A Grumpy meets sunshine romance with the addition of some golf.
Wells' number one fan, Josephine shows up to every one of his Florida tournaments and he is done trying. At this point he only goes because he knows she will be there; she isn't just his number one fan now she is his only fan. But just when he tries to walk away from golf forever, he sees an opportunity to help Josephine.
Josephine has fought for independence from her parents by refusing to be labeled just as someone with T1D. Golf is her whole life, her family passed down their pro shop to her and she is Wells' number one fan. But when she gets to be his Caddy, she sees all the way her life can improve from a better pro shop renovation to better health insurance.
And also, you know they fall in love. So cute!
Thank you NetGalley and publisher for this audio.
Oh wow!!! I could not stop listening to this one. Such a great book. It had me googled from page one. The story was great the writing was great!! I loved reading this love story! Tessa Bailey had done it again!
Fangirl Down by Tessa Bailey offers a refreshing take on sports romance, delving into the world of golf with ease. Wells Whittaker, a struggling golf player, finds an unwavering supporter in Josephine, his devoted fan. The narrative unfolds seamlessly, making the golf backdrop accessible to even those unfamiliar with the sport.
Josephine's character shines as she navigates life with diabetes, challenging stereotypes and proving her resilience. Unlike those around her who often underestimate her abilities, Wells treats her as an equal, fostering a genuine connection. Their relationship becomes a catalyst for mutual growth, as they inspire each other to overcome challenges and become better versions of themselves. Bailey skillfully weaves a heartwarming tale of love, acceptance, and personal development in Fangirl Down.
Tessa Bailey consistently delivers a delightful blend of fun, flirtation, and sizzling romance in her novels, making her a go-to author for anyone seeking an enjoyable and spicy romantic comedy escape. Highly recommend this for fans of spicy sports romance in general!
Tessa Bailey know how to make a cute story line with a lot of spice work! Patrons come in and immediately gravitate towards her books!
Grumpy x Sunshine will ALWAYS do it for me I swear.
I absolutely adored this book so much. I’ve been in such a horrid reading slump, as in I haven’t been able to read quickly and enjoy it for MONTHS, so the fact that I read this in a week is truly an achievement (past me is crying but it’s okay).
First, I love Josephine and Wells’ relationship. As stated, grumpy x sunshine is one of my favorite tropes, but I also love how this book emphasizes their respective personalities while also showing that they have other emotions. Tessa Bailey is so good at taking the insecurities/weaknesses she places in a character and showing how their love interest is able to not only being that side out, but show how they alone come to accept themself — and I think this book does a wonderful job at just that with Josephine’s medical issues and Wells’ emotional wall.
Besides the characters themselves, I’m a SUCKER for a good sports romance. Do I watch sports? No. Do I know anything about golf? I do now 🎀. Regardless of my golf knowledge, or lack thereof, every time these two talked sports I was actually intrigued. It was genuinely interesting to gain a little bit of knowledge about a sport I will never watch in real life, but will probably end up reading about again (because hello golf dude x female caddie is now a weak spot).
Need a jealous Wells in my life (need jealous Wells in my life).
It's a Tessa Bailey, and what you see is what you get at this point! Which is hardly a bad thing, and often proves to be just the thing I need to jumpstart my brain after experiencing about a week's worth of a reading slump. It wasn't necessarily my favorite of hers, but that didn't mean it was bad by any means; I just didn't feel compelled to return to it as often as I could have, judging by how many days it took me to finish. On the other hand, the setup for the sequel is VERY intriguing, and this one kept me reading once I was able to fall back into it, with Wells and Josephine definitely steaming things up along the way.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this edition from the publisher via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Another cute and spicy read from Tessa Bailey! I loved the characters and the storyline was very unique and fun! Thank you netgalley for my free review copy.
Tessa Bailey is one of those authors that I just love her work 99% of the time. And this was definitely in that category.
I really loved the relationship between Josephine and Wells. And the whole premise was just so original--I don't see many golf romance books, in general.
Wells was a character that I'm not sure I would've loved very much without the influence of Josephine. But with her, I thought he was fabulous!
I'm so glad I read this one! And I'm really looking forward to book two in the series, featuring some side characters.
I loved this so much than I thought. Fun, HORNY, romantic and full of chemistry. I'm dying to read the second book.
Small note: why is the hero roaring so much?
