You can’t believe what school kids say, can you? The kids are all talking about The Woodsman who steals children. If only it could all be brushed off. Several kids are truly missing though.
Detective Josie Quinn and the rest of the Denton police are working hard on the missing children. The first case is two sisters who go for a walk in the woods and are now missing.
As the team digs, there are disturbing clues that come to light. This one has a mysterious cabin in the woods, near an important part of one of Josie’s past crimes. A bloodhound is called into action and the police continue to investigate yet another missing child. Is the Woodsman a legend or the truth?
Lisa Regan has created an amazing character in Josie Quinn and she’s still going strong on book #18. The pacing was great in this one and a great mix of police work and the personal story of Josie. I love these characters and this one had a particularly strong ending that I did not see coming.
Nothing beats a kindle mystery series that you and your mom are obsessed with and the latest installment in the Josie Quinn series (book 18!!!!) by Lisa Regan nothing but delivers the best!
Our overworked, dedicated, strong detective Josie Quinn has been through it time and time again. Now dealing with the tragic aftermath from the previous book’s conclusion, she has to learn how to move on with solving tough cases and with loss. To make matters worse, the myth of the Woodsman has returned and making good on the mystery of two go into the woods but only one returns. With a major but satisfying twist to the killer after lots of dead ends, Lisa Regan knows how to capture a reader’s attention. I would’ve loved to see more from some of our favorite supporting characters who are always around but somehow absent in this book, and the ending felt somewhat abrupt. But knowing there’s a lot more of Josie Quinn coming, seeing the self-improvements she’s making to take care of herself, and the team dynamic always makes for an incredible read. If you haven’t started this series but love police procedural mysteries, I highly recommend this series!
Detective Josie Quinn are back at it. A teenager has gone missing, the family is frantic, Josie will work tirelessly for answers. The team has learned that neighboring counties have had similar cases. What is going on?
Rumors and lore of a mystery creature “The Woodsman” who takes kids are swirling and there is no stopping once a local reporter gets a hold of the story adding fuel to the communities fears.
As usually Josie and her team will follow the evidence but where that takes them will be a heart pounding, unimaginable ending.
Absolutely gripping.
Thank you #NetGalley #Bookouture #MyChildIsMissing for this ARC
I have said it before and I will say it again. I love this Author’s writing. This series is the best! The characters are incredible and this story is phenomenal. My jaw hit the floor at the ending, seriously. Could not have anticipated that one! Thanks to NetGalley, Bookoutre and the Author for allowing me to read and review this book.
Have enjoyed all the previous books in the Josie Quinn series and this one hit the mark. Plenty of suspense throughout and likeable characters. Look forward to the next one. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to review it.
Detective Josie Quinn is vulnerable, tenacious, caring and more. She is human, still dealing with the loss of a co worker, (Yes this can be read as a stand alone, but I highly recommend reading in order) and sleep seems illusive. Now a two girls are missing and during the search they learn the tale of the Woodsman., Takes 2 people, kills one and one survives. Josie, Noah and her team prepare to scour the woods looking for clues. Luke, his K9 Blue are on hand and this book takes off and never really slows down. We have a few peaceful moments with Misty and Harris. I did not expect the ending, I think I had some thoughts but they never really sank in. It amazes me when a series can keep on going and still feel fresh. I am hoping this runs like JD Robb's In Death Series. I would be rolling in happiness. Thank you for the arc. I freely volunteer my thoughts and opinions.#MyChildIsMissing #DetectiveJosieQuinn #LisaRegan #NetGalley #Bookouture
Rumours have being spread of "The Woodsman" - when two children enter the woods only one will return alive !
Fact or fiction ?
When Kayleigh and her sister Savannah don't return from a walk in the woods Detective Josie Quinn and the Denton Police Department race to investigate . Savannah is soon found by the search and rescue dog team , terrified but alive - where is her sister ?
Josie soon finds that Kayleigh and Savannah are not the first to disappear in this manner , others are also missing in surrounding areas which feeds The Woodsman legend . Leads are few and far to find but one points to a dark cabin in the woods - Kayleigh's prints are found inside , the cabin owner has an alibi .
It will only take one clue to break the case but where will they find it ? Kayleigh is still out there , missing - alive or dead she needs to be found .
This is a fast paced, addictive thriller , with twists and turns around every corner . Josie makes for a compelling trauma led Detective who is determined to put her past where it needs to be - in the past , but true to form it raises its ugly head just when she needs it the least .
