Jullian moves into her new apartment and is greeted by a male heartthrob ghost named Daniel and they fall in love. Jullian doesn't know how he died and neither does he. He knows he has to go, so she can live a real life and have a family. Oh, I can't spoil the rest of this book for you. All I can say is I really enjoyed this book. It was heartwarming, romantic, funny, and unexpected, with a happy ending. I plan to put this on my Writing and Illustrating Best Books Read in 2023.
I adored French Holiday by Sarah Ready so I knew I had to pick up Ghosted too, and I was not disappointed!
This book had a little of everything. Paranormal romance for a start, swiftly followed by plenty of humour, buckets of love, a little heartbreak, and alllll the character development.
Jillian literally can't talk to men. She's down on her luck, struggling with her job, and just moved into a somewhat quirky apartment...which is where she meets Daniel, who's hot af and also a ghost...
As the two figure out why he's showing up just for Jillian, the obvious happens. There's TONS of chemistry between the two and I fell for ghost Daniel too.
I gave this audiobook 4⭐. The narration was awesome, and I recommend you pick this up if you like paranormal romance, a little insta-love, and a book that takes your heart on a total journey.
Thanks to Netgalley and W.W. Crown, Independant Book Publishers Association for this Audio Book in return for a fair review. All thoughts are my own!
I loved this audiobook! The characters were amazing, I loved the narrators. I cannot wait for the 2nd book.
Imagine moving into what looks like a fully mirrored apartment and former sex den, then discovering that it's haunted by a shirtless playboy ghost, but not making any effort to uncover his identity or wondering if perhaps your new residence was the scene of a murder. And imagine being dead and becoming the involuntary flat mate of a selectively mute Star Trek nerd who can't talk to men, exclusively - yes, wouldn't your first priority be to introduce that dork to the intricacies of dating?
I dnfed this almost as fast as the feelings set in between these two. They were salivating over each other (the ghost actually makes the protag eat and vocally enjoy the food he can no longer savour once he accepts that he has passed on to the afterlife) and yet for some reason wouldn't admit it. What's stopping them? Him being her invisible prompter during terrible blind dates could have been such a fun concept, but the writing didn't really take it there.
I love the ghost boyfriend trope, and it deserves better than this.
I absolutely loved listening to Ghosted by Sarah Ready. There were so many points in the story I thought I knew what was going to happen.. but I was wrong at every turn, haha! It was a thoroughly enjoyable listen if you love a bit of mystery and paranormal romance. The roller coaster of a story line is done so well, there's so much character development, and all the emotions. What a wild, enjoyable ride. The narration was done very well. Highly recommend!
Thank you to W. W. Crown, Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA), Members' Audiobooks and NetGalley for this ALC!

5 stars for narration by Rob Brinkmann and Sarah Naughton.
However, the book was not for me. I'm a huge PNR fan, so I was really looking forward to this book and then the audio.
This is my first time reading Sarah Ready, and while this book wasn't for me, I'm going to try another book since I've heard so many positive reviews from book friends!
I was confused because the book started off creepy but the book cover is so colorful. But as I dive into the book even more, I enjoyed it. I love the whole mystery of who the ghost was. I also find it funny because of all the mirrors in the apartment.
Sarah Ready never fails to make me love and enjoy her works. I cannot wait to read more from her, for the meantime, I will pick up her backlist!
Thank you Netgalley for approving!
This was a cute audio book. It just wasn’t my favorite type of book personally: I’m sure others will love it!
I knew this book was going to break my heart. What I didn't know is how many times this book was going to break my heart. Three. The answer is three times.
Guys, just read this book. It's so good. All of the feels. The story is so good. The way the author made the story flow was very fun. The FMC had a ton of development and did not become a useless mess when she was devastated... twice. I love that for her.
The only thing I had an issue with was the FMC's name, and that was only because it's my name, but that's a me problem. It took me a bit to get used to that, but I did!
Thank you to NetGalley and W.W. Crown, Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA) for the early access audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
I was extremely intrigued by the plot - specifically how you fall in love with a ghost and expect to have... relations. The book covered that surprisingly well, especially considering there's no research that an author could do that would tell you how such a thing would work. She's used real-world experiences in love and found a way to make it all work.
This story was full of twists that were just real enough to believe thy could actually happen. The back half of the book is full of emotion (lots of tears, happy and sad), and it was worth going along for the ride. There's way more to this book than just a silly paranormal romance. It has depth, drama, raw emotions, and so many lessons about grief, friendships, and love.
It was a great listen, the narrator was perfect, and the adventures that the characters have encapsulates the whimsy and grit of NYC. Highly recommend giving this one a listen (I'm sure it's a great read as well).
I will admit, paranormal/ghost romance stories are not something that I usually seek out. My logical brain has a hard time letting go and really enjoying the story. But I tried to go with the story as much as I could this time because I really do enjoy Sarah Ready's writing! Overall, I thought this was a really well crafted story. At times, when there were questions popping up in my brain - the characters actually addressed them on the page (the time loop, the ghost capabilities, etc.). This one was a bit longer than I was expecting at 480 pages, but I didn't feel like it dragged very often (there were a few sections that felt like they didn't really add to the overall storyline).
