This was so fun. I didn't expect to like this book so much! Lowe and Misery were great characters and their connection actually felt natural. There was humor and spice and it was overall just an enjoyable read.
The development in their relationship wasn't abrupt and I actually love how they bickered more and more as the story progressed. The banter was so funny and I loved how Misery was so sassy, just like I loved how Lowe was so cute with his technologically illiterate struggles despite being an Alpha. I also really liked the sentences that we get before each chapter that kind of showed how Lowe was feeling.
The thing I liked the most about this story was the casual and unhidden affection that grew between them and how Lowe was not afraid to show it. I just wish we got to see more of the side characters, especially more of how Misery interacted with the Weres. I would have loved to see more of how she would fit in with them. But for the most part, Lowe and Misery were very strong and likeable characters and they were so funny together. This book is just missing a little bit of a shock factor since there were many predictable things, especially towards the end. I also didn't love how Misery and (mostly) Lowe handled the conflict and I definitely think there needed to be more groveling. Despite all this, this is a quick read and I ended up liking it more than I would have ever expected!
I thought this was really well written and I look forward to reading more from this author in the future. I think it will find readers at our library, so we will definitely be purchasing for the collection.
Bride by Ali Hazelwood
I really enjoy Ali Hazelwood's books, but I will admit that this genre shift didn't work for me very well. I know I'm in the minority here, which is why I will absolutely be recommending this book to my patrons, but it was a bit too dark for me personally. I also didn't like the heroine, Misery (what a terrible name). She's lacking in intelligence and is not a very interesting character. I would have liked more world building, too. There's little to no explanation for how things work, and I feel like the fact that the characters are vampyres and werewolves has little importance to the story. This whole story could have happened between any opposing groups of people. I didn't feel immersed in the story, and descriptions of people and places were very bland. I got some major Twilight vibes, too. Lowe really hates how Misery smells. lol. He's broody, an artist, is obsessed with her and she barely cares at first, he growls... sounds like Edward to me. All in all, I'm disappointed and will be sticking to Ali's contemporaries from here on out.
I really don’t have much to say about this one aside from I LOVED IT. It’s Ali Hazelwood so it’s a given that I would but this also had all of my favourite tropes- that worked so well within the plot, a sassy hilarious heroine I adore, and I just really loved the way everything unfolded.
Maybe my favorite of Ali Hazelwood’s books. It’s just so fun and escapist—reminds me of the paranormal romance craze in the 2000s.
My favorite read of 2024 so far. I'm an Ali girl through and through and she never disappoints. Vampyres and werewolves are so back!!
Hazlewood cannot write characters that I don't love, it is just impossible. Lovers of traditional romance, and fantasy romance will both love this book. Seriously from 80% on I COULD NOT PHYSICALLY PUT IT DOWN!!! Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an e-arc in exchange for an honest review.
Ali Hazelwood, girl.. I think your calling is writing paranormal romance because wow I haven't read THIS GOOD of a vampire/were romance in ages.
I'm just so in love with everything about this book. Misery and Lowe... a vampire and werewolf... who have the BEST SLOW BURN TO EXIST.
I'm obsessed. This was *chefs kiss*
I mean the romance with the spicy scenes, the little bit of mystery, world building and politics, found family, and fated mates!!! I loved this entire book from start to finish!!
Lowe is now a new top tier book boyfriend. 🥺❤️
This was my first Ali Hazelwood book and it did not disappoint!
I wasn’t new to the world of “knotting” so it didn’t come as a shock to me as most readers.
This was a fun alpha romance and I hope to see more of this from Hazelwood!
This book feels like the cozy, steamier version on TCOTAR. And I say that as a the highest compliment. I’m in and waiting for the sequel.