I look forward to reading more Josie Quinn novels in the future
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own
Detective Josie Quinn is one of my favourite police series in books. I don’t know how Lisa Regan keeps coming up with these exciting stories. Once again Josie and her team are up to their necks in another puzzling crime.
In this book,18, of the series, Lisa Regan gives a few insights, at the beginning, into Josies past. So, anyone can read this and have an idea of the previous books, but these stories are so good it’s a good idea to read them from the beginning.
In this episode the team are looking for a child snatcher, who the locals have nicknamed The Woodsman. This brings all sorts of problems for Josie.
The end of the book is well written and thought out, I definitely didn’t see that coming.
Thank you to Netgalley and the author for the opportunity to read and review this book.
I'm going to say what I always say, which is that it's hard to think of new things to say this far into a series. I will also say the other thing I always say, which is that the fact that I'm this far into the series should stand alone as a review. In addition, whenever I read mystery/thrillers, my mind is constantly working to puzzle them out. (I've recently learned that like all of my personality traits, apparently, this is because of my ADHD. Our ability to (hyper)focus on patterns means that we're good at solving mysteries/predicting endings. See also: me in the theater for The Sixth Sense, realizing the twist in the first scene.)
Anyway, I say all that to say that my busy mind came up with a solution to this story, like oooh, what if [prediction]? And that prediction turned out to be true. But instead of being disappointed, as I'm sometimes am, because the conclusions seems foreshadowed in neon, I found this book to be very fulfilling. Throughout the book, is only the barest hint toward the ending, and in turn, it plays out in a very satisfying way.
Lisa Regan never fails to keep me riveted to the edge of my seat with her Josie Quinn books. This book focused on the "legend of the Woodsman" which is a creepy story that has been making its way around Denton. Supposedly an evil man is lurking in the woods who steels children away from their parents. As the story spread, the Woodsman "Challenge" has gone viral. It entails two kids going into the woods looking for the Woodsman and if both make it out, they win the challenge. Unfortunately for Josie and her crew, several pairs of kids have taken the challenge and not won- meaning only one has come out alive. The Denton PD is still recovering from the horrors and losses of their last big case. Healing takes time and time might not running out for Josie to solve this new case.
The latest Josie Quinn book finds her investigating when a teenage girl goes missing. Local kids keep talking about the Woodsman, and blaming him for her disappearance. Josie thinks he is just myth, but as she investigates and finds more disappearances, she realizes that maybe someone is hunting teenage kids in Denton.
Another great entry in this series! I really liked the twist here, and actually didn't see it coming. Regan even game some sprinkling of hints, but I wasn't able to get it. We get a little character development with Josie and Noah, but it isn't the focus here. Also, we still don't have a new detective in the squad. I thought maybe at the end one would be announced, but looks like I'll just have to keep reading to find out!
Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for my copy in exchange for a honest review!
Detective Josie Quinn is unstoppable. In this mystery , she sets out to find the killer who is targeting young women in the woods. Once again, she will wade through all of the evidence and leads to uncover the killer! These books are hard to put down!
I consider the Detective Josie Quinn series to be one of my favorites and it's one that I've been following since the very first book was published back in 2018. I'm always excited when a new sequel pops up on my kindle, because this series just keeps delivering one fantastic story after the other. In fact, this series hasn't failed me yet! And I'm happy to announce that My Child Is Missing is no exception to that rule, and I literally read this newest sequel in one sitting.
Before I continue, I do have to give a little warning that this is a series that focuses a lot of the personal development of the character as well as the investigations. It's important to read the books in order both to avoid major spoilers and to properly understand the dynamics between the different characters. While you can technically read My Child Is Missing as a stand-alone and the story gives hints at past events, I don't think the story will have the same impact without all that background information. The whole series is fantastic, and it's well worth your time catching up in the first place.
I've been looking forward to see how things continue after such an explosive (and shocking!) book seventeen, and there is no doubt that the past events affect Josie and the rest of her team in the present. Thankfully we get a little breather as the case itself won't hit on a personal level this time around... Which was necessary if you ask me, because I'm still not over what happened in the previous book. That said, the case in My Child Is Missing is without doubt an intriguing one, and there are plenty of suspects to keep you busy along the way. I definitely never saw that big twist coming, that's for sure!
There is just something about the writing style that is extremely engaging, and I never seem to be able to stop reading once I start the first chapter. My Child Is Missing was no different, and I kept turning page after page until I suddenly reached the end... This whole series is simply highly addictive, and this has a lot to do with the main characters and their development as well. I always have such a great time meeting up with Josie and the rest again, and it's been great spending time with them over the years.
