2 out of 5 stars
I received an advanced audiobook version of this from Netgalley.
This is the first book I've read by Sarah Ready. After reading the description, I walked into this novel hopeful. However, I was left disappointed.
The story was a quick listen, but it did not keep my attention well. Jillian has just moved into a new apartment in New York City. The apartment is covered in mirrors and is haunted by a ghost named Daniel.
From the start, Daniel is jealous of Jillian's dates. The constant denial of being dead got old quickly and I wasn't a fan of the insta-love aspect.
This book simply wasn't for me.
Normally, the paranormal slant is not my favorite genre. But, author Sarah Ready is one of my favorite romance authors, so I couldn't resist giving this a try. I had to find out how a book about a woman who falls in love with a ghost is going to turn out! The main character, Jillian, has a significant problem--she is totally tongue-tied around men. She's just moved into a new studio apartment, sight unseen, only to cringe when she sees the decor is "Early Lethario." And, there's one other problem: it's already inhabited by a very sexy ghost named Daniel.
The book centers on Daniel's helping Jillian to converse with men and their subsequent ill-fated love for one another. There are some interesting underlying messages about relationships in this story that one could take to heart! In addition, Jillian's work "family:" is quite a set of characters--they add lots of humor to the story. As a Star Trek fan, I also loved that Jillian is a Trekkie! And, if you read Ready's earlier book "The Space Between," you might recognize some subtle inclusions of characters and settings from that book. Finally, the narrators really give the story life, as if one were watching it on the big screen.
Loved this audiobook! Can't wait to listen to/read the next one from this author! Thank you NetGalley and Swift & Lewis Publishing, LLC, for sending an advance copy of this audiobook for review consideration. All opinions are my own.
Ghosted-⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
My first Sarah Ready read was earlier this year when I received an ARC for her book French Holiday. I loved it so much I knew that I wanted to request an ARC for Ghosted. I’m so glad I did and I’m so glad that NetGalley and Sarah’s publishers W.W. Crown, Independent Book Publishers Association allowed me the opportunity to read this cute book before its pub date.
This book was much different than French Holiday but it was a lot of fun. It’s the perfect romance to get you ready for spooky season but none of the spooky, just a very sexy ghost instead. It’s a bit different and out there but the story is so cute and really makes you fall in love with the characters. Oh and the ghost is shirtless so what more can you ask for? So make sure and grab you copy September 26th and enjoy a really unique and fun read.
Thank you for the ARC.
I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about this book. I'm not normally a ghost story girl. BUT I loved every second of this story. Every single one. I smiled, I laughed, I cried. I just loved it. There were times where I was a bit confused by the pacing of the story BUT by the end it all made sense. Definitely worth the read.
Thank you, NetGalley and W. W. Crown, Independent Book Publishers Association for giving me the opportunity to read this book for my honest review.
I got this book as an audiobook. I loved the narrators but even they could not save this book. There were times when I was okay maybe it's not that bad, then I kept reading...
The number of times the words "make love" were used is preposterous. I seriously want to go through and take a count because it felt like every other sentence. I also tried too hard to like the FMC but I just couldn't. Shes basically Raj from Big Bang Theory but her selective mutism is only with living men which is why she can talk to ghosts. To me, that is such a stretch. like really?
I give it 1 1/2 stars because there were times that I didn't mind. Normally after I read a good book I get post-book depression. I think I got post-book elation because I was just so happy it was over.
Jillian is incapable of talking to men. Literally any man. She has been set up on more dates than she can count by her well-intentioned godmother, bit it’s no use.
She moves into a new apartment, in which the decor is…questionable. It’s described as a “sex dungeon” and comes with a shirtless, handsome…ghost named Daniel.
Jillian and Daniel strike up a deal: he’ll help her talk to men and she’ll help him figure out who he was and how he died.
This book was so cute. Remember that Reese Witherspoon and Mark Ruffalo movie? I think it was called “Just Like Heaven” (I’m not googling it), it gives off those vibes. I loved the story and it has a bit of time travel too, which I also love.
It also reminds me of Dead Romantics, if you liked that one. you’ll like this.
The audiobook narrator was also great and I highly recommend!
When I chose this book, I thought it sounded interesting and liked the cover art. But, oh my goodness! I was not expecting how much I would love this story! I love the characters, they were believable. I wasn't sure how this would end happily but the ending was perfect! If you love second chance stories, you will love this!