Tessa Bailey does it again! I've read this book twice already this year. It's so much fun, and such a comfort read for me. I didn't think I'd be into a golf romance as much as I was, but here we are. I loved Wells and Josephine so, so much and loved seeing their banter. I cannot wait until the next book in the series comes out! Let's see how many times I reread this by the end of the year lol
So great! Wells and Josephine are such a great pair and so lovely to read. Wells is a sexy romantic lead and Josephine is a perfect female lead for him. It’s so romantic and sweet and sexy. A must ready for any Tessa Bailey fan.
Sadly, this wasn't for me. I'm really not big on third person as I feel it makes the book impersonal but it was still beautiful.
If anyone can make golf sexy it's tessa! Grumpy sunshine was chef's kiss! My favorite part was how he encouraged her to follow her dreams!
I liked this so much I will probably read it again which does not happen often to me. I just have to much on my "to be read" list to reread a lot of titles. I love Tessa Bailey her writing is so much fun. I found my self laughing out loud often while reading this book. I also can't help but love a grumpy/sunshine troupe. Such a fun read!!!
Tessa Bailey does it again - another great book with a complex storyline while still having a bit of romance (aka. smut). I cannot wait to pick up the next book in this series when it comes out this summer! As someone who is very into golf - having played since I was 8 - I loved seeing this sport being represented in a romance novel - not something that I have seen a lot of in the past. As the author mentions in her notes at the end of this book, I could totally see the current pro golfer she was inspired by as I was reading. I also have to say, I loved seeing a chronic medical condition being portrayed in such a strong and mainly positive way (at least as positive as I think a chronic illness can be). If you love a good sports romance book, I highly highly recommend!
Fangirl Down is the latest book from Tessa Bailey and the start of at least a two book series. Fangirl Down centers on golf (a subject i know absolutely nothing about). The story is a fallen golf star and his one fan left who he cannot get out of his head. At first, I have to say it started off a little creepy and she seemed honestly like a stalker, but once the two of them formed a friendship/partnership it was magical. I loved the chemistry between the two and the banter, they are both likeable characters even Wells who can be a jerk a lot of the times. I really am looking forward to reading the next one and reading more about Tallulah.
Josephine Doyle is Wells Whitakers biggest fan and believes in him even when he doesn't believe in himself. Wells was once a rising star in the golf world but now all he has to show for it is a grumpy attitude a hangover and several broken clubs. He also happens to have one supporter left, Josephine. When Wells throws in the towel in a spectacular fashion and his fangirl goes home he quickly realizes he has made a mistake. He approached Josephine with a proposal, be his new caddy and help him get his game back and in return he will split the prize money with her, which she could really use. Spending all that time together on the greens and in hotel rooms creates a situation where they become inseparable but Wells is technically her boss and an athlete following in love with his fangirl would be crazy, right?
Wells Whitaker was one of golf’s hottest stars, but lately his career has been going down the drain, and his bad attitude caused him to lose most of his fans, except one. Josephine believes in the grumpy golfer, even when he was at his worst. Even though she is starting to doubt her unwavering support, that all changes when Wells shows up at her door with a proposition. He wants her to be his caddy and help him turn his career around, in return he will pay her a huge amount of money, enough to help her fix her recently flooded business. It doesn’t take long for them to recognize the chemistry between them.
This might be my favorite Tessa Bailey book yet. The grumpy golfer and sunshine fan were the perfect combination and the chemistry between Wells and Josephine was on fire. I wasn’t sure how I would feel about a golf romance, but after this book I’m in, give me all the golf. This book was so much fun! Between the laugh out loud moments, the typical Tessa spice, and the golf setting, this fast-paced book was a quick and entertaining read.
Thanks to Avon Books and NetGalley for the advance copy.
There are some positive and negatives to this book. Typically Tessa Bailey is an average romance writer where I rarely rate them above a 3. Why do I continue to read them? Basically because they are a quick entertaining read with steaminess as a bonus. That being said, the sexy scenes were a bit over the top for my comfort zone in this story. However, I did like the premise of the story about a golfer and his fan. Like hockey romances, this was a fun sports romance, but there are elements that could have been changed or left out. I would have like a more of a slow burn romance as well as less explicit description of certain sexual acts. Call me a bit of a prude, but I just found it gross to read. Oh well.
Thanks for the advance copy.
I have read other Tessa Bailey books before and enjoyed them, but this one was rough. The guy was toxic and kind of a jerk, but in an abusive way not just grumbly. I just didn't really like this one, though it did have some fun banter. Just not the book for me.
