I really enjoyed listening to the audio version. Sarah Ready has written another wonderful romcom. Full of humour, dates gone wrong, unlikely chances, helpful friends, a ghost (surprise, well maybe not), and finding a one true love. Thank you to W. W. Crown and NetGalley for the audio ARC. The views expressed are all mine, freely given.
I listened to this ARC to provide an honest review. All opinions are my own.
This is a wonderful, touching book. The narrator's voice fit perfectly with the story. It was easy to follow, and addictive to listen to. There was one moment where I was thinking, 'Hurry up and help!' which probably wouldn't happen if I was reading the physical book, because I would've sped up my reading.
I loved the people Jillian worked with. They did indeed, feel like family. Her best friend, was simply the best!
I liked how Jillian's and Daniel's relationship grew. I also enjoyed the epilogue through his eyes, that basically showed that they would've met, no matter the circumstance.
I love a love that defies space and time.
So I’ve made a habit of keeping up with Sarah Ready’s new releases, thank you to NetGalley for always having the audiobooks on listen now. At this point I’d easily call myself a fan. Not every single book knocks it out of the park, but they’re always good. Some are better than others by far, or course. But I was excited to see a new book available, and a paranormal romance premise at that!
With Ghosted there were a couple things that caught me right away, one being that cover! Holy lord it’s gorgeous, and then the second one that opening line, “if I’d known that my new apartment was a sex maniac‘s love den, I never would’ve invited my parents along” it had me rolling on the floor laughing right off the bat. This book is silly, it is, you can’t take the ghost boyfriend concept too seriously. That said the relationship is in no way ridiculous and the character growth and development is exactly what I’ve come to expect from Sarah Ready books. There’s gravity to the story and characters, even with the willing suspension of disbelief necessary to create a paranormal relationship.
I loved this book, Daniel and Jillian may possibly be my new favorite Sarah Ready couple (though Josh and Gemma are hard to beat.) When it comes down to it this was pure escapist romance and it was perfect to me. I thought the balance between humor and heart was so fulfilling. This will definitely be one to buy and add to my collection!
Audio: 5/5 Loved the reading of this, it was clear, well paced and energetic. the narrator really did a great job portraying the emotions of each scene, and I just genuinely found it very pleasing and easy to listen too.
4.5⭐️
Fantastic. This is my third Sarah Ready ARC this year, and she’s officially on my must-read list. Her books are quickly becoming some of my favorite romance reads, and Ghosted is no exception.
In Ghosted, we meet Jillian. Jillian writes a relationship advice column that’s struggling just as much as she herself struggles with love and dating. Ironically, her advice- to always be yourself- is something she can’t do on dates- as she’s completely incapable of speaking to men.
That is, until one day, she meets Daniel, and she CAN speak to him. The problem is, Daniel is a ghost.
Witnessing the dance between Jillian and (both real and ghostly) Daniel as they get to know each other and try to figure out what the nature of their connection is- it’s utterly delightful. It’s impossible not to root for them to bridge the gap between them so they can save one another.
Sarah Naughton and Rob Brinkman do a lovely job narrating the audiobook.
Thank you Sarah Ready, W.W. Crown, and NetGalley for providing this ALC for review consideration. All opinions expressed are my own.
If you're looking for a lighthearted paranormal romance with a deeper undertone, this is for you!
Jillian is a shy, Star-trek loving relationship/sex/love-advice columnist who cannot talk to men. Until she meets Daniel, a super hot, very good with the ladies ghost who pops into her new apartment. Basically her total opposite. Jillian is struggling at work, with money, and definitley her love life. She goes to see a psychic and as per usual, she is told that the ghost has "unfinished business". With Jilian's life imploding, Daniel decides this is why he is meant to be around her: to help her boost her career and find a man to love so he can "move on". And in the meantime, maybe he can figure out more about himself and what happened.
The first half of this book is so typically a rom-com and I was expecting a very typically rom-com kind of ending, but I was pleasantly surprised! This took a turn I have never encountered before and was very clever. The one thing I couldn't get over was the instant love; that's just not something I vibe with in general but it was so in your face here. I like slow-burn build up, but the spice in this made up for it a bit.
