All Souls Lost brings together urban fantasy, techno-thriller intrigue and noir-ish detective fiction in a satisfying mixture. We meet our main character, a private investigator with knowledge of the supernatural, as he is reluctantly dragged back into the life he fled after the uncanny death of his partner. As the story unfolds, we meet an array of allies, uneasy fellow travellers, and surprising adversaries, each shedding more light on our protagonist's background as well as the larger forces at play in this world. Reminiscent of Jim Butcher's Dresden Files while breaking new ground, All Souls Lost is a strong introduction to a new setting (and new genre for Dan Moren, who has previously published several sci-fi espionage novels). Looking forward to seeing what comes next.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC!

I really enjoyed this book. Mike Lucifer, a supernatural detective, returns to town after 2 years. He doesn't plan on taking on new clients, but is sucked into one last case after the death of a young tech guy peaks his interest.

I loved the TV show, Lucifer on Netflix, and this had a lot of those vibes.

I will admit, it was hard for me to get into. It took me a few days to get through the first half. It ended up getting a bit more fast paced and easier to dive into after that!

While I appreciate this might be a tongue in cheek homage to books like Dresden Files and Rivers of London ..a detective with a special coat and hat, a ghost haunting the office, a love hate with a female police officer who is the only one that will give him time of day, magical wards, coins, connections through the city where you threaten or bribe magical store owners who also have love/hate relationships. People who can sense magic, different types of magic and werewolves. A battered old car, no use of technology as it interferes with the magic. I mean the serial numbers don't even seem to be filed off...

Fell very flat for me.

I usually stick to reading police procedurals but am I ever glad I veered off my path and chose to read this book. Thank you NetGalley for the eARC copy.

Mike Lucifer, supernatural detective, is back in town. Mike left town after the death of his protege and partner a couple years back. Mike isn't planning on taking any new cases. He's happily wallowing in his guilt over his partner's death. He just wants to shut up shop, head back to a nice warm beach, and drink himself into oblivian. Mike's not going to get his own way. He's sufficiently curious about the death of a young techie to take on this one last case for the techie's girlfriend.

It's an excellent, well written book. I enjoyed the characters and hope it becomes a series.

I just finished this novel and the end said this was a standalone novel. I really, really sincerely hope not. Mike Lucifer is a downtrodden character who is wracked with guilt at the death of his business partner, and he’s drawn into one last case before he goes back to being miserable. What follows is a well-written, wonderful book where we see the life of a supernatural detective put to rights after a huge case and lots of action. This was a exceptional book, and I hope the author decides to write more in this as a series because there is so much potential for more, and I would love every page. Great urban fantasy, wonderful, real characters, and a storyline I was completely invested in from page one. Highly, highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

Arc from netgalley

This book was solid. There bits of humor sprinkled throughout that made it go by easily. Would recommend.
