A breathtaking conclusion to the Ghostcloud duology centering around, hope, trust, friendship and kindness to reunite our quartet and save London.
After escaping from Battersea Station, Luke still regrets leaving his friend Ravi behind while trying to adjust to his new life with his family. During the day, Luke is an apprentice detective and at night he’s helping Alma guide lost souls to their final journeys on his kite cloud. Although Luke is part of both worlds he sometimes questions whether he belongs and whether his choices are correct.
We meet quite a bit of old and new friends in this book. Since the book centers around Luke, we get to understand Jess and Alma’s personality the most. It was nice to read about their situations, witness their strengths and their ambitions for the future. However, we do delve deeper into Tabatha’s and Terrence’s reasoning for their actions; meet new family members and friends as well as some newer personalities who are in it for themselves. You will constantly be guessing if characters are good or bad and whether they could have done things differently.
The plot is well developed and progresses quite evenly throughout. There are a lot of unexpected twists and turns which were believable. Minute details all add up in the end and there were times I thought our characters were getting too lucky, only to be fooled on the next page. This was an exciting thriller to read because time never stopped in this book and our characters never stopped moving towards their end goal.
It was inspiring to read about kids who weren’t giving up even when things got tough and they didn’t have a well thought out plan. What mattered was their friends and family, and that was all the reason for them to do something.
I loved the little moments when Alma talked about the afterlife. It felt naturally placed in the story and wasn’t too heavy or morbid. I felt as though Alma was saying it with respect and emotion yet a firm certainty. I personally haven’t read a book where I felt untroubled when reading about the afterlife, until this one.
Overall, this was an action packed, thrilling adventure. I loved every bit of it, from our wholesome characters to our egocentric villains. The writing was beautiful as it interwove emotions, scenic descriptions and character interactions seamlessly. I definitely recommend everyone to give this duology a read as you’ll be surprised!
A new book from Michael Mann causes great excitement in this house and this lived up to that excitement. A great follow up book . The children adored it and I must say that I was quite impressed myself.
Thanks to Netgalley and Holiday House for accepting my request to read this e-arc

I read Ghostcloud (the first book in this duology) earlier this month and it was super cute! It was quite dark for a middle-grade, but I think that will be appreciated as a change of pace from typical middle-grades. This follows on well from Ghostcloud, with Nightspark being about their lives after the destruction of Battersea Station. We see more from Tabatha, but this had a few characters surprising me and a lot more of the found family aspect going on. Less whimsical cloud-flying more friend-saving and seriousness. I was very happy to find this sequel on Netgalley as it crosses another series off my list!
