Molly the maid once again finds herself in the middle of a murder mystery.
When world renowned mystery author J.D. Grimthorpe dies under mysterious circumstances, seconds before he was to make a huge announcement, Detective Stark suspects foul play.
With plenty of suspects at the Regency Grand Hotel Molly is determined to solve this mystery and clear her name ... again.

Molly is such an endearing character and it was fun to step back into her world. In the last book it felt like Molly could not catch a break, so it was nice to see Molly standing up for herself and not getting pushed around.
Hoping there will be more adventures in Molly's future

The novel is back again in the Regency Grand Hotel, where Molly is now the Head Maid. A novelist, J.D. Grimthorpe dies suddenly immediately before he is about to reveal some important announcement. Molly’s unique view of the the world, as well as some personal history, makes her integral to the investigation.

Molly’s character grows on you. She is super focused, seeing the things others miss, while at times a little disconnected from other’s experiences. The backstories are fun and revelatory, though darker than I was expecting.

I thoroughly enjoyed The Mystery Guest, the second novel in the series: a fast and easy read. I hope that Molly has more adventures going forward. Reminiscent of Agatha Christie mysteries, Molly will give you a run for your money!

4 out of 5 stars!

I really enjoyed the intricacies of the murder mystery plotting throughout along with the interesting cast of characters. I loved Molly and experiencing her POVs in dual timelines both in the past and the present which let us see her struggles with social communication as well as her brilliant mind. The secondary characters of her grandmother, the mysterious caretaker, her fellow staff, and the guests at the Regency Grand Hotel were well-developed and added to the story nicely.

“A good cup of tea cures all ills. And if it doesn't, have another.”
― Nita Prose, The Mystery Guest

Molly Gray has reached a state of perfection in her life. She has been promoted to head maid at the five-star Regency Grand Hotel and she is in a loving relationship. Life is good until esteemed mystery author, J.D. Grimthorpe drops dead on the hotel’s tea room floor. Hotel staff are under investigation for his murder and Molly takes it upon herself to solve the mystery.

I appreciated that we got to know more about Molly's childhood in this sequel and I enjoyed the story. The only quibble I have is that neither of the two mystery revelations were shocking to me and I missed Juan Manual as I was interested in his character.

Many thanks to NetGalley for providing me with a digital review copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an electronic copy to read in exchange for an honest review.

This is the second book feature Molly Maid. I loved it! Molly is back - as astute and quirky as ever. We see Mr. Preston, Mr. Snow, and a slew of other favourite (and not-so-favourite) characters come together as another murder has happened at the hotel.

I absolutely loved the dual timelines, giving us a much anticipated glimpse into Molly's past. I love that Gran is a character despite being dead. We learn so much about her and I love her and Molly all the more after reading this book. Fingers crossed this isn't the end of Molly's story.

When I read a series I worry that subsequent books won’t measure up to the first book. But I have to say The Mystery Guest by Nita Prose did not disappoint. I felt that it had a different tone and greater depth compared to The Maid. Now don’t get me wrong, The Maid was a 5 star read for me but I appreciated learning more details about Molly and her Grandmother especially in regards to their past. I felt like the extra details added strength to their character and gave me a better understanding of Molly.

Speaking of Molly, I thought Prose was very tasteful and sensitive in her portrayal of Molly as a neurodivergent individual. Molly does not fully grasp the social world and always takes things at face value, but that’s what makes her so endearing. I adored Mollys straightforward personality. Her honesty, integrity and work ethic were a breath of fresh air.

The only thing I wished was there was more emphasis on Molly and her love interest Juan Manuel. I felt that their relationship was glossed over and I was left wanting more. I’m hopeful that if there is a third book in the series Prose will focus on Molly and Juan Manuel’s relationship.

There was a big secret revealed at the end of the book that melted my heart and gave me all the feels.

In summation, The Mystery Guest is a fantastic sequel to The Maid. There’s mystery, drama, laughter, beautiful friendships and of course murder.

I give this “Cozy Mystery” 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️! Thank you Penguin Random House Canada, Netgalley and Nita Prose for my ARC of The Mystery Guest in exchange for my honest review.

Although the story was a good read I didn't enjoy the writing. I had heard great things about the story and was excited to read it but it was just not my cup of tea. That being said I think others will love the adventures of Molly and everyone at the hotel, I kept having to remind myself that this story was about a modern hotel in todays world and not long ago, if it had been written about the 1950's or before it would have made it more understandable to me.

