl trying to find herself - total opposites, but you know what they say. A good slow burn and some trying circumstances they are each working to get free of make this a bit more than the usual sports romance. Good for a weekend or vacation.
I received this ARC from Netgalley. This review is my own thoughts and honest opinions about the story and authors writing.
This story is a Very Slow Burn. It is shown in a double point of view. It follows Landon, who is a Ex adult movie star turned pro race car driver, and Georgiana, who is the daughter of a televangelist.
Landon is also post relationship from a lover who ended up overdosing after gettin introduced to the wrong people. Georgiana on the other side is way over her head with a religious crisis. Her mother is two faced and has two different sides that she shows the world. One side is what her followers see. The perfect other and Christian. The more dark and sinister side of her is that she is milking her congregation of as much money as she can. As well as having multiple partners that she is having affairs with while her husband is in the hospital on his death bed. What is even worse is that she is using Georgiana to get what she wants.
I will be totally honest the religious aspect of this story bothered me greatly. It hits home so hard with having a narcissistic and controlling parent that puts you down all the time, while putting up a front of being the perfect parent. Beside that I really enjoyed reading this. I liked how both main characters came from tough, broken pasts and have to over come their struggles. With everything they are able to heal and support each other to help each other heal as well.
I really enjoyed the different twists that the Author put within the book. I was not expecting what happened. It did make a super sweet romance into a little bit of a suspense. It’s was defilenty different and I am here for it.
Just eh. Definitely a slow burn romance, but the religiosity in this book was just too much. It took too much of the focus off of the romance.
I thought that this had a really good storyline and I thoroughly enjoyed this story!
The book had a great focus on true love finding a way.
There was determination and strong-willed, well developed characters
The story was heartfelt, romantic and sexy
It is 4 stars from me for this one – highly recommended!
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in return for an honest review.
This book wasn’t quite was I was expecting. I read the synopsis and was expecting a spicy racer romance. Instead, I felt the spice takes a back seat to Georgies story.
Georgie is 20 years old and has been raised by religious parents. Her dad is in a coma in hospital and her mother uses the church she runs as a way of taking money from people to make herself richer. She is also horrible and abusive to Georgie. Landon is just leaving his adult movie career to go back to his first love - formula racing. When they both meet there is an instant connection and we follow them as their romance develops.
I found some aspects of this book rather repetitive - constantly being reminded of Georgies purity ring, that her best friend hasn’t come out yet etc. I also found it hard to warm to the characters and so I think this is what made me enjoy the book less. I wanted to know what happened as Georgie tried to break away from her mother and the church but I wasn’t really rooting for her the way I have wanted the best for characters in other books.
The premise was interesting: sparks fly between Georgie, who works alongside her laughably evil mother at a Hillsong-type megachurch, and Landon, an adult film (pornography) star turned race car driver. They are both dealing with long goodbyes with people they love in the same nursing/hospice facility.
Should have been a big juicy angst-ridden read, right?
However, this book woefully under delivers in terms of substance and style. Stilted dialogue, a closeted character who can't come out in California?!) And oh my goodness so. Much. Preaching.
Just strange choices by the author all the way around. Without spoiling a lot, there’s a very YA vibe to this book despite the very adult industry Landon is trying. to leave behind. I couldn’t connect with the characters or the writing style.
I received an advance reader copy for free from NetGalley in exchange for an. honest review.
A big thank you to NetGalley and Victory Editing for the eARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is an interesting story, definitely a unique story. Sort of religious, sort of confusing but I liked it. Landon is an ex porn star now an upcoming race driver, and Georgie who is a singer and who has unusual family dynamics. 3.5 star
I have mixed feelings about this book. Our heroine, Georgie has been abused by both her parents emotionally and in the case of her mother, also physically. Landon has been working as a porn star in adult films, the two don't seem to make an obvious couple, but when they meet they just can't stay apart.
The story itself was interesting and I didn't want to not read it. However, there was a lot that I didn't like. Firstly, the whole relationship that Georgie had with her parents. Her mother was evil personified. She showed no redeeming qualities. On the other hand, her father was held up as a poor victim himself. While he is a victim, he's also horrible. He allows Georgie's mother to treat her like that. He also gives her some weird thing called a purity ring and puts pressure on her to remain a virgin, as though as her father he's got any kind of agency or control over that.