This was an enjoyable story - and kind of perfect for this time of year with the ghost character, even though it's not overtly a fall themed story. The audio was really well done and definitely kept me engaged in the story and was not a distraction at all. Thank you to NetGalley for the ALC.
Paranormal romance is not something I’d usually pick up, but I’d heard so much about this book and its comparisons to The Time Travelers’s Wife that I just had to read it. And, guess what? I loved it!
The story of Jillian and Daniel’s unconventional romance hit me with all the feels. It was sweet and funny but also came with a serious undertone that made it more than a standard rom-com.
I totally bought into the idea that Jillian and Daniel were predestined to meet and fall in love; and that fate had brought them together to fulfil an important purpose. I thought both characters were sympathetic and really well drawn, and I was rooting the whole way through for them to overcome the inconvenience of Daniel being a ghost.
For sure this was a lot easier to follow than The Time Traveler’s Wife, but the emotional rollercoaster was the same. The twist in the middle, which sent the narrative off in a completely unexpected direction, completely floored me.
All told, this was a deliciously satisfying read, made all the more so by the audiobook narrator, who gave Jillian a really distinctive voice. As for the sliding doors moment of the second epilogue, where we got to hear Daniel’s voice for the one and only time, it gave me goosebumps.
My first book by this author, but I’ll definitely be seeking out some of her other titles.
I received this audiobook for review purposes from NetGalley. This book was..interesting. I honestly think it should have ended about 60% into the book, but it kept going. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the ending, but believe the plot was a little out there and the happy ending could've come sooner. I did enjoy the supernatural/ghost aspect and the characteristics of the MMC. The FMC got on my nerves many times.
First I would like to thank W.W. Crown for a copy of this audiobook in exchange for my honest review.
This is the story of Jillian the only dating and relationship expert on the planet who is incapable of speaking to men. With her bank account at zero, her career a dumpster fire, and her dating life in a ten-year slump, she moves into a tiny, dirt-cheap NYC apartment. Unfortunately, the apartment is already occupied. Daniel (no-last-name) is a sexy, shirtless, six-pack wielding heartthrob who is also…dead. He’s also the only man on the planet that Jillian can talk to. Daniel’s convinced that it’s his afterlife mission to resurrect Jillian’s love life. He knows, if he helps her fall in love then he can move on. But then, one practice date leads to another, one confession leads to more, and suddenly Jillian fears she’s falling for the one man she can never have.
What I Loved:
- Audiobook quality, this audiobook was so well done with the different narrators doing an amazing job embodying the characters and I just wanted to prolong my drive/walk to get more listening time in
- Daniel, this guy sounds like the whole package he is attractive and cares deeply for Jillian always wanting to protect her even when he can't physically help her as a ghost. He will absolutely be added to my favorite book boyfriend list
- Co-workers, Jillian works at a very small online publication and the cast of characters she works with are just so fun. The bubbly blonde, balding trickster, the older conspiracy theory nut and the buttoned up boss all working together in harmony.
- Star Trek, Jillian is a HUGE trekker and as a person who grew up watching the different series I just LOVED all of the references. Also, the fact that Daniel is also a fan is just another plus for him
- Growth, Jillian grows a lot throughout this story from figuring out what causes her severe shyness to building up her confidence and forcing herself out of her comfort zone to help Daniel
- Unexpected, this books really had a lot of unexpected twists and turns and I really enjoyed the ride. We get so used to the typical romance formula but that got flipped a bit and I liked that it kept me guessing.
- Epilogues, this book has two and I'm partial to the second one but if you listen to the audiobook you will understand why
Overall this book was just all of the good stuff I love in a romance! This is a strangers to lovers paranormal romance filled with amazing side characters, descriptions of NYC, and Star Trek references. If you are looking for a romance with a bit of a twist I would absolutely recommend this book to you and if you like audiobooks PLEASE check this one out.
I'm a big fan of Sarah Ready and she's been my most read author this year. However this book was not for me. I Liked the idea of the book the 1st half was what more or less turned me off and the 2nd half had promise but the lengths she goes for some things just didn't vibe with me. I've seen a lot of people love this. And I get it it just wasn't for me.
The ghost part would of been great but they didn't seem like a normal pairing and I can't get into the full things I loved and didn't without giving anything away.
IF your a fan of Sarah then you should 10% read this. Not ever book by authors you like is going to be for you and that's great. Until her next one.
Thank you Netgalley for this audio arc in exchange for my honest opinions.
After reading the synopsis of this book, I was intrigued. How can a person fall in love with a ghost and how could they make the relationship work?
We begin the story with Jillian moving into an interesting apartment in NYC. Already I was laughing and could totally imagine everyone's reaction upon setting foot into the postage stamp size of an apartment. But it's what happens afterwards that is the big shift in the story. Daniel arrives and turns Jillian on her head. She's awkward around men, yet writes a dating column and is constantly being set up on dates that are unsuccessful. But with Daniel, something works. Too bad he's a ghost. Their banter and their conversations they have are wonderful. I really liked them together and how Daniel pushed Jillian. I was really hoping that Jillian could work something out in that respect. But then the story takes a 180 and it's like we have two separate books. The second half begins and it's as if we are in an alternate universe. I had mixed emotions about that. On the one hand I liked that we were given something else, but also it seemed as if the author needed to take one road OR the other.