There is no doubt that My Child Is Missing is another excellent detective thriller sequel, and it's already book number 18 of a series that shows no signs of slowing down. If you like your thrillers on the fast, intense and action-packed side, this is definitely a series to keep in mind. Things can be said about the credibility of certain aspects of the plots, but the entertainment factor is always high.
What a creepy, intriguing plot!
The Woodsman legend is two go in and only one comes out.
Is it just a story spread around by others?
Is it a myth?
Is it just a twisted story shared during campfires?
How far will Josie have to go to find the killer before more innocent lives are lost?
It was nice getting to know Josie more. I can’t wait to see what happens in her life next…..
My Child is Missing is another mind-blowing installment in the Detective Josie Quinn series. Lisa Regan’s writing is always solid and mind blowing.
Recommended series!
Many thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture and author, Lisa Regan, for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
Two kids go into the woods, but only one comes out… so the lore of “The Woodsman” goes. Detective Josie Quinn doesn’t believe in fantasy tales, but someone abducted 16 year old Kayleigh Patchett. And when another teen turns up dead in the woods, Josie has no choice but to assume they have a serial killer on their hands. With her team still reeling from the loss of one of their own, Josie, Noah, and Gretchen begin an investigation that puzzles them at every turn. Who abducted Kayleigh Patchett and how does it connect to the tales children tell on the playground?
I loved the way that they included Mettner in this book. It felt realistic to the circumstances. I also really liked that the subject of this one was foreshadowed in book 17. As usual, Lisa Regan did a fantastic job! I’ve read about Josie since the beginning and I can’t wait to see what happens next!
Children in Denton have been whispering about the legend of the Woodsman who takes children in the woods. The rumour is that when two kids go into the woods, only one comes out. Detective Josie Quinn refuses to believe that such a person exists but the rumour has been further fuelled by the disappearance of two teenagers from neighbouring counties, while their friend who went into the woods with them escaped unhurt. Now a similar case has occurred in Denton. Two sisters Kayleigh, 16 and Savannah, 8 went for a walk in the woods behind their house and didn’t come home. With the help of Luke and his dog Blue, they found Savannah on her own, saying that the Woodsman had taken Kayleigh.
Lisa Reagan has taken the ‘missing child’ trope and turned it on its head to bring us a very twisty (or perhaps that should be twisted) mystery. Josie and her team at Denton PD have a difficult mystery on their hands. They work hard to look into potential suspects who could have taken Kayleigh but with little result. They also investigate Kayleigh’s poor relationship with her parents and classmates, thinking her abductor might be someone she knows. The team are still grieving for their colleague detective Finn Mettner, killed in the line of duty while protecting Josie and the long hours and stress of the investigation are not helping Josie’s plan to become pregnant. One of the best features about this series is Lisa Regan’s ongoing development of the characters and their relationships and I’m looking forward to seeing what’s next for Josie.
Another home run! Grabs you from page one and holds on tight through page after page of suspense!
Amazing characters that we all know and love. A wonderful spine tingling plot. And an explosive ending you won’t see coming. A rollercoaster of twists and turns. Absolutely unputdownable! This needs to be at the top of your must read list.
My Child Is Missing is book 18 in Lisa Regan's Josie Quinn series and Regan has left me speechless (which seldom happens). I've said this a few times, but this is the best one yet! I thought I would be tired of this series, by now, but I cannot wait for #19!
In My Child Is Missing, children are going missing in the woods. The Woodsman is blamed by many, bit is the Woodsman real? Josie Quinn and her team are on the case of the missing children, and they are up against a lot of twists and turns. Each time they think they've discovered the truth, something else comes out to change the course of their investigation. Will the Josie Quinn team find out where the children have disappeared to and who's responsible before more children go missing? Once this book is in your hands, you won't want to put it down until you know the truth!
Thank you #Netgalley, #Bookouture, and
#LisaRegan for the advanced readers copy of this excellent book!
Great book in this fabulous series and from the start the suspense is there, with missing children who have gone into the woods and not all returned.
The storyline of The Woodsman and him taking children at will is a folklore that is being told in the local schools. Students are daring each other to go into the woods to see if they return safely.
There are some great suspenseful moments and the characters are well established so as readers we can see how hard the police are working to find the perpetrators.
Would recommend this is you enjoy a good series with a police procedural background with some great storylines.
Thanks to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
This book is well written and has a good plot and excellent characters like the rest of the series. What isn't so good, are the chapters with the Woodsman in first person POV. The book would be better without them.