I loved The Maid, and so enjoyed diving back into Molly's world. The Mystery Guest is immediately another favourite of mine! A classic mystery duo that I look forward to reading again and again

Another wonderfully cozy book by Nita Prose. I was so happy to be reintroduced to her cast of characters in this second Molly novel.
This is the type of book that makes you want to curl up with a cup of tea and read for a few hours in a sunlight library corner. The elements of mystery were lovely and the new characters were charming. I hope this isn’t the last time we meet Molly and her friends.
Thanks to NetGalley and Penguin Random House Canada for the ARC of this novel.

I have not read The Maid and I found The Mystery Guest stood on its own with no difficulty.

Molly Gray is a quirky character with a penchant for cleaning and proper etiquette. She is likeable and endearing to draw the reader in. We meet several characters that are either friend or foe and a few we’re not quite sure about until the unraveling is completed. Molly moves through this story collecting clues much the way that she and her grandmother's favourite Columbo would have done. I especially liked the story thread with her Gran in it.

If you are looking for a cozy mystery, The Mystery Guest will not disappoint. It’s light and engaging and will keep you guessing until the end.

Thank you NetGalley and Penguin Random House for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I absolutely loved The Maid and was thrilled to hear a sequel was being announced. It did not disappoint. It was great to revisit the characters I loved in the first one and to see Molly using her skills and strengths to solve another crime. It was a very engaging mystery, I loved the look into Molly's childhood and I thought it was all very well done. If you liked the first one, pick this one up too!

I loved being immersed in Molly the maid’s world in this page-turning mystery. I didn’t read The Maid, but still found this book to be quite enjoyable.

When a famous author dies at the Regency Grand Hotel, right before he’s about to deliver a very important announcement, it leaves a lot of unanswered questions and theories about who could have done it. It also dredges up pieces of Molly’s past, as she knew JD Grimthorpe when she was a young girl.

I loved following this mystery from Molly’s perspective with her quirkiness and unique point of view. The flashbacks reveal more of her personality, and her special relationship with her grandmother.

Thanks for NetGalley and Penguin Random House Canada for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

“Stories are a way to walk a mile in someone else’s shoes.”

The Mystery Guest by Nita Prose is a charming, breezy and page-turning mystery; a welcome return to the world of Molly the Maid.

A year has passed since the events of The Maid, where Molly, a maid at the Regency Grand Hotel, was caught in the middle of a murder investigation. Now the Head Maid, she oversees the other maids and is in a happy relationship with Juan Manuel. She and the hotel staff are preparing for a news conference by famous mystery author JD Grimthorpe. When Grimthorpe drops dead, the hotel once again turns into a frenzy of police and pointing fingers. Molly finds herself pulled into another murder investigation, and must use her attention to detail (and this time, her own memories) to get to the truth.

What I appreciate most about The Mystery Guest is its continuation of the world and voice of Molly that was so charmingly introduced by Prose in The Maid. There’s a huge comfort and warmth in that familiarity. In The Mystery Guest, Molly continues to endear herself to the other characters as well as readers. Guided by her personal growth and her memories, the reader will find even more reasons to connect with Molly.

Where the book excels most is that which is listed above. There’s also a continuation of Molly’s understanding of the world being expanded, with more layers being added to colour her perspective. The Mystery Guest isn’t afraid to expose Molly to some darker times, never losing what makes her unique.

In terms of keeping me guessing, the Maid takes the cake, but The Mystery Guest plays a key role in Molly's story successful by providing character development and in moving Molly’s world forward.

If you’re looking for a light (I realize this is still a murder mystery), charming and bright mystery with a lovely narrator (and if you loved The Maid), add The Mystery Guest to your TBR.

I don't think this was as interesting as the first book. I think this could've used more info about Molly's past, because otherwise this feels very similar to the first book. I do think this is still a very well-written mystery, with some good twists and turns. I do think that Molly is an interesting character that I liked reading about. I don't know. This was good, it just wasn't amazing.

I received a complimentary copy of this book via Netgalley. Opinions expressed in this review are my own opinions.

Although the book seemed really interesting, I found myself confused due to not reading the first book. It's definitely not a stand-alone book. I can't wait to pick up The Maid so I can connect some dots.

Run to pick up your copy of this book! You won’t regret it.

I had high expectations after such a great first book and Nita Prose did not disappoint. This book follows a murder mystery featuring Molly, the Maid. After reading The Maid, I could not wait for this book to come out. Molly is a character you cannot forget and I find myself rooting for her the whole way.

I loved the writing style of this one, following the present crime and the history leading up to it. Such a well written, quick read. I could not put it down. I am already hoping for a third book to the series!

This is a mystery about the sudden death of a famous mystery author. The setting is an opulent hotel, focusing on a cast of characters that work at the hotel.
The main character is the head maid and the story is told through her eyes both in the present with flashbacks to her childhood.
Molly, the head maid is a very quirky character, which I found both endearing and annoying.
Overall an enjoyable mystery with some twists and turns