Thank you NetGalley and W. W. Crown, Independent Book Publishers Association for giving me the opportunity to read this book for my honest review.
This book was AMAZING! I laughed, I cried, I was hopeful, I was worried, just about any and every emotion possible, this book made me feel it 💞
Ghosted is about an advice columnist, Jillian Nejat who is the only dating and relationship expert on the planet who is incapable of speaking to men. She moves into a new apartment where she meets Daniel, a very hot ghost, who doesn't believe he's dead. But he has to be, because how else would Jillian be able to speak to him?!
I definitely didn't know where this book was going to end up. How were Jillian and Daniel going to end up together? At times, I was even wondering, would they? This was an interesting twist on a paranormal romance, and I loved it! The love between Jillian and Daniel was incredible 🥹🥰 #goals
Was it spicy? Yessss 🌶🌶🌶
Read via audiobook and definitely recommend it. This was my first Sarah Ready book and I will most certainly be checking out more of her books!
First of all, I will say that paranormal is a genre I avoid like the plague. I do not like anything even remotely related to fantasy/sci fi. However, I fell in love with [book:Josh and Gemma Make a Baby|59796297], and since [author:Sarah Ready|20871147] has been nearly an instant read for me. So when I had the chance for an advance audio copy, I took it without reading the premise. So the fact that I am rating a paranormal romance four stars is pretty astounding. I will say it is pretty light on the paranormal. Other than, you know, Daniel being a ghost, lol. Honestly, the many Star Trek references were more of a deterrent for me than the whole ghost thing.
Jillian is very shy- she literally cannot talk to men. At all. Yet she goes on endless blind dates that her parents' neighbor sets up. She is convinced that someone will see her one day. She moves into a new, creepy apartment- every surface is covered by mirrors- and the first day, a shirtless man appears in her apartment. Except she soon realizes he isn't a man- or not a living one. He has no reflection. He appears and disappears. And, shockingly, she can actually talk to him. Daniel swears he is not dead, but only Jillian can see him. They come to the conclusion that he was sent to help her. Daniel helps her socially and her confidence grows and she begins actually talking to people. But her newfound confidence is kind of a moot point, since she has fallen in love- with a ghost.
The audiobook is narrated by Sarah Naughton. There is an epilogue narrated by Rob Brinkman as well. This works as an audiobook and the narration is good.
I received an audio copy in exchange for an honest review.
Song: I Get To Love You by Ruelle
“I could find you anywhere. You’re like a flame, I’m drawn to you, everyone else is muted but you burn bright.”
“Do you have the time.” ⌚️👀🫦
Hey Trekkie’s 👽🛸 and paranormal romance lovers, you’re gonna love this one…but so will everyone else.
This book has what, on its face, may 𝙨𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙙 𝙡𝙞𝙠𝙚 a juvenile / YA type of premise (ghost hottie / ghost boyfriend) but don’t sleep on this one…it has layers and a deeper, yet more subtle intimacy than you may could ever expect. That doesn’t mean there isn’t a time & place for some fun along the way. I had a blast getting to know Daniel and Jillian. I loved all of Daniel’s ghostly dating advice. Like you’ve gotta lookout for guys who take you on dates with intentions to “Nail and Bail” or “Ejaculate and evacuate.” 🤣😂
This book explores one of my worst fears…that I won’t be there for someone when they need me. The other one is someone feeling soooo unseen and having no one there to tell them they matter. The exact scenarios in this book terrify me.
The complexity of this book and all of the issues it addressed really surprised me in the best possible way. If this book wasn’t by one of my favorite authors I may have let it pass me by based on the synopsis alone. There is more going on here than any synopsis could do justice.
In true Sarah Ready fashion…this book is full of authentic characters you’ll love and won’t soon forget.
I enjoyed this story immensely. I am a sucker for these love across seemingly insurmountable odds and Ghosted did not disappoint. I liked that the development between set up and the resolution was measured so we, the reader are full invested in the couple prior to the real plot obstacles rearing up.
The narration of the audio was solid and allowed for total concentration. I have nothing negative to say around either narrator. The second epilogue seemed incongruous and might have been better placed earlier in the book for full impact.
