I recieved an advanced copy of this book from Harper Collins and Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.
Tessa Bailey has done the unthinkable: she has made golf hot. I thought this book was hysterical, super spicy, rom-comesque, and just deliciously sweet. I think readers will like the wit and steam and it was also nice to see a protagonist with Type 1 Diabetes.
If you like steamy rom-coms you will love this book.
Only Tessa Bailey would make me want to read a golf romance and I have to say I was not at all disappointed! On top of the romance part being fabulous (as always), she also includes some amazing representation for Type 1 Diabetes. (According to the author's note, this is in honor of her daughter, and that was very meaningful to me as my mom has LADA Type 1.5)
Josephine runs her family's pro shop, which was started by her great grandfather. She is also a hardcore fan girl for Wells Whitaker, a golfer who is currently falling apart. When a hurricane hits the uninsured (GASP) pro shop, Wells steps in to help save it. But... Josephine doesn't want his charity, though she agrees to work as his caddy if he can get back on tour.
This was a wonderful romance read to help reset my brain in-between my heavy fantasy novels, but then again Tessa always seems to scratch that serotonin itch with her books anyways.
Thank you to Netgalley, Edelweiss+ and Avon for the digital ARC on multiple platforms.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Fangirl Down by Tessa Bailey
This rom-com about a grumpy pro-golfer and his sunshine “fangirl” is what I expect from Tessa Bailey. Her previous A Vine Mess series was just that -- a mess -- and I was worried that she had hit a wall. But nope…this one was great!
Josephine and Wells had great banter and chemistry with each other. I rooted for them and cheered them on and was overjoyed when they finally gave into their attraction and love for each other. It was a tad bit unrealistic that she was able to approach Wells and get his attention as easily as she did but I’m gonna let that slide. On another note, the way that Wells talked to Josephine during the spicy scenes was so brash that I found him cringey and off-putting a lot of the time. Aside from that, Wells was swoon-worthy -- the way he protected her, thought about her, took care of her, wanted to know her… all of that was just precious! And Josephine was just the best with her no-nonsense, comedic, loyal personality!
Overall, this was a great read by Tessa Bailey. I would recommend this to fans of her or anyone looking for a nice well-done rom com. Can’t wait for the sequel!
Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for providing me with an ARC of this title for review.
Y'all I freaking LOVED this book.
This brought me back to the magic I felt when I read the Bellinger Sisters duology. Fangirl Down was just such a blast to read. It was the perfect mix of spice, that weird Tessa dialogue that you can't help but love, and a gooey love story amongst golf lovers.
Now, I'm truly not a huge fan of golf; however, Tessa's writing and the relationship between Wells and Josephine makes the novel incredibly engaging! Despite the wacky circumstances at the beginning of the novel, I loved how passionate Josephine was for the sport of golf. I loved getting to see her shine despite being the sole woman on the course and living with Diabetes.
The spice was immaculate and as always, Tessa's MMCs have the filthiest mouths I've ever heard. Wells is truly the sweetest and I love how he falls first and incredibly hard for Josephine. He also is along the same vibes as Brendan Taggart, which we LOVE to see!!
I cannot WAIT to see what happens with Tallulah and Burgess!!!
Overall such a fun read and definitely one of my favorites of the year!
Thank you Tessa Bailey, Avon Publishing, and NetGalley for this eARC in exchange for my honest review!
Fangirl Down was a cheesy, but sweet and feel-good rom-com. It was cringey at times, but that's typical for romance tropes! I am excited for the rest of the sports romance books in this series.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an eARC in exchange for a review.
The perfect blend of spice, humor, and romance. I loved the witty banter between Josephine and Wells and I especially loved the focus on golf. There are so many hockey/football/baseball romances that it was a nice departure from the other options out there. The addition of Josephine's T1D was also something I think people could relate to. Very spicy which is always fun!
The premise of Fangirl Down sounded so good! A down on his luck golf player and the #1 fan who becomes his golf caddy - YES! Unfortunately I was left feeling underwhelmed and not really feeling the chemistry between Josephine and Wells. I read up to about 36%, but didn't find myself picking the book back up.
No one is more surprised than me to give this book 5 stars but here we are I LOVE THIS BOOK I AM OBSESSED WITH THIS BOOK WELLS WHITAKER IM ON MY KNEES FOR YOU.
I normally don’t like Tessa Bailey books because they’re a bit too insta-love for me but the pacing of this book was PERFECT (yes it takes place in a month and I didn’t like to be reminded of that but we move on). Wells and Josephine are the standard in relationships - their communication skills are amazing and their love (and lust) for each other have set my expectations way too high now thanks Tessa!! Also the third act conflict could’ve been so stupid and unnecessary but I could see where they were both coming from and respect both of their decisions.
