I haven't read a YA novel in a very long time and I was pleasantly surprised by this one! It had me guessing the identity of the killer multiple times. I really enjoyed the writing style!

Thank you so much to NetGalley for my ARC!

✨Book Review - The One That Got away With Murder✨

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

*I was provided this book free of charge by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*

I am OBSESSED with this book! I didn’t expect to love it as much as I did. It was nearly impossible to put down and I stayed up way too many late nights in a row when I had no time to do so to finish it.

The main character, is relatable as a teen that is just curious enough to be believable. The ending kept me guessing the ENTIRE time, yet was believable in the real world. I desperately want to talk to someone about this book but NO ONE HAS READ IT YET! So I need to get everyone to read it so I have someone to talk about it with!

Read this book and then talk about it with me! Please!

Thank you Netgalley, the author and the publishers for letting me read an advanced copy and letting me review it.
I really liked reading the book called One that got away with murder by Trish Lundy. It was a refreshing young adult/ adult thriller mystery to read curled up by the fireplace on a fall afternoon. This book was fast paced, kept readers on the edge of their seats with every twist and turn, secrets & revelations that come out. Throughout this book I really enjoyed the strong character developments and how they were more realistic compared to other mystery/ thriller books. This book gave me the feeling I used to have when I would read the Pretty little liars book series, which I loved. People who love books like that series should definitely read this novel by Trish Lundy.

Thank you, NetGalley and Macmillan Children's Publishing Group, Henry Holt and Co. for the copy of The One That Got Away with Murder by Trish Lundy. I love reading debut novels, especially when they’re this good! I really liked how the book jumped right into the story and two of the characters’ relationship and right away I was shocked and intrigued. (I’m way too old to be the targeted demographic for this novel, so I have a feeling younger people won’t be shocked, just FYI.)
The characters were believable, and even if they weren’t particularly likable, I found myself getting invested in their lives. I loved this multifaceted story and it really kept me guessing until the end, and I think you’ll love it too!

this book was so much fun! i loved that there were basically two mysteries in this - the murder mystery of robbie and trevor's girlfriends, but then also the mystery of lauren's past with the incriminating fire. i thought the murder mystery was plotted out well; it was definitely a page-turner and i couldn't wait to see it all unfold.

i also adored lauren and robbie's relationship, but i do wish we got a bit more romance between them.

if you enjoyed "a good girl's guide to murder", definitely check this out!

Thank you to NetGalley for the advance review copy in return for an honest review. Trish Lundy killed her debut novel. This fast paced thriller was super fun to read. I figured out who the killer was pretty fast? But it was still really exciting to see it all unfold.

3.5
First half was very fast paced and was interested on how the story is being weaved but towards the middle it got a bit slow which i just took as tease. Did I enjoy it? I did. Was it “meh” at times? it was.
Still entertaining and a good read.

Thank you NetGalley for this copy. The one that got away with murder started off very excited & really pulled me. However, towards the middle some of the details began to feel repetitive. Also the motive of the murderer was very unclear. & just felt a little too unrealistic.

wow this was so good!! I had my doubts during the first chapter, but it quickly cemented itself as one of my favorite pageturning thrillers of this fall!
I love an unreliable narrator, and Lauren was definitely that. I loved the hazy fragments of the past that were dropped in, it really represented how we can't fully trust her memories and neither can she.
and the ENDING! I never saw that coming!
Great job Trish Lundy, I'm eagerly awaiting when your next book is released.

I absolutely loved this book!!

The Cresmont Brothers accused of murdering their ex-girlfriends and getting away with it because of their financial status, meet Lauren. Lauren is a girl with a dark past of her own and refuses to be anyone’s next victim. Will she be able to figure out who the real murderer is?

This definitely kept me entertained, I needed to keep reading to figure out what happened. Definitely gave me Holly Jackson vibes and I was loving it.

Thank you for approving me to read the ARC

A good read. Kept my interest throughout. I was actually able to decide the bad guy about halfway through. I usually know by a quarter of the way in. Written well and kept my interest. I feel may be better and more interesting to the teen set than older adults. Ending seemed to leave the reader hanging as no definitive end really came through. Perhaps we have a book 2 in the works.

Very fast paced. The beginning of this book was a page turner for me. It had a lot of potential but I kind of got bored in the middle. All in all I did enjoy the book. Thanks for the opportunity to read this.