I was very excited to read my first paranormal romance. This story is not a classic Ghost story. It has a complicated reason behind the ghostly encounter. I enjoyed many of the secondary characters and their banter with the mains. The relationship between Daniel and Jillian at first was absolutely delightful. She had some things to work on socially and he becomes her sort of on site coach. But as the story progressed I found the “science” behind the ghost situation required a level of belief suspension that I was unable to achieve.. I found myself cringing at Jillian while the plot unfolded but found Daniel’s character to be well fleshed out and interesting. The writing was awkward at times making the story feel somewhat choppy.
This book took me on a journey. I went places with it, thought it would end in places, wondered if it would all tie together and was just a little stumped……and then I reached the end….the last couple sentences….and I just went…wow.
I’ve read a Sarah Ready before, there wasn’t any spice in that one….this one was romantic, a little dirty and definitely sultry. I have a couple issues with logistics in the bedroom but I’m here to tell a woman how to live and over all I enjoyed that aspect.
I liked a female nerd, I always love that troupe, and the way this cool guy was portrayed made me feel good about how narratives can be built around us that we had no active hand in building but also didn’t stop.
I do think the descriptive wording of scenes could be paired down, knowing every detail of some scenes wasn’t the journey I was trying to go on, but overall I’m here for it. The best friend seemed a bit convenient, quite a bit. Maybe build it in a bit more.
Over all: I will definitely read another Sarah Ready, and definitely suggest this one for the inner paranormal loving girl nerd. Cheers!
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC, I feel lucky to get to read for these talented authors before they hit shelves ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
So this was my first Sarah Ready book and it certain won’t be my last! I have never read a book quite like this one before! Love the concept and the connection between Jillian and Daniel!
Thank you #NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read and review this ARC!
I am torn on how to write this review
Did I personally enjoy this story 3/5
The paranormal romance is not a genre I can get into. Having relations with a ghost or falling in love with one is just not something I can get into.
The story 4/5
The author is an amazing storyteller. The details are so vivid you can see it clearly. The description of a sunset or a feeling. Sarah Ready sets the stage for you to imagine everything just how she sees it. Characters are well developed. I never once was lost and had to go back and figure out who someone was. It is a perfectly written story and encourages me to read all of her other titles. This is the second book by her in a month I’ve read.
Narration 5/5
The narrator did an excellent job. The voice was perfectly paired to the characters. I would definitely choose a title read by this narrator again.
So good and right on the verge of being great. I want so badly to say this is a 4 star book but the overly detailed writing just killed if for me. The author us a very gifted writer/story teller but I found my self skipping forward to by pass the unnecessary details. Had this book been about 2 hours shorter atleast. It would have easily been a 4 start if not 5.
A fun an interesting spin on the "there's a hot ghost in my apartment" trope that I've seen a bit lately. Sweet and enjoyable romcom that'll keep you hooked till the end.
This is my first read by Sarah Ready and this seemed like a fun choice for fall. I wasn’t quite sure what I was getting into at first, but quickly got hooked on the story! This is a sweet, paranormal romance with just a dash of spice 🌶️ Quirky characters, a New York setting and lots of Star Trek references…I was surprised at how much loved this book! And there is a jaw dropping moment that’s not be be missed! 👻
If you’re in your fall/creepy/spooky era right now, I DEFINITELY suggest putting Ghosted in your TBR for a lovely romantic cleanse. I easily gave this 4⭐️
Thank you to @Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to listen to this great book! I’m going to be on the lookout for more @sarahreadyauthor reads!! 🫶🏼
I will be leaving my review on goodreads. I loved the story. I enjoyed the audio and found it engaging. It had the right balance of laugh out loud moments + feel good moments + in your feels moments.
I wanted to like this because it had a cute premise, and I enjoyed the narrator. As I went on listening, I found it wasn't for me. I gave it a lot of time (46%) for the story to try and win me over, but it seemed like the plot was all over the place without a solid direction. I got dizzy and bored reading it. Life is too short for books that don't interest you. Plus, the ghost-on-girl sex, at least in this book, is weird and cringy. It may have been written to make me laugh, but I was weirded out and didn't have feels in a romantic/spicy/giggly way. I would rather not think of that scene again. I only enjoyed the narration and the weird apartment that the FMC moved into.
Thanks, W. W. Crown and Netgalley, for the gifted audiobook!
