After absolutely devouring Love, Theoretically by Ali Hazelwood, I knew this one would also be a favorite romance. With this steering away from the Steminist volumes and it being Hazelwood's first romantic, I was so excited to finally get my hands on an ARC copy. This follows a marriage of convenience between Vampire and Werewolf, an unlikely and sometimes dangerous pair that slowly starts to fall for each other when having to work in a union. Bride was such a cute and endearing read with the right amount of tension and spice to keep the reader interested. The dynamic between not only the main couple but also the found family aspect was an added bonus to an already great story being told. Please Ali Hazelwood give me more fantasy romances in the future.

My first five-star read for the year! I was stoked to get an early copy of Ali Hazelwood’s paranormal romance Bride. As someone who was a little bit obsessed with Twilight in its heyday, I tend to steer away from books about vampyres or werewolves because I just end up comparing them all to Twilight, which isn’t fair at all. But I’ve loved everything Hazelwood has published, and I knew she was also a fan of Twilight, so I had faith she would make this genre leap a fun one. I’m happy to say I wasn’t wrong!

I’ve seen another Goodreads reviewer say Bride is a love-letter to Twilight, and I have to say I agree. While there aren’t necessarily identical references, there are similarities, ones that made me smile and feel all warm inside. If I were trying to make literal comparisons, I’d say Lowe, the Alpha Werewolf, is Edward and Misery, the Vampyre, is a mix between Bella and Jacob.

So, if you were ever a Twi-hard shipping Edward and Jacob, maybe this is your story?!

I have a feeling Hazelwood—or maybe the publisher—is trying to distance Bride from Twilight, however, because I haven’t come across anything where she admits the inspiration. But for me, I couldn’t help comparing them.

Lowe is stoic and mysterious, appears to be standoffish in the beginning, but he has a lot on his shoulders: the responsibility of a whole pack and the undertaking of a fragile alliance with the Vampyres.

Misery is snarky and brave, used to being on her own having been shifted between the Vampyres and Humans all her life. She may not care so much about keeping the peace between the Vampyres and Werewolves, but the one thing she does care about has recently disappeared, and she has reason to believe that Lowe is involved somehow.

So it’s easy for her not to protest when she’s tasked with the responsibility of marrying the Alpha Werewolf to encourage peace between the two species.

The best word I can come up with at the moment for Bride is electric! I had so much fun reading this one. It’s a bit of a slow-burn romance, with plenty of humor, angst, and twists to keep the reader locked in. I desperately hope this will be a series. And Bride goes on my list of books to reread!

HOW GOOD WAS THIS BOOK?!

It’s absolutely possible it just happened to find me at the right time- but oh my gosh, this was fantastic. I enjoyed this so much more than I anticipated I would & I’m now hoping that Ali Hazelwood will stick to writing fun fantasy- the humor was perfection and it perfectly balanced out the relatively high stakes of the story.

Thank you so much @prhaudio & @berkleypub!

First of all, thank you so much to Berkley for the advanced copy of this book!
Absolutely loved! Bride was such a fun divergence for Hazelwood from her last few publications. The spice was SPICE-ING if you know what I mean. I’m really enjoying where Hazelwood is going with the urban fantasy writing and I hope she continues! More of this!! It’s so fun, I wish it were longer. That’s one of my main complaints: I want more of the world. More detail, more background, more world building. It felt slightly surface level and confusing at times.
The characters were fantastic. I loved our leads, and I loved watching them fall for each other. It was so wrong and yet so right. I loved all the side characters: their siblings, their friends, etc. And while I did see the little twist at the end coming, I loved it all the same. The ending was so satisfying. I’m hoping for another book potentially following a side character from this one (wink wink hint hint)!
I think 4 stars only because I wanted more from the world building - some things felt glossed over or surface level and I wanted more info/depth.

I’m a huge Ali fan and recently met her at a book event in Seattle! I was so excited to be part of Ali’s first step into a light romantasy genre and early too, thanks to Berkley!

I would consider myself a “lite fantasy” gal - and this book was the perfect amount for me. Mystical characters, easy to follow world building, and many similarities to real life. The fantasy aspects were definitely “bite sized” imo. I’m also obsessed with how Misery was written - rebellious, independent, witty, and very sarcastic. So lovable despite her flaws. She and Lowe had absolutely perfect, steamy chemistry and banter.

I started this book on my kindle but I heard such incredible things about the audio that I finished it by renting on audio after release (since PRH Audio denied me boo). I loved the narrators and they made a perfect Misery and Lowe.

I bought copies of this title for just about everyone for Galentines Day!

Thank you so much to Ali, Berkley, NetGalley for the e-galley!

Oh Ali Hazelwood you slayed with this book!!! Who knew that I could fall head over heels for a werewolf shifter and vampire romance?? This book makes me so excited to see what else is in store for the Ali Hazelwood paranormal romance universe (hopefully more knotting).

Her brand of humor was so perfect for this novel, especially when there were plenty of times where it was tense and a lot was going on, we just get a hit of humor and you immediately recognize it as Ali Hazelwood humor. It makes for a delightful reading experience as we witness kidnapping and all kinds of paranormal hijinks.

