I never knew golf could be sexy, and although I still think it’s not, Tessa Bailey made it so in this cute little romance! You’ve got some disability rep, with a strong FMC that is always happy and a MMC who is perpetually grumpy - so the grumpy/sunshine trope. I loved his background story, too. Overall, it’s a solid 4 stars. Nothing revolutionary or groundbreaking, but I still thoroughly enjoyed the read.
Thank you to Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Thanks yo NetGalley and the publisher for the review copy of this title.
I really loved this book. In fact. it might be my new favorite Tessa Bailey book! I loved the relationship the characters had to themselves and each other. I liked how hard Wells fell so quickly, and he acknowledged it! I also loved seeing the way Josephine coped with all the things she had to, but also what it was like when she could finally let go of some of that worry and stress. I can't wait until the next book in this series.
This was a fun sports romance about a down on his luck pro golfer and his biggest fan becoming his caddy. Spice warning!
This book really made me care about golf!?!?
After loving the Bellinger Sisters but being really disappointed by her A Vine Mess series I wasn’t sure how I would feel about this book but I was smiling, giggling, kicking my feet and had a grand old time with this one! Dare I say this has the Tessa Bailey spark I loved??!?
I think if you like Tessa Bailey’s style and writing you won’t be disappointed by this one! Another fun little romance that I absolutely flew through!
Well Tessa, this is the new gold standard!!!
I loved this so much. Who knew a golf romance was a thing?!?!
I love how much research we saw in Josephine's character. Wells.....well...well.....yum!
You get signature spice from Bailey, but with a new way of connecting here. It was a masterpiece.
Fangirl Down is the latest from Tessa Bailey and it's spicy tale of support and love will surely delight her fans. When successful, moody golf star Wells Whitaker's career takes a hit, the only one in his corner is Josephine Doyle. Despite her own personal problems mounting, Josephine decides to help Whitaker get his career back on track...with maybe an added monetary and physical incentive for herself in the process.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book! Receiving an advanced copy was a delightful surprise. I believe both existing fans and newcomers will find it equally enjoyable.
3.5 stars
Tessa Bailey delivers a grumpy/sunshjne, sports romantic comedy that will have you laughing, swooning and fanning yourself.
Fangirl Down is a great mix of sexiness and hilarity.
I did enjoy the first half more than the last. From 60% on felt very meh!
Fangirl Down is a book that covers a lot of tropes, including sports romance, boss employee relationship, grumpy/sunshine, and a hint of celebrity/millionaire romance. With a fresh, fun premise and a lovely build-up of tension, there’s a lot to like about this novel. Wells is grumpy, quick tempered and closed off in the beginning, but shows a protectiveness and determination to help Josephine. Josephine is a quirky but sweet character who is also supportive, driven, and loyal to a fault. As the story unfolds and the two of them grow closer we get to enjoy the banter and chemistry that simmers. Another aspect of the story I enjoyed was the diabetes representation. It is a representation that has not been highlighted in the books I have read. Towards the end, the main protagonists in the next book in the series were introduced and I am intrigued to see how their love story unfolds. If you enjoy Tessa Bailey's other books than you will be pleased with this one as well.
This was a very enjoyable read. It had some spice and some good romance. It was a quick light read and I will be sure to read more by this author. It was a nice change of pace from the usual darker books that I read.
Sports Romance, Grumpy Sunshine and dual POVs. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for access to the -arc in exchange for my honest review.
4 star
Fangirl Down is officially one of my favorite Tessa Bailey books.
Josephine is always there, cheering Wells on from the sidelines on the golf course. Until he gives up and walks away. After tragedy strikes, Wells shows up at her family’s pro shop and offers her the chance of a lifetime: to caddy for him on the PGA tour. Shenanigans and steam ensue as they work together.
The banter and chemistry between Josephine and Wells was off the charts. I loved both of these characters so much and watching them grow individually and together was such a delight.
LOVED IT SO MUCH ARE WE KIDDING?!?!?! this man was a SIMP I loved it, so spicy and cute. My fav out of Tessa’s recent releases for sure.
Hmmm...i'm torn after reading this book. I'm generally such a sucker for anything Tessa Bailey writes because they are always so good, but I will have to give this a pass for me. Honestly, I took a pause from reading this book, then remembered I had to go back and finish this a few times. I just did not think the plot, characters and relationship were interesting and grip at your heart like other tessa bailey novels (such as the Bellinger sisters). Tessa Bailey definitely has much better books out there that I recommend over this, but if you have read everything on your to be read shelf, then I guess this is one you can settle with.

I am a massive Tessa Bailey fan! I love her banter, her romance, the character developments, but unfortunately in this case, this book was not it for me.
Josephine Doyle was Wells Whitaker biggest fan, even when Wells showed the world his worst side. She never gave up on him and never missed standing on the sidelines for him. When Wells finally decided to quit golf, Josephine began wondering if she had put her faith in the wrong person.
One day, after Josephine felt her world crumble around her, Wells shows up with a daring proposal: be his new caddy, help him rise back to the top, and split the prize money. With Josephine as his caddy, Wells begins to shock the world as he has his comeback into Golf, but before long sparks begin to fly between them. What could go wrong when a Boss falls in love with his fangirl turned caddy.