And shoutout to Wells’s FILTHY mouth I will never forget you 🫶🏻
Very spicy but also sweet if that makes sense. Loved this little romantic romp in the world of gold and definitely looking forward to the next one!
This was my first book I read by Tessa Bailey and it was my favorite. I lived the way the characters were so relatable. It was a great story.
Okay listen, I love Tessa Bailey... it's no secret at this point but this was an absolute A1 sports romance.
I absolutely adored it, when I first saw Tessa was going to write a sports romance I knew it wouldn't disappoint. What I didn't know is that I would immediately need the physical copy in my hands so I could annotate TF out of it. Josephine Doyle is an avid golf fan, she's Wells only fan left at this point and when she takes him up on an offer to caddie for her sparks fly.
Also, side comment omfg I need the Au pair affair in my life. Even the tiny scene of Tallulah and Burgess had me panting for more.
Absolutely amazing read!!
Absolutely loved revived my love of Tessa Bailey after Wreck my Halls kinda feel flat. Had everything. Banter, great chemistry and great smut and great plot.
This was so good! It's classic Tessa Bailey and could not put it down. Wells and Josephine were such great characters and I loved everything about their story.
Wow! I really liked this. I shouldn't be surprised because its Tessa and she always kills it but I was a little weirded out with the plot at first. The whole #1 fan thing was a little weird but after that the story was great! I love the way Tessa creates her male characters. They are always doing the most for their girls. Wes learning so much about how to help with her diabetes and calling her parents to talk was so sweet. And of course as always the spice was phenomenal. I really really enjoyed this and can't wait for the Au Pair- Affair!
This is officially one of my favorite Tessa Bailey books! The hero was alpha-ing in the best possible way, and I thought he complimented the heroine beautifully. And the spice! Always on point with Tessa Bailey.
Fangirl Down made me fall back in love with Tessa's writing.
Wells Whitaker used to be golf's number one superstar until he let a life of drinks and smashed clubs take over. Yet, no matter how bad he play she has always had fangirl Josephine cheering him on. One wrong move on a golf course makes her say goodbye to him forever. That is, until Wells puts forth a deal that'll change both her life and his. Be his caddy for upcoming golf tournaments and she'll get money to redo her golf club pro shop. What is the worst that could happen? Sparks really couldn't fly while on the road... or could they??
I found myself binge reading Fangirl Down from the first page. I enjoyed the dual point of view and felt the book was appropriately paced. True to Tessa Bailey's form, she had me blushing with those sexual scenes and flipping pages on my kindle to find out what all happened between Josephine and Wells. While this was my first golf romance I read, it definitely will not be my last! Don't be a "fangirl down" and preorder this novel wherever you find books!
RATING: 2.5/5 STARS
I first saw the premise for FANGIRL DOWN on Tessa Bailey's TikTok and requested this book solely because of how cute it sounded. The beginning of this book did grab my attention right away, but my interest waned towards the end. Some moments had good execution, but a lot of it was kind of... cringe... for me personally.
This is Tess Bailey at her best - she brings the heat and the yummy deliciousness, but she gives it an amazing backstory that is as good as the spice. Bad boy of golf Wells Whitaker is having a bad, bad season on the PGA tour. But that doesn't stop Josephine from heading out to support her favorite golfer. But Wells has had a enough, quits the tour, and hurts his biggest fan in the process of his meltdown.
Josephine goes back to her life at her family's pro shop, but a Florida hurricane takes out everything in its path and leaves the shop is a swampy mess. Wells shows up to apologize and realize he needs to help Josephine get back on her feet. So, he needs to swallow his pride and re-join the PGA tour. This sets off a the kind of change only true love can bring. Full disclosure - this is my favorite Tess Bailey book to date!
Wells Whitaker is grumpy, angry at the world, and purposely destroying his golf career. Josephine is his number one fan. From the moment the professional golfer and his Wells’ Belle groupie banter on the green, I knew this book was going to steal my heart. Josephine is so relatable and independent to a fault. Wells is self-destructive but fights for the people (or person) he loves. We watch Wells fully transform and fall back in love with a sport he thought he was done playing. We see Josephine let her guard down and rely on someone else to take care of her. This book was the perfect amount of fun, angst, and spice! The connection between Wells and Josephine is electric from their very first interaction and their romance blooms once they make their wager on the green.
Fangirl Down is the second book I’ve read by Tessa Bailey and she hit a hole in one. I loved everything about this story and the unique angle she took on a sports romance. She manages to engage the reader and create the perfect rom-com. If all golfers were like Wells Whitaker, more fangirls would be at the golf course!!! I can’t wait to read more of Tessa Bailey’s work.
A funny, steamy, sports romance about a professional golfer and his #1 fan. I remember when Tessa Bailey did a video about this book idea and I love that it became a reality! As usual with Tessa's characters, the banter was great! Loved the set-up for the next book, too.
I received an advanced digital galley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to Netgalley and Avon publishing.