This book was intriguing from page one. One of my favorite things about it was how the characters were introduced, you never got any background about them until they were cleared of murder (or unless Lauren, John, and Robbie were trying to determine if they were guilty). The (extremely complex) characters unfold with the plot, like an SVU episode (a show that has kept us on our toes for 2 decades now, so I'd say that's good company to have).

I only gave the book 4 stars though because I was left a little unsatisfied. It seems like all of the "villains" got off lightly. Is coach really preying after younger girls? And nothing else escalated put of the Donovan situation? Those two aren't that important for us to know, given that the book was supposed to be realistic and the reality is that not all of these situations get revealed to the public, but I'm nosy. My main dislike was the lack of motivation on Mark's part. During the overview of Mark's actions, he states that Lauren "was the chosen one" that he picked back in California, then a few paragraphs later, he states that Lauren would've lived had she not revealed Ainsley's drug habit. WHAT made Lauren so intriguing to him? And why did he get the urge to even kill Victoria in the first place?

Overall, this was one of the better books that I've read all year. I love when a character suffers, though I felt really really bad for Robbie by the end of the book.

"The One That Got Away with Murder" was a wonderful young adult suspense/mystery/true crime type of read. I enjoyed the building of the plot and the main character was easily likeable. I also was really rooting for the love interest who we really couldn't trust.

I LOVE reading good murder mysteries. I just tend to be picky about the ones I read. I; so glad that I gave this one a chance.

What I loved so much about this particular book is how much it focused on the characters. It was so character driven that it tended to put the actual conflict on the backburner at times.

After a catastrophic event occurs, Lauren and her mother feel their only option is to move across the country leaving California and their past behind so she can have a more normal senior year of high school. Immediately, she finds herself involved with Robbie who is connected, along with his brother, to the unsolved murders of their girlfriends. The small town has already rendered their guilty verdict even though neither brother was ever arrested and continue to claim their innocence.

Lauren, trying to heal from her own ordeal, finds herself nose deep into trying to solve the murder.. She finds that she can’t run from her past. Throughout, there are hints and small drops of minor facts that are like the border pieces of a puzzle, but never quite able to get any of the center pieces.

The pacing was effective and moved smoothly. It was a quick and engaging read that provided plenty of red herrings to keep it interesting. Details of Lauren's past as well as the murder of the girls are slowly provided at moments when you think you might finally be figuring it out.

It’s a pretty solid read. I appreciate the flawed and unreliable characters that fill this book as well as the red herrings that continually led me in one direction only to find out I was wrong.

Personally this book was not my cup of tea! That doesn’t mean that it won’t be yours though so I definitely encourage you to read it ! The plot was just a little too slow to get in to for me.

Whooooo boy. I am a lover of mystery novels and watch true crime documentaries like they're Spongebob episodes and this book was RIGHT up my alley! Add to the fact that it wasn't one of those boring cookie cutter novels that you can see the suspect coming from a mile away and it's absolutely perfect! I enjoyed the characters and the flow of the story.

I sat on the couch and read the whole book. I was dying to figure out who it was. Even thought I had an inclination all along, the author made sure it was always a question on my mind. While some details felt repetitive, it was an overall quick, easy and enjoyable read.

I truly enjoyed this book, which combines the themes and storytelling of other books in the genre by Holly Jackson and the Teen Killers Club series. The narrative surrounds a main character named Lauren, who moves across the country to Pennsylvania from California after a fire she causes. She and her single mother are trying to start anew, but the first person that Lauren starts hooking up with is a town pariah. she's trying to keep her own secrets and fit in on her new soccer team, but between dating Robbie and tell-all gossip Instagram, it isn't easy. especially when the love interest and his brother are suspects in the death of not one but two of her classmates’ friends. Before long, Lauren is in deep trying to solve the small town’s mysteries and discover whether or not the boy she's been sleeping with is, in fact, a killer. If all that wasn’t enough, her mom has a new boyfriend who’s around ALL. THE. TIME.

Plenty of twists and turns and room for the main characters to grow beyond their past traumas. I think the only thing keeping this from being a five is the heel turn on the storytelling point of view for a few brief chapters so we get a glimpse of the mind of the killer. However, it was a bit jarring, and the motivation is left unclear other than that the killer just can/has an inclination.

Overall, a good book. Read it in one day.