I'm not really going to give details on the first part or the second, but I did like the way the author worked the halves into a whole. It just was LONG. Again, I think if the story was either based on the first half or the second half, it would've flowed better, but would we have gotten the same outcome?
Overall, I did enjoy the story and where it took us. Also the audio narration was great. The performance kept my attention even when the book seemed to be dragging on. You could feel that the author was invested and liked the characters and setting (good thing, because it looks like this is the first book in a series). I enjoyed the whole cast of characters and seeing Jillian grow from the beginning to end. Daniel on the otherhand? Well, you'll have to read/listen to it to find out. ;)
The description of the book is what initially caught my eye. I liked the idea behind it. A ghost haunting the FMC to help her evolve into a stronger version of herself. It sounded cute.
Unfortunately I have so many issues with this book. The very first non-spoiler being the absolute length of this novel. It definitely felt like two books in one. If I actually enjoyed the book I might not of felt so negatively about it but this story drags so much. It’s over descriptive. I would find myself zoning out during moments for example, when the author was individually describing every pastry in a shop. So much description that felt unnecessary for story. It really felt like she had some word count she needed to reach.
The second non-spoiler is the constant Star Trek references. At first it was cute and endearing to see the FMC with a nerdy obsession. The references though became way to much that it was just obnoxious. The author was trying so hard to make her FMC unique and quirky that all it did was make her insufferable. I had no opinion about Star Trek before but now I can genuinely say I don’t like it. I might be being petty. If you’re a diehard Star Trek fan you might actually enjoy this aspect. It just became a nail on the coffin for how I feel about it when Jillian and her best friend started talking in Klingon.
The third non-spoiler is how every character in this book was absolutely insane. The only sane character in this book was Daniel’s sister. I was honestly rooting and agreeing with her. Jillian’s coworkers are another issue. My main issues with them were with Buck. He was all over the place with his personality. (Possible spoiler) Buck goes from being a guy who tries to essentially poison (maybe a little melodramatic on my end) Jillian to threatening to quit if Bernard fires her? His little threat made me cringe at bad character writing. If anything the author should have made Hayley say that.
The last non spoiler I’ll mention is Jillian herself and her reason behind why she can’t talk to men. I could have forgiven the insta love with Daniel, but her reason why she couldn’t talk to men was ridiculous. It would have made more sense if it was related to something actually romantic. But it just seemed so out there it had me audibly saying “Really?”.
Daniel’s sister was the only sane person in this book. I liked her.
I have quickly become a Sarah Ready fan. I was excited to delve into Ghosted and really enjoyed it. This book definitely had a clever premise. I had several theories about what I thought was happening when Jillian and Daniel initially meet. I'm pleased to say that none of my theories were correct and I liked how the author handled this "situation." Jillian is columnist for relationship advice and stories. Yet, she struggles to speak to men directly and it's made it more than challenging for her to meet men and almost impossible to have a relationship. So, when she meets Daniel and can actually talk to him, she's stunned. It's totally not her norm. However, things can't be that easy because she and Daniel aren't on the same page, so to speak. I enjoyed Jillian and Daniel's characters and the way the author chose to develop them. I also thought this storyline was a clever premise and it kept me interested for the most part.
My only down side was that the story felt a bit longer to me than was needed. I think a few things could have been handled more concisely. I really did like the story and the author's writing but felt it was just too long which left me feeling a little disinterested in places. I'd much rather have a shorter book that keeps me completely hooked. It's definitely a fine line deciding what part of the story isn't needed - I do get that. But I felt that something needed to be tightened up with the plot. Overall though, an enjoyable book with well developed characters.
AUDIOBOOK: The narration for this book was done well and kept me entertained. In the places where the story felt slow to me, I did find that my mind could drift off but for the most part that didn't happen. 4 stars
Thank you to NetGalley for early copies of both the ebook and audiobook. I voluntarily chose to read/listen to them and write a review and the opinions contained within are my own.
Can I say I adored this book, but still not give it 5 stars? The reason is it was SO unreasonably LOOOONG. I could tell the author really loved writing this book and she had so many great ideas. It was sort of original, except it had very strong 2005 Just Like Heaven vibes (You know, the movie with Reese and Mark), but spoiler, it does have a slightly different and better plot. I guess it did take as long as it needed to take to build everything up, but I could have lived without the second epilogue. (Like who cares about his point of view at that point?) But also how is this the first book in the series? This book could have been 3 books. It will be interesting to see what the next book is about. This book in a nutshell was a captivating paranormal love story by Sarah Ready, featuring Jillian, a dating and love columnist, struggling with dating and men. She finds solace in a charming ghost named Daniel, who helps her find love and overcome her mistrust of men. However, they soon discover that Daniel is a ghost and they cannot be together. As they try to make sense of their relationship, they must confront their past and the possibility of Daniel's eternal absence.