Review: I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. I read a book or two by Ali Hazelwood and realized the “science/STEM woman books weren’t for me. This book had vampires and warewolves (hello sign me up). It was like a cross between monster high, twilight, vampire diaries and all the things. I love Misery’s character. How just nonchalant she was about everything regarding being vampire lol. I loved her jokes and banter and thought she was super funny. I did enjoy Ali’s character but you honestly don’t get much from him (i wish this had been a dual POV. I listened to the audio and followed along in the book. I feel like as much as i lived the narrator for Misery’s voice i was turned off by her “man voice” for the spicy scenes which brought it down a star for me. The audio felt super awkward for all the spicy scenes and wish i had just read them without the audio. The spice was unexpected and nice though for the book. I loved the fact that Misery found her “tribe” of people after feeling like An outcast her whole life. Very glad i decided to give this book a chance. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ stars for this one .

A NEW ALI HAZELWOOD! Especially with it being about vampires and werewolves?? Yes please. I loved Bride. Someone described it as Romantasy, and that's perfect! SO GOOD.
Rating: 4.5 Stars
I was surprised at how fascinating BRIDE by Ali Hazelwood was. Having read her previous novels, it was nice to see her branch out of her usual style and try something new. Ali Hazelwood’s foray into paranormal contemporary fiction is perhaps her best work yet. 🩸
That said, BRIDE had well-fleshed out characters and a slow-burn plot, coupled with a marriage of convenience between the Vampyre (yes - it’s spelt with a ‘y’) and Werewolf in their society. The characters were in their twenties and follows the tropes that are common in her previous novels (only that this time, they’re Vampyres and Werewolves).
The world building was simple, leaving three categories separated into the Human, Vampyre and Werewolf territories. Plot wise, we learn about how Were’s work from a firsthand perspective of Misery’s marriage to the Alpha, Lowe - a Were. The mysterious aspects of the plot didn’t overshadow the romantic aspects of the novel. I also liked Lowe’s sister who brought so much life and joy to the book.
The final parts of the book was unputdownable and the twists and turns BRIDE took was completely unexpected.
This book was a vampire, werewolf crossover that was giving omegaverse and I wasn't mad about it. I've enjoyed Ali Hazlewoods other works so was interested to see her step outside the realm of women in stem. This had the same enjoyable, easy to get through vibe to it that her other books have and I am looking forward to see what she comes up with next!
I am absolutely kicking myself for letting this sit on my shelf for so long before picking it up! I adore the author’s contemporary romances so I immediately requested this when I saw she had a new book coming out. However, I was a little apprehensive about what an Ali Hazelwood paranormal romance would be. Turns out I had nothing to worry about - Bride was compulsively readable and so much fun! I loved Misery and Lowe’s story and I hope we get more books in this genre from Hazelwood!
My new favorite Ali Hazelwood! The romantasy genre is definitely the space for her, she weaves her romance so so well within the world of vampires and werewolves - I'm praying we get a book 2!
5 stars = Outstanding!
I loved this! This is my first Ali Hazelwood, and it was right up my alley. I enjoyed the paranormal elements and world building here. The larger story fit perfectly around the romance, and I enjoyed both. There are hints at the end towards a sequel, and I am here for it. In the meantime, I will be catching up on all of Hazelwood's other books. (Language, sex)
My goodness I devoured this book. I started it a few weeks ago when I had some hours to kill in a bookshop and wine bar. I read what I could there, but was itching to get back home to finish. Of course, I had some other stuff pop up that I had to focus on, but I just was able to get back to it and I didn’t want to put it down!! This is just another example of why Ali Hazelwood continues to be a good read for me. I love the snarky banter, but also the tender romantic moments just make me want to squeal. Especially when the MMC is a grump but actual a soft plush underneath it all. Ali’s veering into paranormal romance was a success in my book, and I’d be interested to see if she does others!
Listen - if Ali Hazelwood writes it, I'm going to read it and eat that shit UP. I was so psyched when I heard that she would be dipping her toes into paranormal romance (outside of fanfiction) and boy did she deliver. This was way too fun - I want like a dozen more books set in this world, please (or at least more paranormal romance). The dynamics between Misery and Lowe were just too good - even on their tension filled wedding day the sparks were flying. I really loved the small snippets of Lowe's POV we got at the top of every chapter. They were a fascinating insight into his POV and how much he was pining.
if you wanted bella to end up with jacob as a preteen, this book is definitely for you!! once you understood the paranormal hierarchy, it was easy sailing! it was such a fun read!! overall, 4/5 ⭐'s