"Ghosted" explores not only love, but growth (within yourself and with others), fate, and choice. It touches on trauma and healing. And the ending definitely brought everything full circle which I love. The side characters were a great and smart decision as well! There was a range in personalities and really brought depth to the story. I was laughing and tearing up and really nodding my head along to a lot of what the author was saying. I'll definitely be checking out more of her work!
Thank you to the author, publishers, and NetGalley for the audio-ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Thanks for the ARC of this audiobook. This book had me smiling and actually laughing out loud. The main character of this book has the nerdiest personality and really fun. If you are into Star Trek this will have plenty of references. The book itself fell a bit flat towards the end. The build up to a romance was great and the build up again and then nothing. By the end I was just wanting the main character to move on 😂. Otherwise the book was very entertaining and I enjoyed it.
I just finished listening to an ALC of Ghosted. I could not stop listening! This story was so intriguing and interesting. It was heartbreaking and heart repairing. I can relate to the tongue tied Jillian and I would love to find my own Daniel, although I hope to never meet a ghost I fall in love with! This is my second Sarah Ready book and I just know I’ll keep reading her books for years to come!!
This is definitely one of my top five reads for this year. It starts of with Jillian the MFC moving in to her own apartment in NYC and after everyone leaves and she starts unpacking all of her belongings only to be treated by ghost named Daniel, a half naked well toned male. Jillian who has trouble talking to guys throws her mint condition USS enterprise model at/thru Daniel but it’s not until she . And misses with a bat does she realize he’s not really there and that she can see thru Daniel.
After coming to the conclusion that he was the previous tenant of the apartment and that he died while have one of his sex parties and that she going to have to live with him being there, cause rent was was cheap even if all the walls in the bedroom are covered in mirrors. Over the next few days Daniel starts following her around thru her day to day life and giving pointers and tips throughout her day after finding out that she cannot talk to guys and that she is failing at her love advise column at work.
After attending a blind date that she didn’t want to go on and he helps her by repeating what her date says so that she can respond since she has such a hard time talking to men. He starts helping her in every day life and helping with her work, Theo slowly start to fall for each other, but after she discovers that no matter how many dates she goes on with other men it’s not going to work out cause they are not Daniel. After they have spicy time, and she finally admits that she loves him and he disappears.
It takes her weeks to realize that he has moved on cause he fulfilled his purpose of helping her talk to men, she starts putting her own life back on track and Doug with friends she sees Daniel out in public, and runs up to kisses him only for a shocked “Daniel” to not know who she is and thinking that she is just a crazed fan and or stalker he goes on her way. When her friend comes up to her she ask if she knew him, cause that was the billionaire that she wanted to set her up on a blind date previously. Now for the part that I didn’t like, is that after finding out his identity she asks a coworker to find out his day to day, and she pretty much starts stalking the guy cause convinced that she needs to save him. I wasn’t fan of the stalking part, but also at the same time they start growing together and starts teaching him to live just as his ghost persona had done for her. They slowly start to fall for her but he finds out that she had requested his entire schedule while he was visiting NYC, he kicks her out of his apartment, but while hail a cab and due to the inclement weather she gets injured by the cab and he gets killed by the truck that hits the cab. She ends up saving him which as much as she knew he hated her for what she did she wanted to save him so that he would live.
Weeks go by and he’s release from the hospital and they go their separate ways after he thanks her for saving his life. She tries to move on but can’t so her friend invites her to a Trekkie convention in Geneva where out of all the places she runs into Daniel again, but this time he remembers everything, even all the time her was a ghost, and they have their happy ever after
This book was a delightful surprise! I must admit, I'm not usually a fan of ghost stories, but this one completely won me over. The ghost character in the story was so kind and endearing, and I couldn't help but adore him. The emotional rollercoaster of laughter and tears touched my heart deeply.
The tender storytelling made me feel like I was a part of the journey, and I was genuinely invested in the characters' lives. The themes of love, loss, and redemption were beautifully explored, making the book even more special.
I lost track of time while reading this book and found myself wishing the story would never end. It's a unique and captivating read that I could happily immerse myself in forever. If you're looking for a heartwarming and touching book, I highly recommend giving this one a chance!
