No. Just no. Tessa Bailey books continuously let me down. There's one scene that I found particularly uncomfortable; if you know, you know. I know sports romances are very "in" right now, but this just didn't do it for me. All the characters are either toxic or underdeveloped. I won't be reading another book from this series.

I love all of Tessa Baileys books. I hate to say I really hated this book

The banter was on point, and it was a very funny read.

Where it goes wrong has to do with the characters. Wells is very toxic, possessive and grumpy. Josephine was the only one who contributed emotionally to the relationship and he held a very unhealthy power dynamic over her. He was the bad side of masculine and really just a very bad character to like.

Josephine was a nice character but all that she talked about was her health struggles, which although so valid became her whole personality besides her sexual obsession with sports players. Josephine was a fangirl and practically used sex as a tool to be with Wells and he used her purely for it. The smut was also so cringe worthy.

I just really did not enjoy this mainly because it really felt like a majorly toxic and unhealthy relationship glorified.

This book was sweet and spicy, and a good balance of witty banter and heartfelt moments. As someone who’s never had much interest in golf, this book succeeded in making me invested in Wells’ career which is such a testament to the writing!

4.5 stars

Have read a lot of sports books but never golf. I played it senior year of high school but never before and never since. Also don’t watch it. Interesting.

Dialogue continues to be 10/10.

THIS is the book you want your boyfriend/fiancee/husband to read because holey moley Wells commitment is amazing.

He’s a grumpy grump but he’s lonely and has only been let down by everyone and he adores her. And he loves brushing her hair? Love him.

I’ve never read a book about a person with diabetes. Done so respectively. They all deserve the highest credit.

Phrases that need to be cut/cut down:
Tongue in cheek - x10000
“He ran his tongue along the inside of his bottom lip.” - what does that even look like???

I enjoy a good grumpy/sunshine trope in a book. The whitty exchanges were fun, the heartfelt moments were sweet, and the spicy moments were spicyyyy. I enjoyed my time reading Fangirl Down.

I started this one and then paused it before finishing it. I just couldn't get into it and I don't think there was a strong enough storyline. I love a grumpy/sunshine trope but this one just didn't do it for me. This one is spicy and sometimes feels like more spice than story.

I listened to this on audio and it was ok. I felt like they had more of a friendship but I thought it was amazing how he wanted to help her and no I wasn’t turned off by the smut, it was hot. I do like Tessa’s books I just have a few that I adore and are top tier for me. Thank you NetGalley for the chance to review.

There is just something about Tessa Bailey's books that I just adore. I don't know if it's the steam or the love or what, but each one just leaves me smiling. Fangirl Down is no different. Watching these two working together and then flirting and then just embracing the fact that they liked each other was so great. I also loved that the 'conflict' wasn't your typical romance conflict. Another great Bailey read!

If Tessa Bailey has no fans, RIP me. Everytime I read another TB romance, I remeber why I love romance. Because it's SEXY! it's FUN! it makes me giggle and blush! I love Tessa Bailey.

Fangirl down definitely brought the FUN with "Fangirl Down". And yes, she set out to make golf sexy... and it worked?! The characters had such fun grumpy sunshine banter, their dynamic and dialouge was so great. The empowering message behind being down on your luck and trying again was also really great. There was also really great Type 1 Diabetes representation which is refreshing to see. Super heartwarming story!

Wells Whitaker has a bad attitude, he's been playing for some time and he just doesn’t care about anything but golfing. He's also been on a losing streak and just as quickly as the fans came they left. And that just makes his struggle even harder. Not to mention he feels abandoned by everyone that’s suppose to be in his corner.

Josephine Doyle is a BIG Wells Whitaker fan and a big golf fan. She supported him through the good and the bad times but he likes to burn down everything around him. So he tells her he doesn’t need her support and to move on.

Wells decides to ask Josephine to be his caddy and they'll spilt the prize money if they win. He doesn’t really have much faith in himself but he's trying to help Josephine and this is the only way he knows how to.

So they start to travel together and work as a team, something Wells isn't use to because he thinks he doesn’t need anyone's help. But he finds himself listening more and more to Josephine and actually taking her advice.

We start to see this whole other side to Wells that no one thought existed, he's so concerned with Josephine and taking care of her than he lets his guard down and shows who he really is. We start to see why Wells is all gruff and grumpy on the outside.

And Josephine is there for him no matter what, she doesn’t lose faith in him no matter what happens. She's right by his side cheering him on.

I love that Josephine decides to take some independence for herself and not let her parents continue to dictate what she does. I understand that they care but she needed to stand on her own and be who she is.

And I loved everything between Josephine and Wells from her joking on him and not letting him get away with the non sense he usually does. And him actually joking back with her. The banter between these two was amazing. I love how Wells listened to her and took her advice and not just left her to the side because she was a girl. He really valued her opinion.

This book gave me all the feels and I'm really interested in the next one from the preview that we got of Tallulah and Burgess. Very interesting.

Josephine is a diehard fan of golfer, Wells Whitaker. Even when his game tanks, she stands by him. However, he is super self destructive and doesn’t want her to. At least that’s what he tries to tell himself, but somehow Josephine has gotten under his skin and he can’t quit thinking about her. Fast forward a few pivotal events and she ends up being his caddy on the professional tour. Their relationship takes on a whole new face and they learn to navigate all these new feelings together.

This book had me laughing out loud at places and blushing in others! I enjoyed it so much!

Fangirl Down is a delightful read that combines humor, romance, and the world of professional golf in a unique way. The story follows Wells Whitaker, a pro golfer struggling with a severe slump, and Josephine Doyle, his former number one fan, who has lost faith in him. When a storm devastates her family business, Wells steps in to help, leading to a rekindling of their connection. Tessa Bailey’s writing is sharp and witty, with terrific banter that makes the characters and their interactions truly engaging. This book had me laughing out loud and thoroughly entertained. A must-read for fans of romance with a touch of humor!

I loved this romance book. Sweet but spicy and set in the golfing world. Tessa Bailey knows how to write characters that could come across as annoying in the hands of a less experienced author and make them endearing and lovely.

Fangirl Down is an enjoyable rom-com with a lovable FMC. The banter was entertaining and the storyline was unique for a romantic comedy. However, it felt very low stakes. The MMC falls way fast for someone who is known to be a grouch. It was still an overall enjoyable read.

Fangirl Down is by far my favorite Tessa Bailey book and one of the finest books of 2024. This romance encapsulates all the things I adore about the genre. This book delivers, from the sultry yet adorable moments to the cranky yet charming characters. Wells, the professional golfer, won my heart, and Josephine was equally endearing because of her strength and fragility. Tessa Bailey skillfully crafts original stories with real people, and her writing is faultless. This book will make you like golf even if you don't. You won't want to put it down once you get reading. I promise the swing will be worthwhile! ⛳️❤️

Tessa Bailey is the queen of all the banter and steam, and Fangirl Down was just the book I needed to bust a reading slump, and gave me laughing out loud.

The first in a new sport romance series, centering around bad boy golfer Wells and his sweet caddy Josephine. I loved their chemistry, and thought it had just the perfect amount of banter, steam, and heartwarming moments too.

I’ve read many Tessa Bailey books and this is another winner. It was refreshing having a sports romance involving golf. I haven’t read anything like that before. Wells and his Bell are so sweet as a couple and I was cheering for them the entire story.