I found it difficult to connect to any of the characters in the book and while it was good to see Georgie get away from these evil creatures I didn't really warm to any of them and I couldn't see Georgie and Landon lasting long term.
There was quite a bit of repetition and some of the dialogue was stilted and felt unnatural. This might have been why I didn't warm to the characters.
Two stars is possibly a little harsh, I didn't hate it by any means, but I didn't really enjoy the characters or their storyline.
I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own and given voluntarily.
If you look at the cover and description of this book and think spicy motorsport, think again. This is more of a religious cult vibe with some racing scenes which are few and far between (and quite honestly I should have put it down when I first realised I was mistaken).
If this book is targeted towards motorsport fans like I assumed, I believe it is in serious need for a review. The few racing scenes we got in Landon’s POV did not feel as if they were written by someone who frequently watches motorsport. These scenes were riddled with terminology, strategy and logistical flaws. It reads as if these scenes were simplified to make them understandable to readers who aren’t motorsport fanatics, which subsequently makes them unappealing to the target audience. Additionally, while it was marketed as a steamy, I have read more Colleen Hoover scenes that were more spicy than this entire book.
This book had so many characters, many who seemed rather irrelevant and lacked a substantial role in the story. Georgie and Andy are supposed to be 20/21 yet they act like they are 16 and are very much dependent on the adults around them. Ted is a lawyer but he can’t do anything about Tanya and has no connections to other lawyers to help them out either apparently. The dialogue is also incredibly unnatural to a point where it’s just uncomfortable. At times it is used to over explain what’s going on and also as a means to drag the plot along.
There’s also a lot of grammatical errors, including a whole spiel comparing Georgie to Taylor Swift that got repeated and threw me for a loop. Seeing that this book has been released (according to Goodreads) I hope someone picked up on these and fixed them.
Overall, the general concept of this book was average however I came in hoping for a fun racing book and was seriously disappointed when 80% of it was just Tanya being Tanya.
Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and Dawna Raver for this copy of the book however unfortunately this one was just not for me.
I didn't particularly enjoy this book. Even though the characters and plot were well written, there just felt like something was missing. I think the romance didn't fell very long lasting to me.
The backgrounds of the main characters was clearly portrayed and helped understanding the motives behind the characters.
I am grateful to NetGalley and the Publishers for providing me with this ARC.
I received this book as an ARC from Booksirens and Netgalley and this review is based on my own opinion.
When Landon Wilde lost his colleague, he decided to give up his career as an adult movie star to switch back to his old passion; racing.
Georgiana is stuck with her mother who uses her singing talent to get donations for her church. When the retreat she was supposed to go to for a month, gets cancelled, she escapes to her aunts house on the beach.
Where she finds out that Landon is her new neighbour.
Landon and Georgiana hit it off almost immediatly but can the two broken hearts heal together?
Racing Wilde is part of the Playing For Love series but can be read as a standalone.
If you're into steamy, angsty, sports romance this is a great story to read.
In the beginning I struggled a bit to get into the book with Landon being an adult movie star and Georgiana being at church a lot but after a couple chapters the story and characters kept growing on me and I couldn't stop reading. The storyline about Georgiana's family isn't super realistic but it was a fun storyline to make the book interesting.
Personally I would have liked a bit more about Landon and the racing parts because to me the title suggests it would be about racing but apart from that I liked the book.
Yeah!!! A book which is part of a series but has a proper ending!!! Racing Wilde is part of the "Playing For Love" series of standalone books which can be read in any order and with each book being a complete story with an HEA.
Switching his career as an adult movie star to racing, Landon Wilde is loving life again, even if his old life still haunts him in more than one way.
Georgiana is struggling to deal with her viscous mother who's the leader of some dubious religious sect. Trying to find a way out and escaping an arranged marriage, Georgie suddenly gets her chance when her monthlong silent retreat is cancelled with short notice.
The two lonely souls meet and take a liking to each other.
This book provides a bit of slow romance, some intrigue and some rather unlikely events - all woven together into an amusing and enjoyable story!
Enjoy this steamy read with lots of wonderful characters, a storyline which is intriguing and keep you guessing with a HEA that will touch your heart!.
An interesting romp through the porn industry, crack cocaine, church and car racing! There weren’t any dull moments as the book jumped about and flung energy out at pace. The book even manages to contain a drug boss hit and the FBI. It is all a bit far fetched but a good read if you can leave reality behind and just enjoy the ride.