The insta-lust was a bit too much and too strong. The spicy scenes were honestly a bit too cringe for me. I think in part that has to do with the fact that I did not like the MMC at ALL. I wanted to consume the grumpy vs sunshine trope, but instead for me it came across more as a possessive alpha-hole who was too egotistical. This was even translated into the sex scenes in a negative way.
As far as the FMC, Josephine was too irritating for me. She needed more self-respect. She felt strong and independent in so many ways and immature and codependent in others. It felt too much of a jarring juxtaposition for me.
With that being said, there were many cute parts in this book, but unfortunately the drastic pacing coupled with the cringe-worthy scenes overpowered them. The first half of the book started off stronger, and about halfway it just flatlined only to be rushed at the end.
This was my second sports romance, and I expected there to be a stronger concept about Golf. Instead I read a book that touched upon the concept of Gold, but was centered around Insta-lust.
I will continue to read Tessa Bailey since I do love her books, but this will not be one that I would read again or recommend.
Thank you, NetGalley for this ARC. Unfortunately, Fangirl Down by Tessa Bailey was a miss for me. I had to DNF it pretty quickly. While I am NOT a golf fan (and find listening or watching golf to be extremely boring) I had hoped Tessa Bailey would be able to make me look past that. Well, she succeeded by making the worst characters ever. The male main character was a drunk who was sabotaging his life and the female main character was so cringe that I couldn't continue.
Who knew that golf could be the basis for a good sports romance? Tessa Bailey, that's who!
With her trademark humor and banter, Bailey brings to life the world of professional golf with all it's stress and aloneness. She showcases how important self belief and the feeling of being part of team can be through the relationship of professional golfer Wells Whitaker and his number one fan turned caddy Josephine Doyle aka Wells Belle. Wells has fallen from the heights of the golf world and is ready to give up, but he realizes he can't disappoint his number one fan. To help Josephine earn money to restore her hurricane damaged golf pro shop, he agrees to take her on as his caddy. From there the sparks begin to fly as Josephine helps him learn to love the game of golf and her too.
This was a wonderful read with high heat and humor. I can't wait for the next book in the series!
Thanks to NetGalley and Avon Harper Voyager for the advanced ready copy.
Thanks so much for the ARC, Avon and Harper Voyager and NetGalley! This book was so cute. I loved that we got to take a trip into the backend of a caddy/golfer relationship. I love Tessa Bailey and can’t wait to recommend this to my friends!
Thank you to Avon and Libro Fm for my review copies!
Do you like when an authors’ books have some similarities, or do you prefer them to feel very different?
I think this was my 10th Tessa Bailey book, and I find that I either find her books absolutely hysterical, adore the characters, and cannot put the book down, or I find it completely cringey and have a hard time finishing it. I honestly think it has to do more with the mood that I’m in when I read it than it has to do with Tessa’s writing being wildly different depending on the book. I think I was especially harsh in my reaction to Fangirl Down since I had just read Always Only You which is not extremely similar but it is a sports romance where the FMC has a chronic illness. If you remember, I absolutely adored Always Only You and think it’s one of my new favorite books, so I probably should have given that book and this one a little more space.
🎧 Either Wells’ dialogue does not translate well to audiobook narration, or the narrator made some choices that made his dialogue really cringey. Read this one with your eyes!
What I did like about this one was how devoted Wells was to Josephine and how protective he was of her in the beginning. I could have used a little more character development for him - he seemed to change from a depressed alcoholic to a model husband and father through the power of Josephine’s sunshiney personality.
I liked that Tessa included some chronic illness representation with Josephine having Type 1 Diabetes. I think that the book showed how difficult T1 can be without making it seem like a plot device or a character flaw.
Everything I wanted it to be, and everything I expected it to be. I always look forward to Tessa Bailey's books, they fit the rom com bill perfectly. Well written, light, and an easy read. This one felt a little more for a younger crowd than some of them but didn't give an ick factor for me (middle age). Already looking forward to her next book!

I knew I was going to like this one, I JUST KNEW IT!! 🤩
Going into this, I was a little hesitant, but y’all, Tessa Bailey is back with her signature spice and swoon-worthy men! I don’t know if I talk about it enough, but I am a sucker for a romance where HE falls first! I am a puddle! These men just simping away at our heroines makes me so giddy! I can’t help it!
I truly loved every moment of this romance! I loved how strong Josephine was and how she stood by her game, even though golf has historically been a male-dominated sport and fan base. This girl stood her ground against the most intimidating naysayers and I was here for it!
The tension that continuously built up between Josephine and Wells was SO GOOD! The forced proximity nature of this story also added to it. I couldn’t get enough!
I also really liked the diabetes representation! This is now the second romance this month that I’ve encountered and I’ve appreciated learning more.
I cannot get over how much I loved this book and I know I am not alone!! The Big Shots series is just getting started and I am so excited to see where this series goes. I heard on a live recently that Tessa is planning for even more books after The Au Pair Affair comes out later this summer. I am SO READY for the Tessa Bailey sports era! Stay tuned for my review of The Au Pair Affair!
Thank you to Tessa Bailey, Avon Books, and NetGalley for an eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