Excuse me while I obsess over this book for the next year. Wow just wow this was funnnnnn!!! I need more, like can we get a second ? I think I need to reread this already and it only just ended :) started off a little slow and confusing me but once it picked up I couldn’t put it down, and the spice was top knot, hehe.

Ali did it again! She had me kicking my little feet and giggling with all the interactions between these characters. I will say, this one was so different because of the paranormal elements BUT somehow made me feel the same as all her other romances. I loved the pop culture references which I typically hate but she made it work seamlessly! I can picture this being a romantic comedy movie now that vampires are back in style!

Loved it and I can't wait to get more stories like this from her!

I'm not entirely sure how I feel about Bride. It wasn't bad, but it needed something. Some parts were slow and didn't pick up until 60-70% into it, I almost DNF'd it.

The world was great and I liked the concept of this, but it wasn't executed the best, imo

•I did like the twist & characters.
•the whole alpha knot thing was weird to me
•the writing was just OK
•last 20% felt rushed
•i feel like there are a lot of unanswered questions still? hm

I don’t even have the words to describe Bride, by Ali Hazelwood besides holy Vampyre/Were 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥!! Thanks @berkleypub for the free #gifted ecopy - this book is available now so get your copy!

I’ve been a vampire fan since I first watched Interview With the Vampire back in the mid 1990s. The premise of this book intrigued me, plus, hello, Ali Hazelwood, so I was super excited to read it. I wasn’t expecting the amount of steam for some reason but I’m totally not complaining. I was here (there?) for it 👏🏼👏🏼

Misery (what an amazing character name) is the daughter of a Vampyre Councilman, and set to marry Lore, the Were Alpha, to forge an inter-species alliance. Yet, Misery has another reason to agree to this marriage - her best friend is missing and she thinks Lore knows something.

We have a bunch of romance tropes, and they go together well. Although there are some overly tropey moments, I really enjoyed this book! It’s unlike anything this author has done before, but now I want more like this!

This book had a very clever tone and I enjoyed the main character's sense of humor, as well as her empathy (something that she would claim that she did not have, which made it even more lovely). I admit that I remain unclear on the mechanics of "knotting" but honestly, I think it's better that way. The notes at the beginning of each chapter that give us the perspective of the hero were a very clever way to give the reader better information on what he was feeling and experiencing, which can be difficult to do in first-person prose.

I’ve never read an Ali Hazelwood book until this one. This book was fun but not amazing. I enjoyed reading it. It grabbed my attention quickly and kept me on my toes but it felt a little too long and underdeveloped. The connection between the two characters felt non existent. The ending was a bit predictable but still made it a fun time and had a lot of potential.

*thank you NetGalley and Berkley publishing for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

This book was fabulous and completely different from what I'm used to seeing from Ali Hazelwood. The author writes some of the best sex scenes in fiction and this book does not disappoint in that area. I loved Misery and Lowe and was captivated by their story, and the war between the vampires and the werewolves, and the intriguing mystery that was weaved into the plot of a marriage of convenience. Overall, a very well-written, very steamy paranormal romance that will be perfect for fans of Ali's, especially those looking for something different from her usual STEM-focused stories. This may be my favorite books of hers yet, and I typically prefer contemporary romance to paranormal romance. 5 stars. I hope she writes more stories in this world, Thank you to Berkley and NetGalley for the DRC in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you to @berkleyromance and @prhaudio for an early copy of this!

Short synopsis: In order to maintain alliance with the werewolves, Misery a Vampyre is forced to marry the Alpha Lowe. Meanwhile, she’s searching for best friend that’s gone missing.

My thoughts: I think this is my first paranormal romance since Twilight, and it did not disappoint. I loved the relationship that developed between Misery and Lowe, and cute Ana was such a fun addition to the story bringing a bit “single dad vibes” to the story. This one is quite open door and has a sizzling punch to it.

I’m typical “Ali Hazelwood” fashion she included some great STEM rep and references. I love how she includes such strong intelligent women in all of her books!

I could have used more Lowe POV chapters for sure, it would have been so interesting to get more from his brain as far as the budding romance, the role of the Alpha, and the politics involved. Also, this ending was set up wonderfully for a part 2!

The narrators for the audio totally blew this story away! I loved the male narration at the beginning of the chapters. So well done.

Read if you love:
- Paranormal romance - Vampyre/Were
- Great side characters
- Forbidden love
- Arranged marriage/Fake wedding

Absolutely loooved this book! I'm petitioning for Ali to move into the paranormal world from now on because this was so much fun and done so well. It even had her signature steminist touch! It still reads like a typical romance, so I think its a great intro to paranormal for those that have been hesitant in the past! Highly recommend this one!

What is it about Ali Hazelwood's books that make them just so dang fun to read??? Super strong start to the story, and her chapter headers from Lowe's POV just about made me swoon every time --can we please have his POV? Please? It's hilarious, swoony, and just so addictive. Love the refreshing take on vampyres and weres, and I think she did a fantastic job. Knocking this out of the park yet again. Just keep 'em coming!
